You can get a hotdog at a couple of other places in Galesburg, but no drive-thrus to my knowledge. Culver's down the street serves a corndog/and has a drive-thru. So Freddy's hotdog was worth the chance. And it's served on a nice toasted bun, looks a little bit like a pita bread taco. They'll also make it any way you want. I ordered it with American cheese instead of their shredded cheese. I wanted their cheese fries but the only warm cheese sauce they have is jalapeño cheese.........no warm cheddar cheese. So I tried the tater tots which were good but kind of on the spicy side, and I prefer a much more traditional buttery tater tot. Spiced and specialty batter seems to be a theme with Freddy's. A little goes a long way for me tho in that spice department, so I'm not the most appreciative of it. Very nice people working there and the price was affordable. I will probably try some other things in the future and also look into their sweet concoctions, frozen custard.

The staff is always knowledgeable and friendly and the atmosphere is awesome. The interior dining area is limited, so call ahead for a spot! But once there you can look at the historic local photographs on the walls, appreciate the ornate metal ceiling, and watch the chef prepare the amazing crepes via a well positioned mirror over the cooking surface. The crepes, whether savory or dessert, never disappoint. There are many wonderful fresh ground coffees to choose from, their aroma greet you as you come in the front door. But my favorite experience at Landmark is to dine outside on the beautiful, secluded patio. We usually go for a crepe, but this time I had the Wagyu beef meatloaf sandwich. Juicy and delicious! And I never stop in without getting the spinach bisque (you can get a cup, but I always get a bowl). It is so rich and creamy and exactly as I remember it from, well, back in the day. While a cup may be fine for some, I always insist on a bowl of the creamy, buttery bisque. Recently for lunch, I chose their Wagyu Meatloaf Sandwich, paired with spicy ketchup, provolone and crispy onion strings on a grilled artisan white bun. The side of Mayo aoli is a great topping too! Sitting inside and watching the chefs prepare the crepes is a delight, but a beautiful afternoon calls for a relaxing meal on their ivy lined patio! Indeed, I'd dined at the Packinghouse back in 1986. They've been open since 1978, and I recognized it immediately. Then, as now, the place looks the same and the food was remarkable. My co-star and I sampled the inviting salad bar, and he opted for the broiled steak covered in mushrooms. I had the shrimp scampi, which was spectacular and enough for two normal people. Our only disappointment was that the highly touted bread pudding had been exhausted. Hence, we settled our stomachs on the chocolate lava conflagration that helped put things into perspective. The ambiance was an interesting mix of nostalgia and packing plant apparatus. Being a vegetarian, I wasn't offended by what happened there since 1912. The still-active railroad station is just across the street, which made sense for the building's original purpose. Our server was a local historian who enhanced our visit with her perspectives. Yes, the HOJO where I stayed in 1986 is long gone, but the Packinghouse is still doing what it does best. I must also mention that downtown Galesburg is an inviting anachronism reflecting the old America that I grew up with. There are interesting stores and other attractions. Galesburg is also home to Knox College, and was the venue for one of the Lincoln-Douglas debates back when debates were really debates and not Kabuki Dances.

TLDR version: First impressions: I was nervous when we pulled up at 5:00 pm on a Saturday night and there were only four cars parked anywhere near this restaurant, which is located in a strip mall. A few other customers arrived after us, but it was not nearly as busy as I expected it to be. There was no wait, and we were seated immediately in a booth in their large dining room. I'm used to paying before eating at a buffet, but this place doesn't charge until you're ready to leave. Subtotal for 3 of us (two waters and one soda) was $49, so about $15/person. First, the good: We had a very friendly server who was very attentive with refills and clearing plates. She asked multiple times if we were doing okay or if we needed anything. We tipped well because of the excellent service. Now the bad: I walked around the buffet tables before deciding what to try. The salad bar was disappointing because it only had iceberg lettuce, not even romaine, just a chopped up head of lettuce. There was an assortment of fried chicken: sesame, orange, sweet-n-sour, etc. There was a roast in a pan with a large knife laying next to it, which you were expected to slice yourself. There was a pan of fried rice, green beans, and crab rangoon. There was no steamed rice available. A small selection of sushi was at a large station along the wall. The same station had what appeared to be ingredients for a fresh stir fry: raw chicken in a bowl, along with an assortment of raw vegetables, but the flattop grill next to it was off, and it didn't appear that anything was going to be cooked anytime soon. We were there an hour, and all of that food, including the raw chicken, just sat there. There was an enormous selection of desserts. In fact, there were more desserts than anything else. A huge table was filled with an assortment of fruits, puddings, and gelatins. Another table was filled with an assortment of cookies and petite cakes. There was also a large assortment of ice cream in a deep freezer. You were expected to dip it yourself with provided scoops, which were sitting in a tiny sink well with a trickle of water running over them. I tried some of the various chicken, most of which was cold. A couple of sweet-n-sour chicken pieces were warm, but a third piece was so fatty I could not finish eating it. I tried a couple pieces of sushi, which were just okay. I ended up eating mostly fruit: strawberry-glazed bananas, apricots, some peaches, and a few pieces of broccoli. Restrooms: The women's restroom was clean; however, they have no paper towels. They have hand dryers, but the sinks are not automated, so most people are probably using their dirty hands to turn the knobs on the faucets and then touching them again to turn them off. (I used my elbow, and I used my shirt's hem to open the door.) Overall, I would not want to go there again. I would suggest they make various improvements, and they could even raise their prices a little bit to compensate. This place has nice potential, and I feel it could do really well with some changes.
