This funeral service did a bad job and when I let them know, all they said was "sorry". My Mom had…read morenoticeable dark spots on her face that were not there when she died. Her eyelids looks like they were stretched wide and then glued shut. Her mouth was stretched wider than I have ever seen it, lips were very thin and also glued shut. She did not look like she was sleeping, she looked very scary. The funeral was on Saturday so people could come without taking time off work, but the funeral personnel was "hurrying" everyone up, through-out the service and after, so the funeral company employees could leave as soon as possible even though an extra fee was paid to hold the funeral on a saturday. Quite clearly my Mom's funeral was just a job to be done and to get the money we paid them - enough to buy a car. No care was shown. Would NOT recommend.

Burks to pre-arrange funeral plans for our father whom was in Hospice and our mother whom was going through radiation and chemo treatments. T was very professional in explaining the aspects of the planning intracies and straight forward on the extravagances and rational necessities to help us come to logical decisions for our loved ones. The pre-arragement meeting was very informative for 1st time planners , non stressful and pleasant; due to no emotions being involved to ramp up pressure, both parents were still alive at this time. When Dad passed in September of 2018, J F Bell Funeral Home was the second call I received on that morning of his passing; Hospice was the 1st. T informed me that they would pick up Dad's remains within the hour, which they fulfilled. For the intial viewing by the family, Dad was looking very nice; clean shaven, nails clean and trimmed and a fresh haircut. Dad was presented very nicely at his Home going service with military honors. Eight months later in May of 2019 our mother went home to be with the Lord. Upon me notifying Bell of Mom's passing; I was assured by T that mom's remains would be picked up within the next hour and a half although she was in another state , that was fulfilled. At the familiy's 1st viewing of our mother, we were in awe of the way she looked. The work that Bell did on her nails, make up and the restoring of her facial likeness was impeccable. At the Home going service, Mom was dressed in a pink suit, Director Burks staff members Edward Jackson and John Booker wore pink necties to honor Mom and show support for her family. We sincerely appreciate the professionalism and compassion exhbited during our two most difficult experiences in our lives. Your business has survived since the early 1900s, you can not be in this profession for that long unless you have met the desires of your clients. God Bless H W

A small national cemetery with very much a community feel, Staunton National Cemetery holds some…read more870 interments, beginning with the Civil War and encompassing WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam and the more recent campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan. I came here on a recent weekend as a volunteer for the national Wreaths Across America event and ceremony, and thoroughly enjoyed the community vibe that was different from the feel of Arlington National Cemetery. There's no on-site parking, so the best bet is the parking lot at Martin's Food at 1015 Richmond Ave, and it should be a short walk from the parking lot to the cemetery. There a restroom in the stone building near the entrance, and a display with a blurb on a piece of history of the cemetery.

Probably one of the smallest military cemeteries I've been in, at a little over an acre, the…read moreStaunton Cemetery is no less solemn. Right on the main road, with a garden and nursery supply store on one side, homes in the back, and ironically, a military recruiter across the side street, it seems like an odd location. In looking at the surrounding area, it was probably an isolated spot at one time as none of the surrounding buildings, except for the one on the property, appear to predate the 20th century. It's old, with remains dating back to the Civil War re-interned from a nearby city cemetery of that same era. There are some recent burials as well, surprisingly, from the late 2000s. There are a lot of unknown soldiers here (500+) and at least one Buffalo soldier. And on this Memorial Day weekend, each was remembered with the flag marker. As with all national cemeteries, it's beautifully maintained. It's easy to overlook in the hustle of the nearby businesses and that's a shame. There's a sense of history here that shouldn't be lost.

This company was brought to us by HomeVestors by no request from us. They walked into my mom's house with a pamphlet that assured us that the consultation would be free. We signed paperwork that agreed to services once a CMP was agreed on. We never received a CMP. This agency works hand in hand with realtors and assisted living facilities. Based on our experience, there were financial and referral relationships involving these parties that raised serious concerns about the recommendations being made for my mother. When my mother's wishes and her physician's assessment did not support the recommendations being made, they attended doctors appointments, challenged the PCP, and then wrote wellbeing reports that included statements about the PCP's patient population, including references to uninsured, Medicaid-level and Hispanic patients. The scariest part of this agency is that they have a licensed fiduciary who within 2 weeks ran up an invoice of "billable services" that surpassed her monthly income. When asked early on as to what constituted as a billable service (since they never provided me with a CMP) they avoided the question. Upon receiving the invoice, I found that the initial "free consultation" was billed at almost $400. I'm attaching a picture to show the end of the invoice. The last email communication on September 3rd was a short 4 email thread with me declining an impromptu meeting they tried to set up. I was charged two separate charges of $187.50 (because Kate and Tracy were both on the email thread). If I had allowed the meeting, it would have been even more expensive. They can decide they are going to get $400 (or more!) per day and not give you an option to authorize any of it. Please check the other reviews you can find out yourself. You will find that their only reviews come from real estate agents. Do yourself a favor and run from this company. UPDATE: My concerns were not simply about "unexpected costs." I raised questions about what constituted a billable service before receiving the invoice and did not receive a clear answer. No Care Management Plan was ever provided or agreed upon, yet I was subsequently billed thousands of dollars. There were also concerns regarding decisions and recommendations involving my mother's care and living arrangements that were inconsistent with her expressed wishes and the recommendations of her physician. I understand the decision not to discuss the matter publicly. However, describing these concerns as "characterizations" does not address the underlying contracts, invoices, and written communications on which my review is based. I stand by my review.
