That said, the real estate brokerage industry critically needs an overhaul. It's too centralized --a dominant handful of brokerages do most of the business, and a handful of agents make the big bucks. The members-only Realtor system, designed more to enrich members than to foster an efficient market-- is hugely anticompetitive. So large and widely diffused an industry needs to be open to all. Try to trade property on your own, or with a non-Realtor agent, and you'll learn about loneliness!

When you are selling your house you want someone "SELLING" your house. Jockeying phones, pressing…read morethe flesh...a salesman! A hunter, not a fisherman. Someone that does more than just unlocking the door and letting the prospective buyer roam free. I did not find that here. What I did find was an agent who was out of touch with the power of the Internet. A guy who acted like he owed me money every time I'd call him up. A guy who didn't think it was worth telling me that he was also going to be trying to sell his own home 200 yds from mine. A salesman that has lost that A.B.C. attitude (Always Be Closing, for those who are not Glengarry, Glenn Ross fans) and with the exception of telling me I should paint the trim of my house (something I was doing anyway) his main selling point was asking me to drop the asking price $20k below it's market value. I know these are tough times, but this began well before the bottom fell out and when I found he had posted his home on Craigslist and not mine or any other of his clients I knew his attentions were focused else where. I know it's just CL, but when I want someone to sell my house, I want them to sell "MY" house....
