Visiting McD's in a different country is always entertaining. This was no different as they had a huge burger called "Der M" with my name on it.
I was hungry after walking around all day, but "Der M" defeated me. Apparently, it is available in Germany, Austria and nearby countries and promoted with the tagline that it's so big and heavy you need two hands to eat it, so I don't feel SO bad.
What is it?? Two thick, juicy 100% beef patties on an extra-large, fluffy bun topped with a mix of sesame and poppy seeds with melted white cheese, crispy roasted onions, fresh white onions, tangy pickles, and shredded iceberg lettuce. The sauce is a creamy savory sauce that blends sweetness, acidity, and a light mustard flavor that reminded me of thousand island but more sharp than rich.
I had fries and an extra side of... gurken (which I misread on the order screen as the "gherkin" that I grew up with as small pickled cucumbers. In this case, it was two small (hot dog sized), un-pickled gurke (I learned that's the German word for "cucumber" and adding the "n" makes it plural). Ah, learning. They were fresh and crunchy but needed some salt, IMO.
Order at the machine and find a table. Restrooms are in the lower level (requires payment that I believe can be applied to your order via machinations involving a receipt from the WC gating machine) read more
