This law firm charged me 6700 and only produced one letter. Iam a paralegal in California and they charged a ridiculous amount for emails and even charged 10% for paper and stamps when everything has been emailed. They will rob you. I'm filing a complaint with the Nevada State board. read more

I'm giving my feedback for this firm as someone who felt very hopeless when it came to finding new representation. Unfortunately, had to let my other attorney go at another firm due to too many leaves of absence with out notice or short notice leaving me hanging multiple times and the paralegals lack of attention to detail even as simple as spelling errors. I grew frustrated and felt it was time to move on since I had been trying to get this resolved since last August 2024. Ironically I was referred to this firm by another attorney that could not take on my case due to it being out of their scope of practice, etc. I thought I wouldn't have to worry since getting referrals are generally better than rolling the dice on Google and yelp and hoping for a good fit for council. I was assigned to Summer, who is the reason I'm giving an extra star because she was empathetic and kind when listening to my situation during consultation. However, they were not straightforward with the billing, when I left consultation, she just said yes the retainer is $2000. But it wasn't that simple... Alternatively, I was are required to put down a retainer which is standard. BUT instead of just working off that and then rebilling once more funds are needed incase of added work, they make you put your retainer back at the same amount on the 16th of every month. I thought that was very strange as again I've only dealt with firms where you pay a retainer and they work off that or charge hourly. it made me uncomfortable knowing that every month I'd have to be replenishing money, even though there was plenty enough in there to do the small adjustments I needed to my prenup. I didn't care for the online web portal either. I was constantly getting notifications instead of just straight direct emails. I would get an email notification and then have to log into the portal and then read the correspondences. It was just an extra unnecessary step in my opinion. I saw other yelper's feedback. They didn't care for it either. So at least I wasn't the only one. Then I would say my biggest disappointment and frustration was that after going over exactly what I needed done in very specific details somehow all that was brushed aside and everything was changed. Not only the format, but the bullet points that I made that were very simple but not all were paid attention to. I was being told My other lawyers didn't know the law and felt that I was being Fear mongered a bit and even more confused. My biggest suspect of all this was just to be able to bill more money. They were making me actually feel more anxious and sick about my situation so I decided to pull the plug before the next billing cycle. I figured they only have worked on this for a few days. Literally it was 3 days of work and I'm not taking full 8 hours. I thought surely I'll get a good portion of amount back from what I had paid upfront. Boy was I wrong ! For just three days of very minuscule tasks I was billed over $1200 which I don't find to be reasonable. They itemize it but it's still a bit vague...a phone call costing $700 ? Just crazy. I would be more understanding if the work in return reflected such charges, but it didn't. But at least I got out before I went down the rabbit hole further. So again this is just my honest feedback so anyone who's in my position can take this into consideration. I would not recommend this firm for simple asks when it comes to pre-and post ups. read more

Highly disappointed in this firm is an understatement. From day 1, I should have just known and stood clear. Situation: Son's Dad Gives me 2 weeks notice in Nov 2020 that he is moving across the US and leaving my son. Ok great, but I needed an attorney to help me do paperwork, get child support and figure out travel arrangements as my son was 5. It didn't seem too hard of an issue. This Firm had excellent reviews and I decided to use them over my prior attorney who I paid thousands and knew my case from 2017 in my divorce. Bad Idea. The Firm essentially is very hands off and passive with everything. They give you their website which you are just expected to become very familiar with. The website has a login and will include your invoice, all of your prior divorce documents which they upload, any new documents that pertain to litigation, an area to upload things, and drafts. You can also comment on the items, but don't even expect a response to your comments, so what is really the point. I sent several comments on documents and never even got a response or if I did it was late and got an excuse for it. I had opposing documents come in that were never went over with me other than an email notification that I got a document. Sometimes, I would get the notices and would just ignore them as I thought it was a random thing in their system. Sometimes it was maybe an important document such as a counter to child support that you would expect the attorney to CALL and go over. Nope. My court date, my attorney was late and said she had trouble notifying the court she was going to be late. She did not seem prepared and then insulted plaintiff attorney by saying he was in "Bad Faith" by his offer essentially saying he didn't know what he was doing, when he has been in law over 25 years. Not getting me temporarily child support for months and letting the case getting extended and extended. Reviewing their invoice, I am charged $20 for reading emails and ridiculous things. I was at the point where I was going to file a bar complaint and still may. The attorney Samantha, after our court case I told her she needed to get co-counsel from someone at the firm to help with my case as it should be a simple case. Nothing. I then was so over it, I fired her and then soon I got notice she was leaving the company. I was then just assigned randomly to another attorney without even asking me who I would want to be assigned to. And then weeks to get a motion to withdraw approved. I represented myself on our next court date and even filed exhibits myself and probably saved myself thousands rather than use this firm. And still, NO CHILD SUPPORT 9 months later. Thank-God I have a job and am able to provide for my child. I am currently negotiating myself with Dad's attorney and already did mediation to resolve the custody items. Would not recommend this office at all. I had high hopes only to be very disappointed by the dis-organization, bad advice and lack of caring. Oh just to top it off, I call the office on the next court date I had to let them know I did not get a Blue Jeans link (the Virtual court link) on the day of court. So, I was a bit freaking out that I was going to miss my hearing. You would think they would be willing to give me some advice in regards on how to approach that to get the dumb link or what to do in that situation. When my divorce became imminent and began shopping for a good attorney, I asked some divorced friends to tell me about their attorneys but none were glowing recommendations. There were just ok. Every place I called and made appointments with I talked to paralegals NOT attorneys and all they did was simply take notes to pass on to the attorney. Clearly, I was just a number. No real connection and the they kept it on a tight timeline. Understandable I guess...if I'm filing for a patent or need a contract reviewed. But divorce is different. Especially in my case where the well-being of my children became complex. My free 30-minute consult was booked with Summer Squires and when we spoke it was VERY CLEAR that she cared about the situation and more importantly, being a mother herself, cared about my children's situation. The 30-minute consult went on for nearly an hour and would have gone longer because she cared. I was the one who had to cut the call because I had to get ready for work and really expected the call to only go the 30 minutes. I highly recommend SUMMER to anyone shopping for a divorce attorney. In the middle of the case I even had to ask her to withdraw because I was essentially dooped by the other party into thinking we were gonna settle amongst ourselves. Summer asked me if I was sure about it only out of concern and not salesmanship even though she was clearly aware that there was money to be made. That was never EVER her motivation! EMILY's LACK OF ability to do the basic job of an attorney in a probate matter cost me $100,000 in losses. Emily spent all of 3 hours the first year of my case working on it. I just finally settled it as I hired another attorney who ended up being paid $25,000 and he was able to issue subpoenas that apparently Emily didn't know how to do or wouldn't. The subpoenas combined with a deposition of the Executor lead to all the funds that had been held and retained from December 2012 to October 2020 had to be disgorged by the Executor. If EMILY would have done her job I would have gotten my monthly money and I would have got the $100k as RObert Graham had it in his trust account while she was my attorney and she did nothing. THe first year I hired her she billed me for all of 3 hours which is what she worked on the case. She waited and waited for Graham to settle it with her without her needing to do anything and when that didn't work she finally did something in 2014 and filed a Petition and then without even consulting me she withdrew it from the court and never sought to have a Judge provide oversight. SHE SUCKED and created a living nightmare for me for the last 6 years to straighten this matter out. She withdrew 3 months before Graham was arrested. Her lack of detail and attention is what allowed Graham to steal money without recompense. read more

Worst experience ever. EMILY's lack of care and NEGLIGENCE COST $100,000 in losses. My partner, Janelle Wheeler, hired Emily in her father's probate matter. Her behavior in the case suggested she didn't know this area of law or she was negligent. The father left 4 things: 1. 100k, a steam of income and the underlying real property interest, and a property in Goldfield Nevada. Janelle hired her because the Estate Attorney Robert Graham had cut off payment of the steam of income she'd been receiving and was trying to force her to sign away her rights to it in exchange for the Estate paying the 100k. Emily was hired Feb. 2013 and she spent 3 hours on the case through the end of December 2013. All the while the Executor had misappropriated the lease funds to herself in the amount of approx. 1400 a month. EMILY did filed a Petition once in Jan. 2014 and sought court oversight but after speaking with Robert Graham she withdrew the petition. Janelle gave her all the information she needed to actually do something about the fraud occurring BUT SHE DID NOTHING except ignore the case. A subpoena would have been good, when it was finally done by an attorney it clearly showed the fraud that had been occurring since Dec. 1, 2012. Robert Graham stole $300k from the father's probate estate while EMILY just waited. So Janelle never received the $100k cash devise and should have but for Emily's negligence. She may or may not treat your case with diligence. She may or not know what she is doing and if she doesn't she will make such a mess that it can take years to fix - 5 years exactly. Emily withdrew from this case 3 months before the Estate Attorney Robert Graham was arrested. Another attorney was hired after the dust settled and was able to get subpoenas issued to expose the fraud that Emily was a party to and happened under her nose , moreover, she really didn't attempt to do any thing of substance in the case. Poor reasoning skills were displayed in her strategy. See screen shots. The case was finally settled and the Estate had to turn over the steam of income from 2013 to the present (over $140k) so not all was stolen but for Emily's performance Janelle would have got the 100k as well because in 2013 when she was hired Robert Graham still had the money in his trust account. read more

I consider myself lucky to have had McFarling Law Group/Michael Burton as my attorneys throughout my appeal process, in what can labeled as one of the most complex custody cases. My divorce/custody case has been very lengthy with a few former attorneys that disappointed me and at times were incompetent to defend my case.
