We ate inside, but many people ordered take out from a convenient window at the front of the shop. The employees spoke little English, but managed to communicate with them, and they were good natured and patient with our poor German skills. We felt that the food we ordered was a very good value. The portions were large and all of the food was made to order. They stay open later than some of the area restaurants, so this could be a good option for a late night bite.

There seemed to be several customers eating here, so we decided to give it a try. The proprietor did not speak English, but we managed to place our order by pointing and gesturing. He was friendly and willing to work with us. This was not a very large place, and the people inside seemed to be locals, who were not necessarily dining there, but watching some sports on TV and enjoying some camaraderie and beer. There was only one small table left where my husband and I could sit. My husband enjoyed his bowl of lentil soup. He said that it was spiced well. I ordered a Doner sandwich, which was somewhat new to us. We have had Greek gyros before, filled with shawarma meat....but this meat was spiced somewhat differently, and more mild-tasting. The cook filled a roll with the sliced meat, vegetables, and a creamy sauce....more like a thousand island than a Greek tsaziki. It was very good and interesting. I ate my fill of the sandwich, and my husband finished it off. My husband ordered a bottled beer, which he declared very good. I would say that the only thing that were negatives is that my husband actually wanted another soup on the menu, but it was not available and that I felt just a little uncomfortable being the only woman in the place and all of the men just hanging out there. I did not consider this in my rating, because I feel that it may have been a cultural difference, but worth mentioning for others. This was definitely an informal place, but suited our needs at the time.

Most of the folks (about three couples) were enjoying some beer or beer and brats in the afternoon. As far as bratwursts are concerned, I didn't think they're that special (photo). I believe it was called Werdenfelser meaning it was from the Werdenfels region known for its beef production. Brat had a orangish red color and very fine texture unlike many of the German bratwursts I had before. In that sense, it was very unique. To my surprise, it was deep-fried in oil, but it wasn't overly greasy--you just had to be careful not to bite in too quickly because it was served very hot. Potato salad was very good and tasty with great balance of sweetness and vinegary taste. I dare say it was one of the bests I've eaten before. Now, bratwurst and potato salad for 7,80€ is very reasonable in this tourist-heavy everything is over-priced town of G-P. Service was just fine nothing special to note--server took care of business efficiently.
