Like pretty much all McDonalds in the world, this is pretty standard in Europe, so no refills on drinks since there is no drink machine. When I entered, I immediately went to the kiosk to make my order. I was surprised at the selection. Much more vast than what could be found in the US. A slice a pineapple was available as well as plant based burgers. I made my order and got the receipt. Took about 7 minutes to get my order. And it was packed real nicely. Even the drink was packed so that everything was placed in one bag. No need for a separate drink carrier. The staff were friendly and spoke some English, at least enough to tell me that my order was ready. The restaurant itself was clean and well kept. Definitely worth going to if you want to save a bit of money on your trip.

They serve mostly the same food everywhere with the odd nod to local taste, but the truth is we visited them more in France than we would have liked. It's our preference to support local independents over the multi nationals, recognising in the complex world of trade that the multi nationals have a place too and to deny this is foolish. So my dear reader I hear you ask why? Well three key reasons: free wifi, toilets with paper tissue, soap and hot water to wash hands and just alright coffee. Our experience was that outside this chain all three were harder to find particularly free (and for that matter pay) wifi. To give balance there wasn't a BurgerKing in sight anywhere and we didn't visit the French burger equivalent Quick as again they were not easily found. We were staying in camping la Vallee with dreadful owners running a prison type regime so we spent more time off site. Some towns like Houlgate and Cabourg had free wifi in town centres which just didn't work. Also the local cafés priced tea and coffee at and often above €4. For this price for coffee you get about 180 ml of fluid made with poor tasting water and cheap robusta coffee. Most cafés charged €4.50 for a 330 ml of diet coke. In short a rip off as far as I'm concerned. The coffee in Mc Donald's was somewhat better maybe their water is filtered and half the price in nearby cafés, good wifi and friendly staff. I noted that a Big Mac meal; the burger, chips or salad and a 400ml drink in the Dives Sur Mer branch was €5 or 50 cent more than the cost of a can of coke in a cafe. One morning there we got 2 lattes, 2 Mimi croissants 2 mini chocolate croissants and 2 mini Danish for 4 euro. So as the cafe owners can't be a*+ed then why should I? Case closed.

They have savory and sweet options, and they also offer small sides like frites and the bread itself, soups, and langos, along with formule menu options. The inside space is warm and very snug with only a few seats along a long table. I got the Fresh Fruit Kolo-Cone, and was originally told it would be three minutes, but ended up waiting a good 8-10 minutes (but I was in no rush and the man who was working by himself seemed overwhelmed with the number of customers that rushed in at once). The bread cone wasn't bad, but not spectacular. The outside was crunchy with the sugar, and the inside was a little softer, but remained pretty crunchy as well. There were fresh pineapples, kiwis, and tangerines inside the cone, topped with fresh whipped cream. Maybe it was just the menu item I ordered but I don't think the tart fruits paired well with not-so-sweet bread (this is what I get for trying to be healthy). the whipped cream melts almost immediately, and because the fruits are sitting in a warm cone, all the juices start pouring out like it's no one's business. I felt like I was pretty much just eating crunchy bread with cubed fruits. I tried the Apple Caramel Langos at a food market two months ago and it was delicious - deep fried dough covered in their housemade caramelized apples. The deep fried dough was fried perfectly and not too greasy, although the apple topping was a bit tooooo sweet for my liking.

The buns are larger than most people are used to, but they are fantastic. For the quality you get the food is actually cheap! I tried the "Le Marcel" Burger, which comes with a choice of very aromatic French cheese, for me it was the Morbier, which I would have never tried on a Burger, but they make it work with great seasoning. Really a great combination. The fries are Belgian style and good and come with a homemade sauce. Also quite good. One of the best burgers I've tried in a long time. And on top of it all Marcel is a really nice guy and was open to my stupid question. An excellent host! Check it out.
