Approaching our family from behind telling us "you can't be in here you need to leave" with her breath smelling like cigarettes. Why because we carefully pushed around our wagon, not touching a single thing. Being as respectful as possible. We would never come in to Try to harm or ruin anything. Our intentions Were to purchase artwork for our new home. If you can't afford to store the pottery pieces respectfully without laying them all over a dirty carpet then you wouldn't have to be harassing families coming in to spend money. The lady in the photo needs to spend the rest of her life in a 2.4 star nursing home.

I love this little local art studio!…read more I've NEVER done one of those "Wine and Paint" nights you see all over Groupon, ClassPass, etc...but I'm glad my first time was here. Kaitlyn is adorable and the best teacher. I have never been very good at art even though I loved to TRY as a child. I recall getting made fun of for my stick figure drawings. But somehow this lovely lady was able to guide me to create something that looks pretty arty! We were part of a smaller class of about 4 and the vibes are so cool in this place. There are skylight windows in the ceiling; I was able to look straight up at the moon! It smells amazing in the studio as well the minute you walk in, like a cool blend of incenses. The ceilings are high so it feels very spacious, artfully decorated, she's also got a silks rope in there which is a pretty sweet touch, and THERE'S EVEN A STUDIO HAMSTER YA'LL, who now has a girlfriend companion (honestly, I probably spent more time playing with the hamster than painting lol). The back door of the studio leads to an awesome little courtyard to get to the bathroom and there was some pretty heavenly-smelling hand soap in the women's bathroom when I visited. If I learned one specific thing from her class it's to "PAINT YOUR EDGES!" of the canvas. Get used to hearing that if you go to one of her classes. :P She also has lots of nifty studio swag. *Bonus: It's right next door to the very unique and awesome Aberrant Moon bookstore, so make sure to stop by there as well!

Stanton, who was killed in a skirmish with the Apaches, Fort Stanton was built in 1855 by soldiers of the 1st Dragoon and the 3rd and 8th Infantry Regiments to serve as a base of operations against the Mescalero Apache Indians. It served as a military fortification through 1896. Built of local stone, the sturdy 1855 buildings have lasted to this day. The Fort was named for Captain Henry W. Stanton, killed fighting the Apaches in 1855 near present day Mayhill. Troops marched out from the Fort to search for and fight the Mescalero Indians during numerous campaigns from 1855 until the 1880's. One of the best preserved forts in America from that Era. Then passed by the cemetery and up to Mt. Serra Blanca reaching 10,090 ft. Beautiful scenery. Worth the trip!

There are a lot of cool little shops in Ruidoso. I could spend a lot of time reviewing each one…read more But I chose to review the one that ranked the highest on the coolness scale. During our walking tour of the downtown area my eye caught this place. So we had to explore. It's a small store stuffed floor to rafter in unique and odd items. Bear traps, stuffed wall mounted bear, modern "antique" cap & ball or black powder firearms. Add knives, Indian dream catchers, chain saw carvings, and a slew of other oddities and you have the makings of a great shop. All this with minimal souvenirs that are available at other local shops. This is a place we could have spent a lot more time exploring. We've be making a trip back here soon

So get in there and check out the goods and find yourself a unique souvenir from a place that probably no one else that you know has ever been. And don't forget to visit the petroglyph site down the way behind the place. Take a minute and do it. How often do you get to see a petroglyph? Ancient, historic graffiti that tells the tales of way back when....yes...go and see that. Worth it. Take some pics. Don't touch the petroglyphs. Anyway, this is exactly the kind of place that you hope to stumble upon when you take off into the middle of nowhere and so if you're here, you've stumbled upon it. Congratulations. I think Smokey is one of the few real heroes out there, who have made their way into pop culture. I also think that everyone has had a Smokey the bear t-shirt at some point in their life, maybe a hat? Coming here, I learned about the origin of fire towers and controlled fires. There is reference to firefighters and firefighting, so this may also pass as a fire fighter museum. But the real reason I came here was to admire and look at the memorabilia of Smokey the bear. I really enjoyed seeing all the toys and items collected by the museum. I am really happy to have made it here.
