Located at the Visitors Center is a museum, gift shop and theater where you can watch a 20-minute film about the history of one of Missouri's oldest settlements. The parking lot is huge so that parking should be a no-worry. Be sure to get a map of the village as there lots of historic sites noted. Many of the buildings are still standing after a century and a half, including the legendary J. Huston Tavern. Speaking of which: at this time, the tavern is temporarily closed until the State (which partly owns it) finds new ownership. I was very bummed that I did not get to eat there recently, but here's to hoping. But be sure to check out some of the old buildings like the printing press museum and the old jail. Plan on spending at least a day here.

Wow has it been years since I've stepped into a physical library!!!…read more After igniting my love for reading again, I found I needed a more sustainable place to cycle through books instead of hitting up B&N every week or so. Columbia public library made it easy to register for a free library card all online! I could even start checking out books before my card was shipped to me. We decided to check out the place in person and what a beautiful safe haven! There's lots of quiet spots to sit and read or study. Checking a book out was also so simple using their little kiosks located all around the library. Can't wait to come back!

From the front, it looks small, but if you walk around the back there are places for bands to play and plenty of seats for people to come and enjoy music or even just take in the scenery of the grapes or the hills (they say it's the tallest spot in the county). The guy working the counter is fabulous and made us laugh the entire time. The wines...the only bad I can say is I wish they made more. There were 5 different types of wine, all wonderful. I had a really hard time trying to decide which ones (yes plural) to get. Even with just a few wines, they have a wide variety for everyone. I will most definitely be coming back...and a great stop on the way to the lake!
