I'm far from an expert on jewelry, and most of my experiences have been relegated to your typical name-brand jewelers you'd find in a mall or convenience store. After some careful thought and deliberation, I decided to try my luck with a local jeweler in having an engagement ring specially made. I was not disappointed. The staff at McGivern was extremely polite and helpful, as I really just approached them with a couple of pictures and told them "Make this but different." The CAD design process was simple and seamless, giving the customer the ability to make whatever tweaks they desired after viewing the photos provided. Mike never failed to respond in a timely manner when prompted with questions, and was quick to provide information and photos immediately after any alterations were made to the product. The designers knocked it out of the park on the second draft with both the ring and its jacket. Pricing was exactly what I expected it to be. I came with my own diamond but had to purchase the accent stones. To some people "exactly what I expected" probably doesn't sound special, but when it comes to jewelry and pricing, anything that doesn't cause a heart attack is more than satisfactory in my mind. The first resizing is also free, but the ring fit perfectly and thus there was no need to take advantage. McGivern Diamonds is an unsuspecting little establishment tucked away on one of the roads adjacent to Louisiana Avenue, and I can say with certainty that I would never have thought to take a look if I hadn't seen the ratings online.
