I explained why I made the appointment, what pains I had, what issues I thought were causing the headaches, etc. He had answers for all of my questions. I'm very detail oriented so I appreciated how he explained what the muscles or bones were doing when the problems occur and what the course of action would be to correct them. This was roughly 10 months ago, since then my wife and I both average 2 visits a month because we feel so much better after being realigned. The staff here is also super friendly, they're very welcoming and just fun to talk with. I called 7 places! Parkhurst was one of the only ones who did same day x-rays and adjustments. Other places either didn't do x-rays at all (which is dangerous in my opinion of over 20 years of chiropractic care) or they only did x-rays on the first appt and you had to schedule another appointment to get adjusted. Dr. Russell was amazing. He explained everything to my husband thoroughly since this was his first ever chiropractic visit. He did multiple modalities and since I'd already been working on my husband for the last few days he showed me another trigger point to help him stretch out his hip flexors. Some of the modalities, like deep tissue laser therapy, I had never even seen. If we were local I would definitely be returning. The staff was all very nice and helpful. They took the time to make us copies of the x-rays to take home. It was a very busy office with swift check in and minimal wait times from what I could see while waiting for my husband to get his x-rays.

At first glance, they seemed like an overall friendly place -- especially when the entry board welcome us by first name -- but some red flags immediately turned us off: - the parking lot was tight and had a very awkward traffic flow - upon entry, it looked pretty organized, but the self-serve kiosks were not your typical check-in stations - the exam/treatment areas were impersonal, offered no privacy, and gave us an "assembly line" vibe - the place was quite noisy The tech who went through the questions and did our x-rays was very nice (she had only been there four months), and the Dr. Britt was very personable and kind. We were scheduled for a second visit where they would go over the proposed treatment plan, and we paid our $52 each. During the second visit, we met with Dr. Britt. He went over our x-rays and proposed treatment plan, then adjusted us for the first time. After he dropped us off with the insurance/billing staff, the experience quickly went downhill. She immediately went over the reasons why our chiropractor visits would not be submitted to our insurances, would have to be paid 100% out of pocket, and required payment on the day of service. Their reason? She advised that our health insurance plans do not cover wellness chiropractor treatments and they were not going to do something that would cause them to be audited. She repeatedly advised that they COULD submit the claims to our insurance carriers and that they WOULD get paid; however, they DID NOT WANT to take a chance on getting audited. We feel that this was an underhanded way to get our money. They had our insurance information from day 1, and they knew the proposed treatment plan. If it was known that insurance would not cover our visit, why not tell us up front and give us the chance to refuse treatment? I have chronic neck and lower back pain. I have been treated by two chiropractic practices over the last decade or so and have never had a problem with insurance coverage. The State of Michigan offers health plans that cover chiropractic visits. This latest experience did not feel right.
