I purchased a 2007 Boston Whaler 210 Ventura w a 225 Verado from Taylor Marine Center in December…read moreof 2023. The sales experience with Joe was overall positive. They connected me with a surveyor, Joyce Nolen, to perform the inspection and she did not appear to have missed any issues on the boat. (She didn't cover the motor.) They were also accommodating on the scheduling/timing of hauling the boat post-purchase. However as others have experienced, I had a terrible time in the post-purchase experience & with the service team. It's one thing that they charged $360 for a compression check - I guess you can make an argument about hourly labor rates. But it's another thing that I paid a hunk of cash post-purchase for servicing the motor, only to find out after taking delivery that the trim unit had a bad and obvious leak. It turns out it was a comically obvious issue - a gasket that was supposed to be inside the trim cylinder had slid out and all the way up the trim ram. It was sitting in plain sight and yet the service team completely missed it, even though trim inspection is a step in regular Verado maintenance. When I took delivery of the boat, I immediately made Joe aware of leaking fluid (he never responded) but I remained hopeful that it was due to the cold weather as I hadn't identified the cause yet - I'm no mechanic. I launched the boat in May and it immediately became clear that there was a serious issue. After a couple engine hours, the trim unit lost so much fluid it could no longer lift the motor, and I had to pull the boat out. That's when I identified the missing gasket, and I even found old pictures I took of the motor before it was serviced and you could see it then too. After only a few weeks in the water, I now have to rebuild the trim unit. In my case this ends my boating season for the summer before July, all for an issue that should have been addressed in the post-purchase servicing. I provided all of this information very clearly and courteously to Joe as the issue developed, but instead of being a champion of this issue to the service team, he's been defensive and flat out stopped responding. Your mileage may vary, but don't be surprised if they are quick to take your money but slow to take responsibility for their shoddy work.

In advance i contacted the Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) and they told me as long as she has a copy of my license and all of my paperwork is in order she could do it. She did it for me about a year ago on another boat i own at a different location and had no problem. When Josh denied her she called me and i called DFW on the 3 way and the lady there knew the Josh and he knew her. She told him to do it, and he told her he didnt feel comfortable doing it. She says its done all the time at agent offices and he still refused saying i had to be present. Then he goes through my paperwork and says hes denying it because its going into a business name, and i explained that my Articles of Incorporation paperwork for my LLC is also there showing the business is in my name. The lady at DFW told him to do it and he still refused. He made my sister drive to Dover to get it done. In Dover they had no problem with my paperwork. I feel its because we are black.

This review is based on my experience selling a 26 foot cruiser. Jonathan is hit and miss as far as being able to get a hold of. He's much better contacting via phone than email. Email responses either didn't happen or were very slow. He's better if you can catch him via phone. As someone who's selling with him, he has the most expensive brokerage fees but i took that in consideration with his location and that he lists on many of the boating sales website. The fees also include keeping the boat on his lot and weekly cleanings. This was important since I wouldn't be in town when selling the boat. In the end, the boat took 3-4 weeks to actually get listed. I wasn't kept up to date as to the status of the boat until I called each week. The boat was never listed on his website so it never had a chance for more offers. Since I moved from the area and was doing this over the phone, I felt I should just accept the offer even though the boat didn't get the same marketing as other boats. I'm glad it sold soon after it was ready, but I wish it got the same change through extensive marketing as his other listings got. The 3 stars is for missed expectations. I expected the boat to be listed within a reasonable amount of time. There were some cosmetic items he said I should get. I spent over $2000 in cosmetic items which I was hesitant about on a $22k boat. I didn't know this would take over a month to complete. I expected the boat to be listed on his website through yacht world to get extensive internet exposure because I believe that many more boat buyers are buying online and I wanted that exposure for my boat. That didn't happen before receiving an offer 2k below asking. i felt I should take it but really wished the boat had more exposure online prior to being asked to accept the first offer. In the end, i believe Jonathan and his wife are good people and are honest, but I felt expectations weren't met when I signed on.
