We had our first appointment with Shirley a few months ahead of our wedding. We had picked out "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers as our first dance song and wanted to have an elegant, classy dance. Shirley listened very carefully to our goals from the dance and taught us a very nice dance with classic moves, but also incorporated a few moves that that "felt right" to us as couple :). We did three 1-hour classes and one shorter "tune-up" class two weeks before the wedding. My husband had no experience with dancing, so I was nervous at first on how this would go. Shirley is a GREAT teacher and worked with us so well on the steps, coordination and timing. She was always patient and helpful. In the end, we were very comfortable performing the dance at our wedding. We heard compliments from everyone, including the venue management who watches first dances basically every weekend, and of course our guests. They couldn't believe that we only took a few dance lessons! We highly recommend Shirley to any couple looking for excellent instruction and someone who truly cares what you want as a couple and ensures both of you are comfortable with all of the steps!

On this occasion I took Groov3 which is dance workout for all levels of fitness and choreography. I previously have danced with the instructor of this class (Lindsey V.). The sound system is banging. I like the dance floor as it is a proper wood floor. The schedule seems robust. I only know of one other teacher here and she was is also dynamic (Anh), she teaches a hip hop cardio class. Right now the studio has a bunch of specials to kick off summer. She clearly had favorites (we weren't one), and we observed her not even address my daughter despite her running toward her yelling her name out of excitement in class. Sure, you might have a couple favorite kids, but never show it. It got to the point that my daughter made comments to my wife and I at home that "Ms. Nicole won't say hi to me." For anyone with young kids or had young kids, for a 3 year old to say this, it must be a pattern of behavior. It broke our hearts. And to cap off the experience, the night of the recital, my wife and I admit we forgot to pay the remaining balance with everything else going on in our lives (expecting baby #2 in 3 weeks to name the biggest). Nicole greeted my wife and mother-in-law in quite possibly the rudest and most disrespectful way imaginable...."I don't have time for this tonight. She can't come in until you pay!" Thankfully we had enough cash to pay, but she released our tickets the day before and would have sent us home for an oversight we clearly were willing to pay. She caused a scene, and it was completely out of line. Her tone, demeanor, attitude, and overall treatment of people she doesn't care for is unbelievably disappointing and unfortunate. Not to mention, the lack of organization at the recital, the lack of food and drinks for young kids, etc. was all shocking (it was from 4-7p). Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The business is run smoothly, efficiently, and the communication is fantastic! I never feel like I wasn't notified about something or that I'm out of the loop! I would highly recommend Collective Dance to anyone wanting to put their child into a dance class. It may not be as big as bigger cities (LA, NY) but I'm glad they had one. Here was my experience here. AMBIANCE: It's in more of a suburban area of Chicago. Relatively close (15 minutes) away from the airport and from downtown. The place itself is on the 2nd floor of a building. It seems like a pretty historic brick building with a spacious layout. The layout is basically one big floor to dance on with ceiling lights and string lights to bright up the place. The class consisted of a lot of talented 40+ which was cool as they had a lot of knowledge to share. The size is great for group practices and socials. Parking - Pretty much just street parking. Customer Service - Awesome! My instructor was Dawn Lara and she was great! Knowledgeable and friendly. I felt pretty welcomed in this place. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. I had a great experience here! The instructors were awesome and my classmates were pretty fun. One of the main things for me was always feeling will people be condescending and whatnot, but the vibes were pretty welcoming here. This was a good start to learning more about the dance community and scene here in Chicago, I just wish I stayed longer to learn more! Advice: * Check out their schedule online and on social media for events.

Our class was in studio #5. The sound system was good. Unsure if I loved the floors, but they worked good for this class. Ample spacing for our class which had nearly 2 dozen participants. The space it self is really comprehensive. I saw multiple bathrooms and a gender-neutral bathroom. There is at least 5 separate dance spaces. Each space was arranged depending on dance style. I saw a room with several barre. The general area also boosted several areas to just chill while waiting on a loved to finish a class. On this day...all the kiddos were taking classes. So many little one excited to take their dance classes. It was cute because this little girl kep staring at our class through the window. Highly recommend seeing all the offerings at this dance center. I was surprised by the many offerings they have. I want to try a beginner hip-hop but we will see. Tip: Parking is located around the building on street. Mostly free but get there with time to look. I found it easier to just park off Belmont and walk.

I also have coached a cheer squad. I also was a Zumba instructor for 5 years. Location is prime. Right off Damen (Blue Line). Plenty of paid parking in several directions. I can actually bike here in 10 minutes. Studio it self is on the 3rd floor. I didn't see an elevator but not really an issue. However you have to get buzzed in so don't be late. I never had a problem. Studio was spacious. Dance floor was good. Plenty of mirrors and clean bathroom. Ventilation could be better. View of Point is beautiful. Price for value is good. I had a groupon for 5 classes. I have only done 4, and unsure if I will take the last class. Also they have new client specials which seem very good. I think $30 for a week for unlimited classes. Class format I found frustrating. I pick up choreography very fast. I attended two different classes with three different instructors. Zi-Cardio and B-Girl Dance (hiphop). While I was able to keep up in class, I found the choreography to be too much. Not hard just too many unnecessary additions. It was not intuitive at all. Because so many extra moves put in, often the instructor was off-beat. This is frustrating for any dancer. Also because so much extra steps, very hard to predict the next move unless you have done the song before. Instructors were all friendly. Ahn is a beautiful dancer and stayed on beat the full time. Downside to all instructors is that trying to perform for live recorded class and little actual instruction given. Take aways: good studio but not my preference. If you do trial, go for full month. Will take 3 to 5 classes to pick up choreography. Classes don't seem conducive to new or drop-in students. Much better if you are a member and come at least 2x a week. Not for me because classes won't improve my dance skills. Frustrating choreography because often time spent trying to figure the move which was being done in such an awkward way. If you are a hiphop or latin dancer, probably won't work for you. Classes were very good for cardio. On average 550 calories burned per class. Love the fact thay every class had a full arms song!!! Good luck studio as I love women run businesses!!! Tip: check out routines on Instagram and that will give you an idea of how they dance at this studio.

My overall confidence and energy are a lot higher too. I really like that the instructors are high energy and give you tips to keep you going, but also super understanding that you may need rests or can't keep up the whole time, as my first adult dance class this was super important to me for being able to jump in and feel comfortable. The location is also amazing, right off the Damen blue line, in a loft studio space with big windows and lots of natural light that seems to be right out of a movie. I always feel like the character from Flashdance walking up the staircase to class. For measure, I am a pretty athletic and go to the gym 3-4x a week, and here was my response to the following classes: The ballerina fight club gave me the best workout and towards the end I almost fainted but took a mini water break and was able to power through, has a combination of cardio with toning/sculpting. The Zi-Cardio was less of a workout and a bit easier for me, but I had a lot of fun and it was a mood booster(though this is a great exercise class for those with a lower threshold). The ballerina bum workouts are the hardest for me, not so much cardio but more so toning and sculpting specific muscle groups. I have a feeling the WERQ and hip hop classes I will take this weekend will be my favorite though-looking forward to trying them out, and definitely plan on signing up for more classes after my trial is done.
