We told the bartender what we'd been through. A lot of money and issues and heartbreaks had been had that previous weekend. My brain was mush and I was very emotional. I even ordered the wrong food at first and my boyfriend caught it in time but I was on the verge of tears the whole day. We ordered Fried Pickles, A Pulled Pork Sandwich with Curlies and a Tri Tip sandwich with Potato salad. The food was flipping amazing. The pickles were crispy and delicious. The sandwiches were great...the Tri Tip was EVERYTHING. It was so good. As we ate, another bartender came on shift and ours was going home for the day. She thanked us for coming in and told me she hoped I had a better day and good luck and went home. The other bartender came on over to check on us and told us that our meal was paid for by the previous bartender and that she "knew we were having a hard time and wanted to take care of it." The beef on the French dip looked dry and kind of old, but the onion rings were amazing. The ribs were amazing, falling off the bone tender and super flavorful. The waitresses were all super nice even after we had to send food back, so I'm glad they at least had good attitudes and weren't mean to us afterwards. One unique thing I think is really cool about this place is they have a salad bar that is included in some of the dinners! The restaurant itself was quiet with just the faint sound of casino machines in the background, and a few rowdy guys who showed up in big trucks and were yelling at each other through the windows. It's hard to describe the feeling you get when you go to a place like Midas Bighorn Saloon. It's…read morekinda like the 10th wonder of the world. I felt a sense of warmth and nostalgia and reverence for the history of the only watering hole... only business really, in this tiny town, 30 miles from a paved road. A group of friends and I went to Winnemucca to do some desert riding. I am a map nerd was scouting for rides and happened to find Midas Bighorn Saloon looking for destinations to ride to. The Yelp reviews were great so it seemed like it was worth the trip. Little did we know it was a little beyond the range of our side by sides for a round trip and there was no other gas around. We got to Midas with just barely over half a tank of fuel, not enough to get back to Winnemucca with a margin of comfort. We're welcomed into the bar by owner Paige and some locals. They were a little skeptical of us (rightly so) after they heard we were from California but after a few jokes I have never felt more welcome. Paige was a fantastic host full of wonderful history of Nevada gold mining (a career miner himself) as well as the history of Midas and the bar. My beer never ran dry and they were the coldest beers around. Paige heard about our adventure and offered to give us fuel if we returned with his cans full. Of course we did and brought more fuel for ourselves so we could comfortably get back to Winnemucca the second time. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I had a fantastic time. I only drank beer but Paige had a full bar. The artifacts on the wall could keep you busy for hours and there's a porch and patio if you want to sit outside. Bring your own food! As of our trip the kitchen was not open. The bathrooms are also nice and clean. There's a TouchTunes juke box on the wall and Paige can even accept credit cards. I will 100% be returning again and I've told everyone I know who does desert riding or overlanding to make Midas Bighorn Saloon a destination. Oh yea, the beer prices were fantastic!
