This morning I took my 2008 Nissan Versa into the Nissan dealership in Brandon for an oil change…read moreand because it was making a very loud noise/rattling. I normally don't get my oil changed at a dealership, but because of the noise I thought it would be a good idea to take it there plus it's very close by. Now, when I got there they were great. They listened to me and I explained that my car sounded more like my husband's sports car with an aftermarket exhaust on it - not the way my car should sound - and so I thought it was likely an issue with the muffler. I was thinking that maybe I'd hit a bump on a road and popped something loose. I dropped my car off and did a little research on issues with my make and model. Apparently the metal used for the exhaust and muffler has a tendency to rust over (which is an issue in and of itself) and people have had to get them replaced sooner rather than later. People were saying that it was generally a $400-$500 fix, so I was bracing myself for the worst. About five hours later I got a phone call saying that, yes, my exhaust was in fact rusted and broken and that it would be $2,200 to fix it. Now, this is about 25% of the value of my car so naturally I freaked out. Fortunately my husband is fairly handy with cars and had actually changed out his own exhaust on his car when he got it, but since we live in an apartment complex it's been more difficult for him to do auto work. He said that he thought he could get the complete system for under $400 and replace it himself. He ended up calling Huff Muffler in Brandon and talking to the guy there. He explained it as best he could not having seen anything more than the photos that Nissan took and emailed to me so that I could send them to him at work. He told my husband to bring it in and that it was likely going to be about $100, but at most $250 to repair the exhaust. I took it in and showed them the pictures. They said it would be a $40 fix and would take them less than 30 minutes to fix. Nissan wanted to replace the entire system when only one part needed to be repaired. My car sounds perfect again. They do all kinds of repairs and maintenance including oil changes and what not. They are family owned and operated and they are AWESOME. I highly, highly recommend them. No a/c- defogger-blower no air flow, also no front or rear working wipers and the power mirrors stopped working. AAA came to my residence and Mike ran diagnostic testing while working on my driveway floor. After removing trim panels and checking every fuse box,and switch inside and outside of the car, he found the problem and ordered the part. Once the part was received it was installed and everything was reassembled. While there he also changed my oil and filter. The repair cost was reasonable compared to the labor time it took to find and resolve the problem, remove all the needed trim panels and reassemble all the parts in a very professional manner. AAA is now my go to Auto repair service center

Called him to come do what I thought was a simple battery swap, it turned out to be a little more problematic than that (typical Chrysler) but Mike kept me informed every step of the way and didn't just throw parts at the problem to see if that worked he took his time to get to the root of the problem on our Jeep Grand Cherokee, the best part is he does this all from where ever you are so I was able to keep working while he worked on our Jeep. Way cheaper than going to any dealer and such a better value as you get to talk to the mechanic working on your car so you stay informed every step of the way you aren't just guessing if they are working on it they are working on it. If you are in the need of a mechanic I highly recommend giving him a call. you will not find a better more honest mechanic. I wish I could give him more than 5 stars.

Then AAA dropped it off to Christian Brothers in Valrico, Florida. They tested it and said it needed a new Starter Switch and new Alternator and they charged $2093. Then they said the radiator was leaking and needed to be replaced for $1300. So I drove it to the Auto Clinic of Brandon who told us they get so many people who have had similar problems with the "Christian Brothers". Auto Clinic of Brandon said that the "Christian Brothers" CHARGE HIGHER PRICES THAN A DEALERSHIP!!! Plus, who knows if I really needed as many repairs to fix the electric as they say I needed. Maybe it was just the electric switch and I didn't need a new alternator. I trust Auto Clinic of Brandon. They are the most honest repair shop in town! SO DON'T BELIEVE THE OTHER FIVE STAR RATINGS, THEY MAY BE FALSE.
