Young Maori girl took the order of someone who. sat down after us and was clearing tables when we were obviously waiting to have our order taken. Every time we needed something had to get up and ask. This girl and another staff member chatting with each other when there were empty drinks on table and I we had our plates removed with empty drinks on the table and no one asking if we wanted another - whoever owns this place lost a fortune in sales this night. Finally approached this girl about her behaviour and she sneered at me rather than apologise! 5 minutes later she was chatting with her friend again!!! Wouldn't go back.

I brought my boyfriend here for a casual birthday dinner. He wanted pub food, so we chose Flying…read moreMoa because he could get some classic NZ fish and chips, and there was even a vegan option for me. Win-win! The ambiance of this place is really cute. The lighting is really nice. The service was okay, not great but not bad either. It was rather unremarkable. When we first arrived, there were a ton of guys there watching the UFC fight - if you're into UFC, this appears to be the place to go. We started with drinks, I ordered a prosecco and the bf got a beer. The beers didn't have prices on them, but we were still surprised when we got the bill and the beer was $15 - almost as much as my dinner. I'm not sure if that's normal or if I'm still getting adjusted to New Zealand prices, but when my boyfriend asked the kiwis at work, they said it's definitely not normal. I ordered the vegan buddha bowl (was really excited to see a vegan option on the menu at a pub that isn't chips) and my boyfriend ordered the fish and chips he was so excited about. The food came out pretty quickly. Mine was fresh but lacked flavor - it became obvious really quickly that the chef who invented this dish is not vegan nor do they know any vegans. Vegan food is more than just vegetables without dressing ;) Nonetheless, I did enjoy the mashed sweet potato in the middle and I was very happy to be able to eat something healthy at a pub! My boyfriend was very happy with his fish and chips and it came out looking perfect. All in all, the Flying Moa is a standard pub. I do hear that they have a good trivia night which I would be interested to try out, and their drinks list looks enticing - I wouldn't mind trying some of those jam jars and cocktails.

So an hour and 20 mins later I made it. And I needed a good beer. And they have me many to sample before making a choice. They even had Lagunitas. I was shocked to see that. And the other import was Guinness. So props to them. I did order the Steak and chips. With peppercorn sauce and blue cheese. It was a good steak. Made to order. Mid Rare. Yes. That's how I row. No greens here. I'll have to double up next time. But they did lead me in a direction for more drinks.

The entrance is tucked away on Tamaki Drive so be sure to keep your eyes peeled. While a few menu changes have happened over the course of my visits, they've kept to their roots and just continued to improve on an already great menu. I'm a big lover of their Attic tasting plate- if you're a first timer this is a great way to get a bit of everything at a fraction of the price. I enjoy places that cater for drinks and nibbles as well as a full dinner meal, and The Attic executes both of these quite well. There's plenty of seating available, from outdoor tables and stools to warm fireside couches- so no matter the occasion, weather or appetite, there's something at The Attic for everyone.

The service was fast, but for some reason, the lady on duty seemed disapproving that we didn't order more than drinks. She kept coming and asking us if we needed anything else, and looked incredibly sour when we said 'No, thank you' each time. This was a Sunday afternoon, and hardly anyone was there, so it certainly wasn't a seating issue. I felt like she was going to ask us to leave at one point. Bear with me, but I don't want to feel pressured into buying more or leaving early. I hope she was just having a bad day and this isn't a normal reflection of customer service here.

Maybe I caught them in a bad time, the experience was not what I expected. The location: newly revamped Orakei Bay Village, where things are really starting to pick up. Sits high above the Orakei Basin with a view of the bay and the city, perfect place to spend the weekend mornings. Very family oriented. There are two toilets in the restaurant also, so you don't have to go outside to the main area. The coffee and drinks: no complaints, try out their ice coffee!! they also have fresh juice and a small local brews on tap. Service: this is the biggest downfall. Maybe they just have not sorted out the flow, but it took way too long. We went as a large group, and have repeated requested them to serve the children's meal first, but it still took more than 30min before anything arrived. During that time, we ended up having to visit the nearby supermarket on 2-3 occasions to buy snacks for the little ones. Hopefully this will improve over time! Food: you can taste the freshness of the ingredients, unfortunately its sort of ruined by the amount of peas you see in each dish. Nothing against frozen pees, but when you are pay more than $20 for a branch dish, you hope to get some fresh greens as well. Everything in general is salty. The serving portion is also a bit on the small side for the price. Somewhat disappointed with the experience. Will give this place 4 for a coffee shop, but really a 2 for a restaurant. We've visited this place twice over the past 2 days, and similar disappointing experience each time. Hope they really get their act together, plenty of room for improvement.

It was 30 minutes wait for a few sliders, some bread, prosciutto, fries, and popcorn. The wait staff was friendly in general but I just couldn't get pass how long it took. I don't know why I have this idea - probably from British television, where everything sold out of a cart is grey and comes with peas. It's not fair though, because in real life my experiences have all been positive. White Lady is fine if a little overpriced, and this place is actually pretty good. If you ignore the fact that it's a caravan this could be any Turkish takeaway, and it'd be quite a bit better than a few I've tried. And once you accept that the food isn't full of botulism the fact that it is a caravan gives the place a certain roguish charm. I haven't tried their burgers (call me a traditionalist) but you can't go past a kebab and chips on your way home from the video shop.
