Spanning over…read more500 acres, the land in and around the Wutai Shan Buddhist halls and gardens has been cleared to place magnificent and massive statues and structures! It's a scale that is breathtaking and awe inspiring. Not only does the main hall stand as a giant on the center hill, but hills all around the hall are topped with golden statues of individuals key in Buddhist traditions. Rows upon rows of smaller statues - each unique - often surround the large statues to "protect" them. Inside the main hall, you will find the main prayer hall, snack counter, counter with prayer objects and protection mementos sold as a way to collect donations, relic room, and cafeteria with traditional Buddhist food (all vegetarian and without strong aromatics like onion and garlic). It is a truly powerful, impressive, spiritual location on the hill tops, and can be enjoyed by walking the ground or driving from shrine to shrine. It is an active religious site, and has that sense to it. It's not a tourist location trying to entertain its guests. We walked away astounded, inspired, and surprised in all the right ways. It is apparently continuously under construction as they keep expanding and adding to the grounds. A large portion below the smaller halls was being excavated for more structures and statue gardens, so expect a little of a mess as you make the drive up. There are also a few areas off-limits as the construction is being completed. Still very much worth visiting for the rest of the gardens however!

We ordered combo 1 (veggies with rice) from the on site restaurant but the portions were quite small, probably due to the event and how many people were present, it was quite hectic. Overall the grounds are spacious and very well maintained. We walked around the grounds and it felt very relaxing. Plan some extra time when here to walk around. If in summer, bring a hat as there isn't too many shady spots available outside.

So here is a capture of both experiences…read more Prepandemic, there are offering of inscents and donation box and access to the museum, you can walk through all the rooms freely and go to the bookstore. The place can be a bit busy but not crowded on weekends. In the basement the bell would rig every hour with a vegetarian serve that is good for around $7 and you can go for seconds if theres still something-food tray style nothing fancy but very tasty. During pandemic, restrictions to the main room, no access to inscents and no access to other rooms or museum. No access to vegetarian lunch. What's fun is if you go to the washroom on the main floor you will pass a bulletin board with all the.politicians who passed through in person (or virtually during pandemic). Presently access if by appointment and the staff check for You Can Go app clearance. :)

It's a prime location within the GTA so it's relatively easy to get to and good for people who want to pray and meditate. They also have a large dining hall in the lower level. You purchase a lunch box meal ticket first ($15/box) and then head into the hall to receive your meal. We came around 12:30pm for lunch but most of the food was already served but still enough to enjoy a vegetarian meal. Our meal included white rice and three vegetables, though it tasted large and portion was reasonable, it didn't fully match the photo of what I thought I was getting. Regardless the meal was filling and well seasoned and you can get a soup as well. Theres a few long tables and you can pull out the plastic stools from under the tables to sit. Dropping one star only because I saw a large earwig like insect moving inside the table throughout the meal which made me a hesitate for a bit.

You may want to hit the big bell 3 times. You may want to write your wish or greeting to your family and put it in a specific area. It is the temple which owns 'Wu Tai Shan' in Peterborough and have more statue to see. There are monks that pray in the morning and afternoon. There are indoor parking too.

We plan to be back in a few hours." Border Guard: "That's where all the hot girls hang out, right...the Buddhist temple? Come right in!" ...we weren't too sure about that one, but it must be to fun to be a border guard! As we arrived to the Buddhist temple, we were overwhelmed with its gorgeous Asian architecture. We immediately felt like we were in an another country, with all the Chinese calligraphy as well as the seven story temple-like structure. We stepped in and saw that there was a free tour being given at 11am (it was a Sunday). After waiting for twenty minutes, we embarked on the tour. There were no hot girls, just monks in proper attire, but we enjoyed the tour anyway. It was about forty minutes long and given in a broken English accent. Not to mention, you have to haul your butt up seven flights of stairs throughout the tour, but it's worth it because you get to see the entire temple and where the monks practice! It's something different, but definitely interesting, especially if you're a fan of Asian architecture. (and please forgive my ignorant generalization of Asian architecture..I'm aware there's many different types of it, but I just use the word to paint a picture). Highly recommended to check this place out. You can plan two hours on a Saturday or Sunday and be back to Buffalo by noon.

Also they should update the fact that their downtown location is shut down on Yelp and google. On a bright note their is a lot of seniors and it seems very social so I might try this again elsewhere.
