Well, when it came time that I needed to do some digging around for local Missouri lore related to square dancing, I did a little checking on their website and as Emeril says, BAM!, they cooked up exactly what I needed. The best part was, it was free. I mean, I guess my taxes are paying for it, but the folks who work there are really helpful, they actually seem like they want to assist me, and they had all this equipment for me to use when I needed to listen to some cassette tapes and even some reel-to-reel audio. Of course, there were some weird things I had to get used to. No pens. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zed. But I could carry around electromagnets, no problem? Anyhow, that being said, I had to get used to other archivist rules (keep everything that was in a folder, actually keep it in the folder). But since they deal with one-of-a-kind stuff, and they don't want to lose anything, this makes sense. I wish I had a reason to delve into their archives earlier, now this place is on my list whenever I have any inkling to learn something about Missouri history.

The floor is not sloped, so if a very tall person sits in front of you, oh welllll. I will also say, the screening room only has one aisle to get into the seats, and it was a bit tight to squeeze past people if the only seats open were against the wall. I was also surprised that the bar served drinks in real glasses. Definitely saw a few broken wine glasses, which :E Sounds like I am full of nothing but complaints, but it is a nice microcinema and I would visit for a regular screening if I'm ever there not for the fest!

All of the staff was well-organized and extremely accomodating. The volunteers were obviously serving for the love of the event. We found the additional expense for VIP Whole Hog tickets were well worth our costs. The toilets were very clean and smelled fresh. The food was delicious, though I did grow weary of Bar-B-Que for every meal. The bonus was being able to ride the rail because of the VIP perks. No where else will I be able to stand 10 feet from Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires, The Black Pumas, and others. I will return!!!!

The museum staff are really nice! They were very welcoming and made sure to point out the small Anthropology museum that you can also visit. Pros: this is free! As I mentioned above the staff seem really nice. I also overheard a little bit of several docents giving tours to different groups while I was there, and they seemed really knowledgeable and had interesting stories and facts about the art. The only thing to keep in mind, is that it is pretty small. You probably wouldn't spend a whole day here. I spent about an hour.

On some friday nights (artrageous friday nights, of course), you can wander around the funky, cozy underground catacomb gallery spaces, each wine and cheese and stuff with fellow gallery-wanderers, and just soak up all the crazy stuff they got going on, from a silver jeweler to musicians to I think even a hair salon was down there. Anyhow, it's pretty amazing. I don't think they have these kind of reception open-gallery things often, but they usually coincide with the artragrous fridays that columbia downtown does. So check it out and come hungry because they like to lay out snacks and such. As someone fictional said to Sarah Conner (?) once, "I'll be back."
