I sold a piece of inherited farm land in December 2022 and Williams Law Firm handled the closing…read more After the HUD-1 settlement sheet was prepared, Andy Farr stepped in and said that I had to sign an AV-3 form and have $5059.42 withheld to pay deferred Present Use Value taxes for the previous three years. He assured me that this was a procedural step and that the funds would be returned to me once the new owner enrolled the land in the PUV tax program ... probably in 4-6 weeks. About six weeks after the closing, I reached out to the Williams Law Firm to ask about the refund. They gave me a song & dance story about contacting the Catawba County Tax Office attorney about the issue but never got an answer for me. So, I contacted Brian Myers at the tax office and he said there was no provision for refunding those taxes and never has been. He added that the AV-3 form was a "voluntary" payment of those deferred taxes and that I was not required to pay them at the closing. After learning this, I contacted Beth Williams and she has not returned my calls or emails. As it turns out, she is a personal friend with the buyer. I suspect that Beth had Andy Farr add this to the closing as a favor to her friend. My recommendation is that you NEVER trust this law firm to handle a closing!

When I first set down with Micheal I ask him numerous times on his charges and he responded that he did not know because he didn't know how much time it would take. He never once stated he gets $200/hr and his partner $165/hr. So as you are sitting down talking about the weather, sports, etc. you are getting charged. I told Micheal, a man with 41 yrs of so-called experience he should have been able to quote the services I was needing and that most everything in life is quoted!!!! It was my mistake I should have found another accountant that had a clue on what the charges might have been. I was charged $916.45 to do personal tax returns, so if you are reading this go somewhere else don't even let him do personal returns. This man will rob you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never owned a small business before so I had no idea how to do the sales tax. Since I needed Heather's help quickly, I signed the contract while in my car to get her started. Even though we discussed in depth that taxes was why she was hired, her contract did not cover that, but the necessity to get her started was larger than messing with the contract (big mistake). I worked with Heather for 6-months where she walked me through paying sales tax. My Accountant came on board in October. They started going through Heather's work and found a huge amount of mistakes. The net of it was that I owed an additional $15,000 in sales taxes and $5,000 in late fees. As you can image I was blown away and being a new small business was very hurt by paying that since it was a surprise. When I spoke with Heather about this issue, she told me she doesn't do taxes. She offered to pay me back for half a month of her service, which I have to say is also overpriced. $500/month for the amount of work that was done is ridiculous! My accountants bookkeeper is only charging me $300/month and doing much more work....accurately. This experience was awful and a very rough way to being a new business. Be warned and think twice before jumping on board with Burton's Bookkeeping.

I recently hired Dustin McCrary to help me navigate a difficult separation. From the very beginning, red flags popped up. My first impression was that of a pushy and inattentive used car salesman. His closing line, "So, are you ready to sign up today?" solidified this feeling (used car salesman). Despite initial reservations and my husband solidifying 6 other attorneys, which limited options in my area, I hired him. Big mistake. During our initial consultation, I outlined my situation and provided detailed documents outlining exactly what I wanted to achieve in the separation agreement. However, Mr. McCrary seemed disinterested, barely listening and showing no real concern for the specifics of my case. He brushed aside the documents, requesting a "wish list" instead. When I reiterated that everything was documented, he skimmed them dismissively. Alarm bells started ringing. Further, red flags emerged when he casually mentioned his frequent collaboration with the opposing counsel, hired by my soon-to-be ex-husband (who, by the way, used my stolen credit card to pay for his attorney). Mr. McCrary assured me of a swift resolution, promising to have everything "wrapped up by the end of the week." However, my gut feeling told me otherwise. After the meeting, I emailed him a detailed breakdown of my requests to ensure clarity. Later, it became evident he hadn't even bothered to read them. Later in the week, he contacted me with the supposed results of his negotiation. He boasted about securing the house, but it became clear he'd only addressed the few basic points I'd mentioned verbally, completely disregarding the detailed documents I'd provided. Frustrated, I reiterated my expectations, only to be met with dismissal and a sense that he wasn't interested in genuinely representing my needs. Communication became increasingly strained. Emails turned into arguments, with Mr. McCrary resorting to him scolding me rather than addressing my concerns. He seemed more interested in winning arguments than securing a favorable separation agreement for me. The final straw came when my husband, through the opposing counsel, revealed details of our disagreements with Mr. McCrary. This was a blatant breach of attorney-client confidentiality. Mr. McCrary had been discussing these disagreements with the opposing counsel, raising serious ethical concerns. However, the damage was done. Mr. McCrary's separation papers contained contradictory clauses, rendering them unusable for the divorce filing. This resulted in significant delays and additional legal fees. Absolutely avoid Dustin McCrary! His unprofessionalism, lack of attention to detail, and disregard for client confidentiality make him a terrible choice for anyone seeking legal representation. read more
