A real Judo/TKD School, with tradition and years of knowledge passed down through Grandmaster Kim,…read moreA true Judo icon and mentor. I had the privilege and honor of being one of his students growing up through middle school and into highschool.. now at 38, I want to achieve black belt rank. They are the best.

They have class as a group but do get one on one attention especially when noticed as needing more individualized help with new moves or new student. The belt promotion is based on when the staff feel they are ready to move up. New belts $60, uniforms are around $40 I believe (only need new uniforms when grow out). My son is 8 (almost 9) and is a blue belt. He goes to two classes a week 6-7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. The staff are really great and know each kid by name, super helpful. The older kids/black belts help teach the younger. It is a family owned business here for years probably decades, they also have a North location run by the grandmaster's son. His grandsons are the primary instructors right now at this one. I got into it for the self discipline, self defense and elder respect it encourages. My son really likes it. It's year round. Masks used at all times right now. There are many poomsae (movements exercised as if there is an imaginary opponent) to learn and with each belt, one must demonstrate the number of these required to move up. They also spar at times and many exercise drills as a group. They do offer a free class to try out before joining. You can do taekwondo and judo, think the monthly rate for both is $150/mo.

Over the time we were there, Mr. and Mrs. Master Norris were absolutely wonderful. They are consistent and professional while also being a lot of fun. My son's self confidence increased as he mastered the skills required to obtain each belt. They also emphasize being a good person with strong values. It was all around a very welcoming and positive experience for all of us!

The schools are fortunate to have hands-on involvement from 9th degree Grandmaster Kong in the curriculum and at testing. Students are taught respect and self-control as well as physical activity. I've been attending for five years total, and my kids for two. There are many families at the school, and it's a great activity to do together. In response to the other reviewer - this is my perspective as a student and parent: There are tests every 2 months for color belts and 6 months for black belts. There are intermediate steps between belts (stripes or patches) so students don't advance a full belt level each time. The frequency of testing helps to keep younger students motivated with a consistent progression. It's true that students do not often fail testing, but that is because they are not even allowed to attend a test until they have proven themselves ready for the next level. That said, belts must be earned and students can fail if they do not prepare. The testing fees and schedule are comparable to other martial arts schools, in my experience. Twice a year, Young Brothers holds an inter-school tournament to benefit charity. Its students have consistently performed well at both the regional US Open in West Virginia and the national US Open in Las Vegas. This school is a solid, traditional Tae Kwon Do experience.
