Been coming to McConnell for 30 years. Looks like they have been making some changes to their overall business model. We have purchased many cars from them and had our vehicles serviced there also (later on service). Last two negotiations on our cars, I noticed sales agent, seem fixated on the dealer markup price vs the MSRP. He started his deal from the dealer markup. In the past we used the MSRP as our starting point and always got good deals. Service Department: used to be very good. Looks like they have bought into DEI when selecting their mechanics. If it leads to good repairs, I'm good with that. Last two services, there were things that were simply not checked. Could be a one-off thing. Service Reps are outstanding. Hondas are reliable as a rule. That said, many Honda Dealers service departments have added on extra crap when you go in. A normal oil change and tire rotation is around 78 bucks. However, Honda uses codes for different types of repairs. Example: code: "B1" means oil change and tire rotation. Add another 100 bucks "point to point" inspection. Never could get a real answer. Anyone have to have their brake fluid changed? Honda dealers recommend every 50000 miles. I guess when you have a reliable car, as a dealer you would go bankrupt if you did not jack up maintenance costs. read more

Fast forward to today get in my car to head to McConnell and it's completely dead. Called to let them know what was going on and whomever the service department employee was quickly scolded me stating that my appointment was at 1:15. I'm like no I was told it was at 2 and he kept talking like he wanted an argument. He said well when you can get it running you can bring it in and my response was I don't think so. 11 minutes ago NEW This was the worst experience I've ever had at a Honda dealership. Was driving home through Alabama and all of my lights came on and car started running hot. Had the car towed to McConnell because it was the closest Honda dealer on July 16th. Got a call on the 17th and they were to going to look at it. They called and said it was the turbo, was approved by my warranty company and was work was completed. While they were doing the test drive the temperature gauge was still going up. That was on July 21st. I was told that they need a bay to do the tear down and by they should be able to get it in that week. No communication till the 27th when I asked if work had started on my car. No work had been done yet, said that a tech had been out and they were behind. On the 31st I got a message saying they hoped to start the tear down that day. Not hearing anything, I reached back out. As of August 7th, the tear down had not yet started. At a month without my car I still wasn't getting answers. On August 16th I was told that the warranty company did not approve my claim. I needed a new engine. It's a 2017 CRV with 77,000 miles on it. Was told that I should call the warranty company. Asked then who they showed as my warranty company and the person I talked to (a woman) told me American Warranty. I said that wasn't my warranty company and she said that it was under that umbrella. It was not. Told me that they had to have someone else come out to do the inspection, and since I got my car in Philadelphia it had to be someone from there. The number of blatant lies that I was told on that phone call were insane. I told her to have a tech call me back. No one called me back. My step mom called them to see what was going on since I wasn't getting anywhere. The person that she talked to said that the claim was denied because they thought that it was fraud. Zero idea where that could have come from. I told my original tech that my mothers name was on the car, I have that in a text along with my warranty companies information that I provided the second day they had my car. So, finally call back with anger in my voice and not taking no for an answer. Magically, my claim was suddenly approved. Given an estimate of August 31st for completion. Called a few days before that and was told my car was ready. Without having received any phone call letting me know that it was. Also, when I called they said they showed a customer balance for the tear down. He was able to get that taken off, but not without letting me know that they have problems with the Honda Care paying the guys. So, if I wouldn't have said anything, they would have tried to charge me for that. Communication horrible. Awful customer service. Only at the end did I find out that it wasn't even ran through my warranty, it was run through Honda Care since it was certified pre-owned. Would not ever recommend this place. Also, not that this is on them, but I was coming back from a vacation and had lots of stuff in my car, one being a case of soda. Since it was left in the Alabama heat, of course they exploded and now my backseat is mildewed. read more

They were $1,200 less than the other dealers so we drove down here from west of Birmingham. We had a great experience. About 4 months after purchasing a used 2018 vehicle from this business for over $16,000 in February 2023, I discovered that it needs a new engine. The estimated cost to replace the engine is $11,000 to $12,000. I put faith into this business and trusted them to sale a reliable used vehicle to my wife, 2 and 4 year old daughters, and myself despite the red flags I encountered during the buying process. When I called to discuss my situation with them, their only proposal was to trade the vehicle back to them in exchange for another of their vehicles. Below you will see the original review I wrote on Google in February of 2023. ** Original Review ** I do not trust this business and I suggest that you be speculative of everything they say or do. Honest sales folks are unfortunately your interface to a greedy and dishonest process that's designed to, from my perspective as a customer, 1. Make as much money as possible and 2. Expend as little money and effort as possible to do #1. These two goals by themselves aren't an issue; However, they're operating in a manner that does not consider the customer - the money in their pocket is all that matters. I identified a problem that I was told would be fixed, but instead the team responsible for working on the vehicles attempted to cover up the problem rather than perform the fix that I was told they'd do. If they can't clean and will willfully lie to you and your salesman about performing work, you better expect that you will pay for your vehicle or service at least twice; Once when you purchase it from this business, and again when you need to compensate for their incompetence and greed. Extremely poor experience. Made a service appointment to have part of my car looked at. After waiting around for 2 hours, my car was still not even looked at! What's the point of making an appointment? When I asked to have my keys to leave, the service advisor gladly complied. She could care less about my experience at her dealership or if I would ever come back. Very poorly run operation. Whoever is the service manager here should not have a job. They sold the car. I even offered to pay for a higher-priced model if they would discount some for me due to the error. I would say the experience was as unethical as can be. Okay.... I did a review a couple months ago after the purchase of a 2020 Honda Accord. and I guess I should have clarified myself. Fist of all, the sales representative was owesome. He went over and beyond to help us. Over and beyond to get us approved for this was a 1st time buyer for the car we got. We had no problems with him at all. If I had to give him a review it would be an A+++. The problem was with the finance Dept. saying that Honda finance were their hold up. Yes, it is true that we stayed there ALL day long. I am a proud Honda owner of my third car purchased from Honda. I Love Honda, but when a customer is there to purchase a automobile it shouldn't take 7 to 8 hours to get approved. It's either approved or not approved. Therefore if not approved they can go somewhere else. My next car will be a Honda 2023 and I will go back to McConnell Honda and ask for my same salesman. So it's pretty sad when you take your car in for service and while the car is there being looked at for a issue with the ac you ask that they please look at the air bags as the indicator light is on..I was told that each issue has a $55 charge so if I had 5 separate issues I would have to pay $275 in charges JUST to have separate issues looked at this is not for repairs the charge is only for recommend repair.. We could see at least 6 people just standing around inside. There were several other customers who pulled up and no one came out to see if they needed help, so they eventually left. It has been a long time since I purchased a new vehicle. Finally, I decided it was time, so I made an appointment with Okia Thomas. I had already made up my mind what vehicle I wanted and that it was to have a manual transmission. Okia was very professional, very knowledgeable and quite courteous. I was also impressed with her ability to drive a manual transmission, which most young people cannot. I rode with her to gas up my new vehicle. After I purchased the vehicle, she and I sat in the vehicle and she thoroughly went over all the instrumentation and controls. The VSC Salesperson, Dohnovan Wilcox, processed all the paperwork and was quite efficient at his position. He made the paperwork painless for me. In and out in a jiffy. Okia Thomas has called a few times to check if all is well with my new vehicle and if I had any questions. To that note, I told her I was enjoying my new car and had no questions. I told her that sitting so low down in a vehicle took a little adjustment, since I drive a truck, which rides a lot higher. It is a sweet ride and I am very happy about the 6 speed manual transmission. Unlike my truck, the Civic does not immediately roll back on an incline. My truck immediately starts rolling back, which is bad when a driver behind you is riding your bumper. Okia is a very personable individual and a pleasure to talk to. Liars, crooks, and thieves. These folks are everything bad you've ever heard about car dealers. I wouldn't buy a vehicle from these people if my life depended on it. My family has owned Honda and/or Acura vehicles since 1988, but my experiences with McConnell ensure that my next vehicle will NOT be a Honda product. Stay away from this place. They did permanent damage to our vehicle during routine maintenance, tried to hide it, and then refused to repair the damage even after admitting to it. The general manager treated us very poorly. She is extremely unprofessional and, along with the incompetence of the current service manager, is responsible for my decision to never do business with McConnell again. I had to contact Honda's Corporate Office in California and have a case created to address my issue due to the incompetence of McConnell's management. Honda Corporate even suggested we use the Honda dealer in Selma due to McConnell's incompetence. Two thumbs down! read more

My honda civic wasn't driving very well and the engine seemed to be having a difficult time compared to normal. Maybe it was because of the heat. But at this Honda, everyone works at a slower pace. I purchased a 2008 manual transmission Subaru Outback XT from them in January of 2015. To their credit, they *did* repair front bumper damage before handing it over. But, when they delivered it to my house, here's what I found on the inside: - an empty beer can under the rear passenger seat - leaves and a vaporizer re-fill in the glove box - dust everywhere - what I can only assume is an adult "play-time: kit in the back (a sock filled with a candle, bottle opener, lighter, and an unopened condom. Yes. A condom). You can't make these things up, people. I immediately had to take it to a shop to have a rear main seal leak repaired ($200). When I called to complain, they said they would comp me for either A) a car detailing totaling $100, or B) 50% of my mechanics fee. I asked for a refund for the car detailing. Sent them my receipt. Never got a check. I drove it 1,000 miles north, and thank goodness it made it. Within two weeks the transmission completely failed; apparently a former owner tried to do some upgrades to the transmission and did a terrible job. Had to search for about a month for a used XT transmission, and ended up spending over $3,600 to have it replaced. These are all things the dealership could have and *should* have caught and addressed before handing the vehicle over to a paying customer. They got my money, and shipped the car over to me without giving it a thorough inspection or cleaning. I felt incredibly undervalued as a customer, and would not recommend buying from them. read more

This place service, parts and cashier department is completely horrible. They freaking suck. I would not recommend them to anyone. It's obvious they lack are short staff and possibly the ones there aren't trained enough. Last week, I called to order a part for a car I bought in Atlanta. They didn't have it in stock so it had to be ordered. I stayed on the phone with a rookie for 25 minutes. At first, I thought I was being punked. However, this guy was for real. I was put on hold and transferred around the world during that time. Ok, we're in the next week and I call to return/ refund the part. These damn ppl put me on hold, transferred me from person to person and hung up on me twice. This went on for 30 minutes. I called back and asked for a manager. She told me the manager couldn't hear and he would call me on his cellphone (wth). I went off!! Telling my problem and all. Ok, I'm real pissed now and about to drive to Montgomery. So, I call back one more time before I drive there. This time when I call every person needed was available and issue taken care within 3 minutes. Mannn....the way I feel, I still may drive there because it was very unprofessional for a so call reputable dealership. And then no one apologized for the problems incurred. That's okay!!! I get a kick out of the review below complaining that no salespeople came right up to them when they pulled up. Personally, I like the fact that they are low key here. No hard sell. I had the same thing and found it refreshing that I wasn't swarmed with salespeople the minute I pulled up. I just went in, and a very friendly person is right inside asking what you are there for. As soon as you tell them you're looking for a car, they call a salesperson to come and show you around. I test drove probably 6 cars over the course of two weeks for myself, and didn't buy any (none were comfortable for me). There was never pressure - just a request that I keep them in mind if I see anything else on the lot I'm interested in. Netta was my salesperson. Ironically, a few weeks later, my wife's Honda CRV was totaled, and we ended up buying from from McConnell. It's not like we got the deal of the century, but they dealt very fairly and made a very reasonable offer right out of the gate, and accepted our counter offer. I found it all to be very no-pressure. My only complaint, if there is one, is that they won't let you take a car out on your own. The salesperson has to be with you. I personally like to drive a car a good long time, alone, to make sure I jibe with it. But, if you know what you're looking for, that wouldn't matter. Again, Netta was great, and the place was low/no-pressure. How someone complains about that is beyond me. read more

Never purchase anything from this dealership. I purchased a new vehicle from McConnell Honda in October. Carried it back the first week because the key-less door lock does not always work. Nothing done. Carried it in Monday because the GPS system only works about half the time. Service dept. said they could not fix it because it was not messed up while they had it. The service manager said it is a NOLA problem and they should fix the problem. So today I called the Honda dealership in NOLA and they said they have not heard of any problems. So I talked to service manager and general manager at McConnell and they both told me that they could not help me. This is my first vehicle from McConnell Honda and as I told the managers today, it will be my last. The GPS shows the vehicle going through the middle of the blocks, goes in circles and sometimes the vehicle goes backwards. I have offered to bring my vehicle in and let them give me another vehicle to drive while they drive mine and figure out the problem. They refused. read more
