Poutinebros - baby poutine with Bros burger and a La Masquée beer.

I really really wanted to live this place. Having lived in Quebec City and spending lots of time…read moregoing across the border from VT, I'm a poutine aficionado who even brings the fresh fromage en graine (cheese curds) home the day they're made and makes poutine. Although the cheese curds were fairly spot on and fresh, sadly, the sauce brune lacked flavor. I would've liked to season it with even some salt to make it a bit more savory. The burger also lacked flavor and the bacon wasn't crisp. I hate to admit that I prefer the poutine at Chez Ashton which is literally the very fast food version of poutine in Quebec). The la Masquée beer on the other hand was delicious. I'd go back just for a beer. I did think it was neat that they'd named dishes after Les Canadiens players (Allez Les Habs!) and that they've brought flannel cool to Rennes, but it just missed the mark a bit too much for my tastes. They do carry Ben & Jerry's ice cream (always makes me giggle to see my neighboring ice creamery in France-seriously, the factory is across my backyard) for those missing those fun flavors or for trying them for the first time.

Super great, cheap place among a lot of eat-in bars and brasseries in Saint Anne. You can eat in,…read moreor you can do take away. The menu is pretty simple - poutine, burgers, and drinks. There's also a few sweet selections that caught my eye (the Crazy Chocolate Cake that someone in front of me ordered looked ahhmazing). You order at the counter, and they give you a receipt with your number on it. I did takeaway so I went back outside to the window, where they hand you a paper bag containing the delicious contents. If you're eating in, I suppose you just find a table, and they call your number out when it's ready. I love that you can see them making the food right from the window. I got the Grizli (Two strips of bacon, mushrooms, and parsley with brown sauce and cheese curds). The classic size is 8.50 euros for 400g, but there's an option to make any of the menu items a mini size (200g) for -2 euros. So, my mini Grizli came out to 6.50 euros. The portion was perfect for a small Asian girl like me. The food was hot and fresh, and the brown sauce covered 95% of the frites. I loved the bacon, which was super salty, because the rest of the frites weren't too seasoned. The mushrooms were sautéed nicely in a butter I'm guessing. The only negative I have about this was that the cheese curds were a little.. squeaky? I've only had poutine once in Canada so I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to be. The cheese taste was good, just the texture was a little weird for my liking.
