This place cops a bad rap for the appallingly rude staff - and this true. The little old lady is the nicest, but the two younger ladies often have a bit of attitude. But you can be like that when your cakes are this great! And in saying that as much as I dislike rude staff, I will continue going here because they're good.

Gladesville's Sunny Hot Bread is a stayer and with good reason: not only does it bake good breads including pre-packaged sandwich loaves and the basic cakes, pastries and pies and pasties, there also is a Vietnamese bahn mi bar. The bahn mi bar is the only one in a good radius of Gladesville. The end product may not be up there with the likes of those that specialise in this wonderful lunch roll in the Vietnamese enclaves of Marrickville and Cabramatta but it is still good and a great alternative to one of their typical Aussie meat pies.

No one's throwing around the word 'pâtisserie' here. It's what you see on the sign - HOT BREAD. This place is busy on the weekend, but the service is quick. The best thing you can do on the weekend is come in early on Saturday or Sunday and buy a big bunch of their sandwich rolls - they'll still be hot. Of course you can get all your other bread-related products (loafs, etc), but I go for the rolls every time. My favourites are the hot chicken rolls (made on the spot, Vietnamese style) and the vanilla slice (with passion-fruit icing). The lamingtons are quite respectable too.
