I originally enjoyed being a member here. However, due to what I consider shady busy practices, I've moved on. Firstly, you don't send out an email 33 days before the new year to tell your members you're raising rates when they have 30 days to cancel due to the contract. Doing this during the Thanksgiving holiday season made it worse. An ethical business would let your members know well ahead of time. Secondly, every time you go, something is broken. The steam room was down for over 2.5 months. They fixed it and then it broke again. Then the pool was down twice in less than a month. No, you don't get to go up on my rates 15% while not providing services for months I'm paying for. read more

If you enroll your child in swimming lessons, please stay nearby and observe the instructor. Some will be fine, but I have seen others engage in unsafe practices (since when is it safe to start off two swimmers from each end of the pool, so that they knock heads with each other in the middle, or one swims literally over the other?). I have also seen an instructor grab a child by his shirt to lift him out of the shallow end. If you raise the issue with the aquatics director, it's a waste of breath, because nothing will change. If your child takes lessons on the weekend, there is no one above age twenty, even managing the staff. Just because they're physically capable of passing swimming tests doesn't mean they're mature or possess any skills in communicating effectively with children. The wellness center is okay, but don't bother leaving a comment card or making a friendly suggestion. If the Y didn't think it up, it ain't happening. Don't expect the person at the wellness desk to do anything. It's just a young, apathetic person, who thinks he is paid, just to sit there and scroll through his telephone.​ read more

Our family LOVES this facility. My son swims competitively here, my daughter takes swim lessons, and we take advantage of some of the summer day camps. Additionally, I work out several times a week here. The service and YMCA values really shine through in every member of the staff I've encountered. read more

Great Programs for young children My Son and his Wife signed up their eldest son Dylan (our Grandson) for Soccer at the McCleskey YMCA. I'm a bit late writing this since we went down in September but the experience is still alive. I give high marks to coaches who give of themselves and bring out the best in young children. On the day that we were there, the temperatures were approaching 100 F and they did not push the children beyond what they could do and were totally committed to insure that everyone was hydrated Their well being was first priority. That said, they did make sure that everyone was given specific instruction and that no child was favor over another and that all were treated equally. Coaches care and that is what matters. At the same time, the children recognize this and they gave their best as well despite the heat. Good balance That said, it's a nice facility and offers much more that just Soccer. Should I open the door to a McDonalds with a McMorekey or a McLesskey? You be the judge. One of my least favorite YMCA facilities. The girls are front desk are really friendly and really seem to like me - but one of them liked me a little too much and sat me down and took me through lots of questions and extensive forms, and even a phone call to my home gym to make sure I was really a member. It was Overkill and took about 15 minutes when I only had 90 minutes to work out. Nobody has ever taken more than 5 minutes to get me signed in (and usually it's more like 5 seconds). I did not appreciate it whatsoever. But aside from that there are plenty of issues with this gym. It's cramped. A lot of the machines they have aren't working very well and they're missing some of the main things that I need. And the cramped space in the stretching room is definitely uncomfortable cuz you're packed into a little box-room with very little AC and a bunch of other people. It's also an extremely long walk from the parking lot to the front door but there are worse things than that I suppose. read more

There's a lot to like about joining the Y, especially if you have a family to join you. In January, there was a limited time incentive to have your membership enrollment fee of $99 waived. I believe this incentive has been extended through the end of February, and there are no contracts or commitments. Furthermore, if you know someone who is currently a member, you can get reduced monthly membership fees. The Y offers several leagues for your kids to join at a reduced rate for members. They have very nice facilities with different amenities at each location. As a Y member, you are able to use any facility you like. At the McCleskey-East Cobb YMCA, they offer basketball, tennis, and racquetball courts, as well as an indoor pool and indoor track above the basketball court. The YMCA is very family oriented. You will often times sees lots of kids around the facility. They also offer free child care so you can bring the kids with you while you work out. There is a limit of 2 hours per day and 8 hours per week. But in my experience, that is plenty of time. Another benefit is that they offer a Parents Night Out usually once a month from 6-10pm for only $5 per child. This usually fills up pretty quickly, so be sure to know when it's time to register and at which facility, as it rotates occasionally. There are several types of aerobic classes offered. Be sure to check the schedule. You should usually be able to walk right in to one. The Y is good at encouraging its members to work on their fitness goals and staying committed by offering contests and prizes for accomplishing goals. They also offer what's called the Coach Approach. From my understanding, you have a personal fitness instructor guide you through workouts once a month for six months. And they will monitor your progress and tailor your workouts to keep you motivated in going back to the gym and staying on track to reach your goals. I have not been a member for long, but from what I've experienced thus far, I am really liking it here. The staff is extremely friendly and good with the kids. I visited this location on a few occasions. The people are friendly, the facilities are clean, and there is hardly ever a crowd. They have plenty of equipment to get a good workout including free weights, machines, and a large cardio area. I also used the racquetball and basketball courts. The Y is ran very well! It is always clean and everything is usually in top condition. The front desk is always Courteous and helpful.

I very much liked the community that has developed there, and I liked my interaction with the front desk, but my opinion on this place inevitably soured. Can you believe this place doesn't have a jumprope? I had to bring my own, and I left it there for others to use, and after two weeks it was stolen. Did they think to go buy another one? Nope. Then I tried to bring my junior high daughter's schoolmate as a guest and just got the 5th degree from the front desk. Turns out I'm only allowed to bring one guest per year!!! It was my first guest ever. This really soured my on the Y. LA Fitness allows guests upon demand. People keep telling me about that place, but it was a moot point come COVID. I think the last straw was when 17 and below members were not allowed in during COVID. OK, you gonna give me a 50% discount off my $85 family membership? Nope. Nothing. So I just quit. They didn't even try to keep me. That's how much $ they make. As such, they've lost the impetus of appreciating customers. Don't kid yourself. These folks count the pennies. I was there like 5 years. I probably should've just bought my own gym equipment. read more

This place has it all and a membership here also gets you into the one on j ferry. Its got all the equipment a regular gym might have. Only thing that may be a downer for some is its got a family feel so if your looking for an LA fitness feel you wont get it. Their kids stuff is awesome and the people who work there with the kids are the best. Joyce, a woman who works the child area has been there since my neighbor's 17 year old was a baby. Wow! My kids love this place. It's incredibly convenient and the staff is super nice. My only complaint as someone who use the weight room a lot is that the free weight area layout isn't ideal. Kinda cramped and awkward. But I feel like everyone here does the best they can and truly cares. That's what's important. read more

We have been coming to the YMCA for a couple of years for different reasons. We have really enjoyed this location. The place has a fantastic pool. The swim program is pretty great. The activities they hold for families and children are constant and entertaining. The facilities look great and taken care of. The summer camp options are many and they do a pretty good job in keeping everything organized and streamline (although it's not always perfect). The staff is usually pretty nice. They have the best Zumba teachers who give it all in their classes. It's worth it just for that. It really feels like an extended family, a real community there. My only suggestion to them is to be mindful of starting a class that has great feedback and audience and then suddenly and abruptly take it away to accomodate for space or something else. This seems to happen quite a bit in summer when camp is being held but then after camp they don't put the class back. read more

I've always been a fan of the Y, particularly for its focus on families and activities that can engage everyone. Since we just started a family, we wanted a place that our daughter could go to when she is older for fun activities and to get exercise. The layout of this Y is good. Very easy to find everything needed. The pool always has at least one lane for lap swimming (even if the swim teams are practicing) so it is accessible. There is even a "babies in the water" class for babies 6 mo and older to get a first experience with being in the pool in a special shallow location. I like the squash courts, but you should sign up ahead of time to book out the time to avoid waiting in line. The spin classes are interesting, and you can just hop on and join in and spin for as little or as long as you want. There are a few tennis courts with a hitting wall for practice (nice!) in case you don't have a partner on hand to practice/play with. I like that they have a separate parking space for the folks that will be on the soccer fields so it doesn't clog up the regular parking. We also looked into the "daycare" area which was very organized. You get 8 hours of care time per week (nice if you need to drop off your child for an hour so you can get a workout in!). That is not the awesome part though. What was really neat is that they have separate play areas for babies, toddlers, and older children and offer different services and support tailored to the age of the child. They also make you sign in and out and do not allow anyone in who isn't staff---a good security feature. You can see everything mostly from the front desk so that was good. You can certainly drop off any needed baby/child care items, including food and snacks, diapers, formula, etc and they will take care of the child for you. It is such a relief for my spouse and I, since it is hard to juggle fitness with a baby in tow that needs 24/7 attention. read more

I am a big fan of the Y and what it stands for. Love the programs and ability to go to other YMCA's if you are a member (or even a drop in). The classes are good. The equipment is ok, sufficient for my needs. However, I do wish we had more higher end, different, and better maintained equipment. I would pay a higher premium to do so. read more

I have been a part of this ymca for about 6 months now and still love it. No place is perfect but the workers, directors, and the vision of the Y is what i love. Are there some areas to improve and update, aboslutely but that comes with time and discussion. The YMCA needs to go back to being innovative to connect more with the community. It is not a gym, it is a community for anyone of various backgrounds, morals, beliefs, and age to come together and be community and enjoy all that the YMCA has to offer. I workout a lot (obviously) so I like a good gym. This Y's weight room is one of the smallest I have seen but I honestly have never been here when it was too crowded. The rates are significantly cheaper than any of the nearby gyms. Also if you have kids and don't use the Y you are a bad parent. read more

Love the jacuzzi, steam room,& dry sauna..Hate abundance of cardio equipment & lack of free weights. Not a gym for body builders

This is an ok place. This ymca is unique in terms of the fact that it caters to one extreme to the other. If you 12 or 65 you will be VERY happy. Heck even the temperature seems to be a bit warm to accommodate. Equipment is nice but the spin class really cranks the 70s tunes. Sorry but CCR and spin do not mix. read more

Overall okay. Kids care is amazing, great classes; everything else is about average. There are some really picky and complain-y patrons, so there are signs EVERYWHERE reminding you to do this, don't do that... kinda overkill. It seems like a lack of basic manners on the part of some (being inconsiderate, not watching their kids, etc.) have made this location a bit hypersensitive. Good price for all they offer - lots of amenites: pool, childcare, aerobics/step/yoga/spin/Pilates, jogging track, basketball gym, LOTS of machines. Limited weights area. read more

One of the swimming instructors was being very rude to my child. my child was grabbing some rings that she got from a toy bucket and an instructor came up to her and said "those are mine!". My child apologized as any good person would do but guess what the instructor says. She says"that's what you should say!". My child was about to cry. The instructor's attitude did not stop there. She kept shooting my child dirty looks. I hope they improve service towards children. read more

Excellent youth programs - soccer, basketball, etc! Very impressed with the winter/coed league basketball program. The coaches were friendly, dedicated and made the season fun. Great way to start off your kids in a fun environment that is competitive but not too 'over the top'... read more

We were members here for 3 years and finally got tired of the many security and cleanliness problems we encountered. The dressing room/lockers/shower area had loitering young people, not dressed for any kind of gym activity, passing things around under their hands. I stopped using these areas entirely. The pool and whirlpool were always dirty and crowded and the whirlpool was very small and only held about 3-4 people at a time and had broken, ragged areas of tile that I cut my foot on several times but after complaining, I was told it had already been reported. We started going to the Y's in Alpharetta and Canton instead, since they were cleaner, had better security and were more well-managed, but got tired of having to drive that far just to use the membership we were paying for. We gave up and went elsewhere. read more
