Giraffe is quite a small brand in the UK, yet it was owned by our largest supermarket - Tesco, which is quite an interesting and weird fact which not a lot of people know up until June 2016 when Tesco actually sold the business too. The company also has four international locations, with one in Dubai and the rest in Dublin This was my first time visiting a Giraffe location since the sell-off to Boparan Holdings and since the takeover, this is the only branch in Manchester now other than at the Airport, with the Spinningfields branch closer to Manchester city centre being shut down. I ask about the gluten free selection, the members of staff seemed aware of it and passed me a tablet, but honestly I wish they hadn't, the selection was so bad I had to walk out straight away, as it basically was just a few sides or a salad, there was nothing else I could eat. Surely there can be no pride in that? The store did look quite nice from the outside, it is located in the Orient with a large amount of eateries and sadly doesn't do enough to compete, even as you go further into the restaurant, it lacks that good feel to it, so I had to walk out, hungry, to find somewhere else to eat which due to the poor vibe and gluten free selection means this place deserves a single one star.

I was still perplexed as to why a micropub and bottle shop in suburban Urmston chose it as their moniker, but I suppose it's memorable. Anyway, I digress. Though it looks fairly compact from the outside, when you step through the door you find it actually stretches back quite far, with a 'drinking parlour' towards the back behind the bar (which has a small number of pumps serving cask ale and cider). They also have perry, wine, Prosecco, whisky, small-batch gin and old-fashioned soft drinks made by independent producers. When I asked the friendly proprietor he mentioned that they also do quiz nights, tastings, DJ sessions and Bring Your Own Vinyl nights. To the side, they have a decent selection of American, European and local bottled beers on the shelves to take away. Some are fridge-chilled and ready for drinking. This place is only four miles from my home in Sale; if it was within easy walking distance I'd be in here far too frequently.

I came here while looking to find something to eat in the Trafford Centre, and I asked a server before I sat down on their gluten free selections, she told me they didn't have a menu or allergy guide, just a tablet, however she didn't seem like she could be bothered getting that out, as she made me get it up on my phone first, she didn't offer any free wi-fi so I was already using my data, my money just to bring up the menu which is pretty disgusting, in a way it felt like they didn't want my custom. Eventually as the menu was taking far too long to load, she finally got out a tablet but once again I was upset with such a small gluten free selection, mainly consisting of a few sides and salads, that was about it, as I recall there was only one main course which was gluten free, which was frankly terrible and it felt like they were trying to put off gluten free customers, not just for the poor range, poor attitudes of the staff not being bothered to get a tablet with no tangible printed off allergen guide, but the dreaded disclaimer. I had to sign something before viewing the menu to say that it wasn't this restaurants fault if I did get ill or there was cross-contamination, most places don't seem to offer a 100% gluten free environment, but this place took it to far. I decided to walk out without ordering, with high prices, poor gluten free selection and the handling of the entire situation and the overall feel and service resulted in my decision, I feel Coast to Coast at the Trafford Centre deserves a single one star, matching the average rating for this store.

Everything went wrong when we came to the Trafford centre coast to coast. Before we'd even say down we asked to see the gluten free menu for my celiac friend, and she was given a disclaimer to sign to say she wouldn't hold the chef responsible if she got sick!!! So straight away she wasn't filled with confidence about the quality of gf food! We never had the same waiter twice, so half our food order was wrong, and the other half forgotten altogether! Drinks were not diet, (I'm an expert!) but the waitress insisted they were. Anywhere else they'd swap it for you regardless. We also sent two halloumi salads back become the lettuce and bak Choi was frozen solid. The manager then came to tell us we were wrong to suggest that any salad ingredients were frozen, as they were all kept in the fridge not the freezer. Didn't change the fact that you couldn't chew through half the ingredients! There were several other little issues with the food, mine was cold, the sides were greasy etc etc etc, so all in all it was a fail of a day! Disappointing because other visits had been fairly good!

One pet hate I have is walking into a take-away and the staff are unkept, dirty, or pervy especially as I have pre-teen girls. Popeye Express did not disappoint, the seating area was clean, the staff were polite and presentable and whats more the service was fantastic, we were treated with respect and not leered at! We had our order taken, no pressure to pay before we received the food and the pizza was prepared in front of us. When they invented portion control these guys did not attend the class! The pizza toppings were in abundance no scrimping at Popeye's that's for sure. As there is only seating for 4 there is no environmental requirement for a public toilet, however as kids do mine decided before the pizza was cooked they needed to go! The staff didn't hesitate to show us to the rear of the premises where they allowed us to use their facilities. 15 minutes later our Pizza was fully cooked, cut and boxed for us to take away. Great service, great food, great location. Would I recommend - YES! I'm not going to wreck my diet and go every week but if i'm in Eccles and we need to eat out then Popeye's will be our 1st choice.

Come here during a very busy period and as I learnt first hand, everything seems to go to pot. You'll be waiting to be sat down, then you'll have to ask to be served and finally when the food comes, it isn't quite the same as before. Don't get me wrong, there are much worse places to be dining in the centre. The New Orleans atmosphere here and comfortable booth seating win my vote, and when the food is good, it's delicious, the burgers and steaks are cooked to perfection. But there have been other occasions where the steak has been sinewy and the burgers overcooked. This place needs a management overhaul.

And I am a stickler for steak in particular. To me, a steak is not just a lump of meat. A steak is something that should be respected, revered and ultimately scoffed. When I cook a steak I make sure to let it marinate awhile in its own blood and some olive oil, with seasoning. Then I cook it, lovingly, in a pan as hot as the Sun, for the shortest time possible. Then I enjoy it. I respect the steak. The chefs at Dexters do not respect the steak. Cue a gristly sirloin and a fatty sirloin turning up at our table greasy, lukewarm and criminally overcooked. I don't understand how soooo many places get it wrong. I order it bleu. I want it bleu. Bleu does not mean well-done. Bleu means basically barely-dead. In this case I tried to send back the wayyyy well-done steaks (about £12 each) and we were told that they would charge us for the steaks we had (which we'd not even had a bite of), and the replacements. We ate our original steaks but, needless to say, it turned to ash in my mouth. The chips were OK, but chips are chips. The staff were rude and the service was literally appalling. We waited for about 15 minutes, having been told we'd "be seated in just a sec" on entering. Then we waited about 20 minutes before our drinks order was taken. When our drinks came, I'd been given a large wine instead of a small, and the boyf's coke was flat. Our waitress was unbelieveably rude, to the very end, when we said we weren't paying for the starters on the bill....because we didn't order starters!!! In the end we had to get the manager to come over, and even then I think he thought we were pulling a fast one! Crappy steak is a crime, in my eyes. But I suppose if you fancy rude service, crappy steak, decent chips and being erroneously charged £10 more than you should, Dexter's is right up your street.
