McGaw Y has a variety of equipment to craft one's workout. Staff was helpful! All equipment was of good quality, available to use and allowed one to challenge one's personal best. Y Membership has value. It did not disappoint! Thank you!

I'm Thankful to be a YMCA member! Today, November 17, the McGaw YMCA is celebrating our 137th birthday! That's 137 years of serving the Evanston community. The McGaw YMCA has been promoting health and well-being to the community for 137 years today. I celebrated the 137th birthday of the McGaw Y by moving in group exercise. Thank you. I recommend that you come and see what the Y has to offer you if you work or reside or attend school in the area. If you do not don't worry because guess what? You can visit a YMCA in your community or neighboring community and see what they offer and get moving.

It may be a good fit for some, but not for me. Pros: variety of facilities/classes; mostly well maintained; most staff are friendly; a great info center about local events; diverse clientele Cons: unfriendly booking system which requires going through the front desk (tried three times but still could not get into a virtual class! Pls train the staff so they know how to operate their own system); pools are hard to book; some staff are unprofessional; some facilities have seen some wear and tear The last straw is how I was treated at the front desk. Unlike most gyms, McGaw requires members to personally speak to the front desk to be checked in. Although sometimes this "personal touch" can be charming, other times it just adds extra stress for one to spell out one's full name. The incident happened two months into my membership. I was getting known by most check-in staff so I could just spell out my last name followed by a read out of my first name. In fact, most staff told me I could just read out my name and they'd be able to identify me on their list. But one day, after spelling out my last name to a staff followed by a read out of my given name, he replied with a snarky "oh as if I know how to spell that!" Yes, I know it's a "foreign" name, but I don't think anyone deserves such unprofessional treatment. So bye, the Y, I have enough on my plate and I don't have the mental capacity to deal with snarky attitudes.

The members in the club tend to be conscientious about cleaning up after themselves, but primarily it's because of the attentiveness of the staff. They are on the ball.  I've seen nothing but good from all of the men and people who work there. Today the great people at the desk were Myah, and Myles, and the manager, Brandon.  For me, what makes the people who work at Blink great, is the collective positive energy, the upbeat interactions, the knowledge they all express by their consistency in having answers to questions.  And when they don't have an answer, they'll research it for you. And they will HUNT YOU DOWN to get that information to you. I love that. Always hello. Always goodbye. Always a smile.  Part of that is because these are really nice, polite people with good work ethic.  But I have to believe another reason is they have a good manager coaching them a little. I've worked in and worked out at a LOT of health clubs and gyms, and I've interacted with a lot of staff and managers, and Brandon is one of the best managers I've seen. He's very approachable, and he shows up for work. He's not a manager who will "be in later, or maybe day after tomorrow." It's rare that I've gone to the club and Brandon wasn't there, and I go five days a week (I'm tired all over and everything hurts). And when he's there you know it, because he's at the front desk, not in the manager's office. And he's at the desk working, because he's also a staff member. And when he steps away, he's performing some of that constant maintenance I mentioned; wiping down, stacking weights, restocking sanitizer stations. Blink has sanitizer stations with wipes and spray. They're all over the gym, and there are a lot of them, and they're always reliably full.  I can't think of any cons for me at this club. Reasonably priced. Great gym. Great staff, great manager, and I think you'd probably get the equivalent of my opinion from anyone you asked at Blink Evanston. Thanks to the entire team for providing this kind of fitness club. So I guess no one is cleaning the showers. I only use the handicap shower because it's the one that gets used the least but the other shower stalls are completely disgusting and smell really bad. I've also noticed a wet piece of toilet paper in the handicap stall that has been here since Wednesday, it's Friday morning let's see if it's still here on Monday. The staff says hi and bye in particular Derwin is very friendly so there's a reason to give blink fitness in Evanston one star and a second star because equipment is usually all in good working condition.

Jordan, Lauren Craig and Daphne are awesome!! They spent all winter helping me with my cycling skills. They have about 20 bike trainers inside plus 3 treadmills, spin bikes and rowers. They also offer strength and agility classes. You can store your bike there during the winter months so you don't have to schlep your bike in your car on the days you want to ride. They work with training peaks so every ride you do is recorded with heart rate, calories, speed and distance. It really helps me analyze where I need to improve. They also have separate fun free events throughout the year. Girls movie night (ride while watching the chick flick of your choice) beer and bikes (ride while chugging a beer and eating snacks). These are just fun ways to break up indoor cycling rides. The fees are reasonable for unlimited rides. They also offer triathlon performance packages so you can incorporate swim bike and run with them. If you're interested in taking your training to the next level try precision multi sport.

Personalized attention, and a variety of options. Adult and youth programs. Indoor and weather permitting outdoor training too! This is great for triathletes of all levels; from the hesitant not sure I want to even try to the Kona qualifying elites. Yet NOT INTIMIDATING! I was amazed, as I have experienced this before. Runners, swimmers, even the every day "non athlete" person just trying to be fit can find something here. I first came to know Precision Multisport through a winter triathlon training program I was a part of that utilized the facility for their Computrainer studio. Craig and JP have helped me train for multiple events, as well as aid me with my return to sport training after a hiatus due to injury. The studio has moved since I started trading there, and expanded. They now offer more training options, class times, etc. BASE Fitness, TRX, other training classes, a wide range of Computrainer classes, and individual trainers...all highly recommended. I truly have learned so much during my training here. The coaches are attentive, knowledgeable, and put up with me! I am not high maintenance, just hard on myself. When I go to Precision Multisport...I do not feel like I have to BE the best, I just am encouraged to TRY my best; and everyone has off days, and are well supported here. The experience, and the way the coaches are with clients, is HUGE! I don't feel like I am a part of a cookie cutter workout. Thank you PM! They often have special events and other fun things. They also put on a few of the best races in Chicagoland! I travel in from the city even to train!

I had previously been working out (rather intermittently) at the park district gym near my home. But needing guidance I sought out D21 fitness center because it was referred to me by a college friend who has been going there for years. Stephanie has been my trainer for a year and she is awesome!!! She walks the walk. Her degree is in Athletic training so she is extremely knowledgeable about fitness health. She is a runner (everyday she runs with a group rain or shine, cold or wet), but she is not a snob about it, nor is she judgemental. She meets you where you are, sets mutual goals for you, and helps you implement them. She keeps meticulous record of your workouts, and changes it up regularly to keep it interesting. You have the feeling that you are her only client! After an injury forced me to see a physical therapist she offered to confer with the therapist on how my exercises could be modified to prevent further injury. Before my vacation in February she emailed me a complete workout (with YouTube tutorials on how to do it right) so that I could continue my workouts in the resort's gym in the week that I wouldn't be there. Before giving you an exercise to do, Stephanie always explains its purpose, and she always demonstrates first (even if you've done it before) showing you both the right way AND the wrong way to do it. Because I only meet with her once a week, I would mimic what I did with her at home in another day of the week. And while I don't have a lot of the equipment at home, she showed me ways to compensate for that. She also let's me pick the workout music I like (I have a fondness for the 80s!) Stephanie makes working out fun! She laughs, and cajoles, but she is about the business of the workouts. She is very professional. She watches my moves, corrects when I'm doing something incorrectly, high fives me when I'm nailing it, and redirects. If I tell her I was sore the next day, she'll message me the day after that to see how I'm doing. If one day I'm not feeling especially talkative when I'm there, she picks up on that and our workouts are largely silent (except for counting my reps, and, yes, Cyndi Lauper in the background). My core is a lot stronger today, than when I first met Stephanie. I would recommend her to anyone who is interested in improving their fitness health. About D21. The gym is small, but has everything you could possibly need for a thorough and great workout. The sessions are private, though there might be the rare occasion where another client might be finishing up a session. Still it's enough room. There is a washroom, but unfortunately not a shower. There are also clean towels and filtered water so no need to bring. Great location too (right up the street from the Lucky Platter for a great post workout breakfast) and a Starbucks (with outside seating in warmer months)!!! Also plenty of street parking AND an adjacent parking lot. This gym seems to serve every age, and every body type from what I have observed. And the owner is pretty awesome too! The trainers all seem very happy. That must be a reflection on him.
