Do you love law? Do you like to study? Are you a huge fan of being completely ignored on important issues? Well McCoy Law is the law office for you. Not only is it like pulling teeth to ever get a response (and that's IF they respond,) you'll basically have to know the law yourself because you'll be all alone with McCoy Law. As you're dragged through this process, you'll be offered very little legal advice, help, or council. Essentially, you'll do just as well by yourself. This process began with me handing them a check, and that's just about where it ended with the work on their part. I paid them extra to file for divorce, but McCoy Law dragged their feet so long, my ex-wife filed first. There were several issues I contacted McCoy Law about, including my ex keeping my child from me, and I got no response whatsoever from my attorney. I finally called and requested my money back so I could get an attorney that wanted to work, and my attorney blamed his secretary for everything. They did give me the money back for the divorce filing at this point, though the secretary originally said I would not get my money back. My attorney acted as if he had no idea I had ever contacted them. I still wasn't given any advice. I relied on a friend at work who was also going through a divorce. He would ask his attorney questions I had since McCoy Law did nothing for me. I finally came up with my own terms for the divorce and asked my attorney to write it up in a proposal. In the middle of all this, I called and asked to speak with my attorney, and McCoy Law let me know he wasn't currently working with them. Maybe he was fired, but that's all I was told. When the divorce was final, my ex-wife told me. I wasn't even emailed about it until about a week after from McCoy Law. They even uploaded numerous documents a week after my divorce that were completely irrelevant. I assume so they could charge me, though it's been almost a month and I have yet to see any billing statements from McCoy Law. I also had an issue with procuring my property from my ex-wife's home. I tried twice to email them about it, but I never one time got a response. So if you love wasting thousands of dollars while doing it all by yourself anyway, you're looking at the right place. If you're thinking of going with McCoy Law, I would strongly suggest just using them for the legal writing. You'll save quite a bit of money. Hey Earl, need a slogan? I retained Earl for my divorce. He was so disorganized that he sent me court papers for other clients twice. He sent my paperwork discussing our plan of actions to my ex wife instead of me. He showed up to our settlement conference without any paperwork or figures. He told me to agree to things that did not benefit me at all. He missed the fact that my ex wife wanted me to sign off a claim to a settlement and asked for no details. He then submitted me with paperwork that he drew up to sign and thinking that since I paid him and retained him that he was working for me I signed them only to find out that my ex wife received hundreds of thousands of dollars that I would have been entitled to half of if he would have questioned it during the proceedings. Terrible lawyer. Paid a lot of money to this guy and regret every single dime. I could've went else where with my money and gotten way better treatment. For one: the guy never knows what's going on. He was late to couple of my hearings and had to explain to the Prosecutors and the Judge about how he "thought" it was at a different time. NEVER calls you on time or is on time for appointments. Paul Smith is a not an attorney I would recommend at all after spending $4500 on him for $200/hr. He is not worth the fee he charges hourly and you will be left wondering how he burns through you money so fast when it takes him sometime 1 hour he will charge you to read 1 email. His experience is lacking a lot and this will reflect how he represents you and how he decides to move forward (or backwards) with your case in family law. I can not speak to Paul as a criminal defense attorney but if he puts as much effort into that as he does family law you have wasted your money with this attorney. Paul also charged me on multiple occasions when he called the wrong phone number to contact me at, calling my Wife's number instead of my own and then giving me the same excuse each time, 3+ times, that "it's just the first number I see when I pull up/out your file" and I asked him repeatedly to change that so it would not be a continued problem however it was. In my opinion Paul was a big waste of money burning through my $4500 in just 1 1/2 to 2 months times with only stepping into court once for me in December 2016 for a simple status hearing. There were documents that need to be filed that I had to bring up to Paul myself instead of him bringing them up to me so we can request certain things. This list just goes on and on with how unprofessional and inexperienced Paul is as an attorney. I hired Paul to be my Family Law attorney that involved my Son that I am the Non-Custodial parent to. Paul will not make much of an effort it seems for client that are non-custodial parents therefore it would be more damaging than helpful to hire him for such. My final opinion on the matter is Paul works for the Law office of Earl McCoy and if Mr. McCoy is willing to hire such help then I would not expect much more from his performance either. Please don't waste your money that you want to put into fighting for your child(ren) on an inexperienced and poor performing attorney for $200/hr like Paul Smith or an attorney that is desperate enough to hire such an attorney to fill a slot like Earl McCoy for $250/hr. My case so far is going to be turning out more then likely just the way it would have if I had not spent $4500 for legal help (and that is a good direction it is turning out) in which I did not receive much at all and it was a lot of mistakes in the process, neglect, poor judgement and just overall unprofessional. I would not recommend this Law to anyone who wants true legal help because I did not feel like I got even minorly adequate representation for what I paid. Paul abandon me in the end and I believe it is due to me pushing him to be the attorney I hired him to be but instead did not want to do his job well enough. The end result would have been the same though as my intentions where to fire Paul for his horrible services. read more
