Admittedly, I didn't read enough reviews to know you order at the counter and then sit down and they bring your food. It took us a few moments to determine what we'd order. The kids got Kids Bowls, both with lamb. One had rice and the other had the fries. My husband ordered the Big Bowl with lamb. I ordered the salmon. It was a warm evening, but windy. Our kids wanted to sit outside on the patio. The patio has quite a bit of seating. Only low tables were available which would normally be fine. But they seemed to get all the wind. We toughed it out but it did get a little chilly. The food was fresh and delicious. I was impressed with the amount of food for the money. It was healthy food too. The veggies were grilled perfectly. My salmon was moist and had great flavor. I was also impressed with the combination of the tomatoes and onions. The kids and my husband enjoyed their dishes too. The pita bread was soft and had good flavor. We debated coming back for the next meal too. Wish we had one where we live.

The person taking orders was unfriendly, made us feel like we were asking obvious questions, and wasn't very efficient. It definitely takes away from what is otherwise an excellent dining experience. Despite that, I still highly recommend this place. If you're looking for authentic Mexican tacos, this is one of the best spots in town.

What I received was a #2 dinner, with a taco and enchilada. The taco was inedible and probably the worst taco I've ever had in Wichita. The meat was burnt, desiccated, and impossible to chew. The corn shell was over-fried. The restaurant offers a self-service salsa bar with to-go cups. Three of the four salsas are "free" for carry-out, but for some reason, the 4th salsa, a "guacamole salsa" is 25 cents a cup for carry out, but free for dine-in. This was not disclosed at time of payment, but the woman behind the counter yelled at my daughter for taking ONE cup of this guacamole salsa. Because she had no spare change on her, she asked if she could pay with her card, and was told "no, but next time, make sure you pay for it!" (Not that there will EVER be a next time.) The restaurant also doesn't allow water cups, you have to buy a soft-drink for a water cup. AND in a restaurant with a 130 customer capacity, they have NO bathrooms available. Way to make your customers feel valued and comfortable. If you treat your customers like dirt and yell at them, you're not going to get much repeat business in a town that has about 100 nearby taco stands. Rene's is now on my "never return ever" list.
