To my surprise the closest laundrette happened to be a short walk away, it's crazy how you don't notice something until you actually need it. Anyway, I called up and was able to get my table cloths booked in for a dry clean. The whole process was really simple, walked in, told the lady behind the counter that I needed them clean and then paid. Bish, bash, bosh - job done! Price wise it was really reasonable and they will be rest to collect within 24 hours so if you are in desperate need to get something cleaned, go here!

Luckily here you can drive by, park outside, run in, run out and you're done. Ok it takes a couple of days, and be careful if you have a work-shirt emergency, as that can take up to four days, but they save you ruining that fancy chenille. They won't break the bank either, but be warned though, the ladies in here are so nice you may end up chatting longer than the transaction actually took. ;-)

In fact, I seem to co-ordinate dry cleaning for the whole family. How did that happen? So when I have school blazers, suits or curtains to be dry cleaned, it's off to Chevron for me. I'm a little old fashioned as I like good customer service and some polite conversation when I'm in shops etc. Not too much, there's a fine line between chit chat and inappropriate levels of familiarity. The guys in Chevron get it just right. Polite and friendly but not too much detail about their personal lives. Dry cleaning is always done on time and done well. Don't you just hate it when your clothes come back still stained AND they expect you to pay? Chevron also offers another service which I get bizarrely excited about - you can hire a carpet shampooer which is like a giant hoover which washes your carpets. I take great delight in how dirty the water is when I've done a carpet. Oh, the penny has just dropped that that means my carpet was very dirty. I blame the dog, even though we haven't got one. The helpful man who works in Chevron always insists on putting the shampooer in the car for me which is a nice touch and turns a blind eye when I return it not properly cleaned out. Thanks for that, I really do appreciate it.

I left a wool sweater with a white fabric collar and a (very expensive) designer jersey top in for cleaning a little over a week ago. Collected them a couple of days ago. They were folded over a hanger inside the bag, and no note of any problems was visible, but I tried to check that they were ok before paying, as I normally do. The collar on the sweater still looked grubby and I pointed this out to the lady behind the counter. She said, in a very offhanded sort of way, that she had nothing to do with the cleaning and that I could leave it to be redone if I wanted. I didn't, as I wanted to wear it that evening, but she still charged me the full price. No discount. No apology. Worse, when I got home and took the two items out of the bag, I was horrified to find that the jersey top was about half the size it had been before cleaning! I had only worn it a couple of times, and it was a favourite. So sad! There was no note inside the bag, either. I am absolutely distressed to have been let down in such a way by a business that I had previously held in high regard.

Take them any kind of alteration and they'll have it done in a day or two and done really well. They can do pretty much anything and will take your garments from you either already pinned or will take you into the chainging room and pin you into your dress or whatever to make sure that the measurements are exactly right. I had a formal dress altered in this way and it turned out perfect - fitted exactly and the stitching was billiant. They have also done a small job for me free of charge which I thought was fab. I'd already been told about the merits of the Zip Yard by another friend so the company should congratulate themselves on how well they are going down with all and sundry, mostly women who need this sort of service. All I can do here is join the chorus of previous recommendations. The job I required was new zip to be put into a skirt that I'd bought with a broken one for £3.00 in a New Look sale. True to their word, the Zip Yard had the skirt ready for me on the day they said they would. It cost £7.00, so I ended up getting a nice skirt for £10.00 in the end. Good result.

But, nonetheless, it'll take care of your photo needs. They offer a number of photo services, including developing and printing of digital photos. They also house a photography studio if you ever need to get that family photo made. You can also print your own photos at the kiosks inside the store. One of the coolest things I noticed about is that they do a photo restoration service. When I visited, right on the front door they had a huge restored image from the Harland & Wolff shipyard in the 1930s. It was a snap shot of the riveting crew from 1930 and looked like a recent photo. Except that it was in black and white. And everyone was wearing a cap in the picture (I mean, everyone. It must have been part of the uniform)..

I was a little nervous heading in, not sure whether my artwork was high res enough, or even if they'd do such a small job. No need to worry, the service was top class. From the cheery receptionist to the very kind designer who took me into the studio to check the artwork and see what I wanted, everything was flawless. They were even so quick I had a call from them before I'd even got home telling me my posters were done. The lovely lady even gave me a diary when I went to collect my prints (which looked brilliant). Sad as it sounds, I loved the experience so much I'm now hunting out other things I need printed!

Print companies that I have used in the past don't want to know about this sort of turnaround but this company made it all too easy (Michael's the man!) and only charged me £46 into the bargain. The quality of the print was also exceptional. No worries with this crowd, I'll definitely use them again.
