May Electric Is your electric bill sky high? Six years ago mine was so I decided not only for my pocketbook, but for the environment I wanted to go solar. I got three bids. However, Neil Summers from May Electric did an outstanding job me on the differences between different companies. I still have my notes from six years ago and through this whole time whenever I've had a question or anything, they have been right there for me. When it came time to put on my new roof, no problem they came out, removed my solar panels, which took up very little space in my garage and once the roof was ready to let them put the solar panels back on they came out and did that. All for a very, very reasonable fee. I do keep an eye on my Enphase application and I must say they are very helpful when I have questions about that as well. So pleased to tell you that I highly highly recommend May Electric for your solar needs. They are really top-notch. Been trying to get a call back for weeks now. Sent certified mail, still no response. Obviously no interest in honoring the warranty.

I currently have a ground mounted solar system installed at my home. From the beginning my current system was undersized. This was due to my initial solar installer operating a shady solar installation business. I must honestly admit that my experience with the whole solar power trend hasn't been a pleasant one. My bad experience regarding solar power is not with the technology itself. But rather with the shady unprofessional solar installation companies that are out there. During the month of January 2026. I contacted May Electric Solar for an estimate to have a few more solar panels added to my existing system. I chose May Electric Solar because this company was recommended by Enphase. After numerous telephonic interactions with a sales consultant named Paul Dunn, I received a proposal to add additional panels. Listed on this proposal was just a total amount. As directed by an Energy Sage consultant, I asked Mr. Dunn for an itemized estimate that lists exactly what I am paying for. You can't just send me a cookie cutter proposal and expect me to just say ok, here's 15K without something more tangible where I can compare against other estimates. After asking for this itemized breakdown a few days passed and on January 9, 2026, I received an e-mail from Mr. Dunn. This e-mail stated that he consulted with the owner of the company named William May and they decided to withdraw their proposal. Now on the surface of this matter, I find it to be very comical because them withdrawing their contract doesn't hurt my feelings one bit. I can only imagine the pressure and stress of worrying about keeping a business afloat whereas some of us are retired and in a great financial situation. I suppose Mr. May thinks his company is the only company that can install solar panels. However, what is concerning is the fact that Mr. May had a problem when I asked for an itemized breakdown. I was told by Energy Sage whenever a company has an issue with providing a potential customer with an itemized estimate turn around and walk away. In closing, I want to do business with a company that values relationships. I want to do business with a company that has empathy for its customers, especially after I told Mr. Dunn about my horrible experiences with SunPower and my previous installer. Not to mention, I am a cash customer, and I have no need for financing. This company strikes me as the kind of company that only allows certain types of people to ask questions. I proudly served my country and then traded in one uniform for another and further served in my community. May panels have stopped reporting to my enphase box since hurricane Milton. Once i realized this i call May's. After trying some troubleshooting they recommend it still was not working. I called back a few days later someone was supposed to come out in the afternoon. No noe show up. Left a message with the answering service. No response. Called again the next day. They said for sure some one would be here today 1/24/25 between 1 and 5. No one showed up. This company has gone down hill since our instilation in 2019. Left a message with answering service again. Great communication with the company. Came out and installed the system in one day, cleaned up all their trash. Had to come out the following day to finish wiring up a relay and complete the inspection with the county. System was installed in November and has been working great. Highly recommend read more

Don't choose May Electric Solar. They have been unresponsive to inquiries. May Electric Solar installed a 30 panel system on my home in March 2022 that went online in May 2022. It was rated at 11.4 kw and was estimated to offset my electric bill by 83%. The Enlighten monitoring company indicated that it has been fully operational. But my FPL electric bills are higher than I expected. In July 2023, I sent an email to the company asking them to evaluate the production of my system. I'm questioning whether the panels are operating at max efficiency; whether they should be re-positioned on my roof to be more effective; and/or whether I should install additional panels to offset my current/future electrical usage. My May responded immediately, and said he would review my system and advise. But that was July 2023, and I didn't get an answer. As of Jan 2024, I have now asked FOUR TIMES for a response to my concerns. I have heard nothing! read more

I have not interacted much with electricians before, and even less so with solar panel installers, so I do not have much in the way of comparison. I am, however, still very impressed. I have dealt with various salespeople for solar, and working with the team from May has been the best experience, which earned them the final sale. From the beginning, I have found everyone at May Electric to be extremely responsive, prompt, friendly, and courteous. They came to my home, assessed my situation, discussed the options and benefits, and also set expectations so that I was clear on what would happen in the first 30 days, 6 months, a year, and so on. I asked for more features/options than I needed, and instead of taking the low-hanging fruit and closing the sale, their team provided other alternatives and guidance that saved me a nice sum of money. It was a great display of integrity, which set the tone for the rest of the process. My project was not flawless due to some issues with my electrical panel. The equipment was very old and became hazardous. The team at May Electric, including Mr. May himself, was very quick to respond to my issue (even late in the evening). They were also quick to identify a fair solution that kept the lights on and kept my family safe. The issue was not directly related to the solar panels that they installed, but I am incredibly grateful for their prompt response and sense of urgency. Projects rarely follow the happy path, and it is how you deal with any challenges or setbacks that show your character. I have truly been impressed by May Electric. read more

May Electric was good on the installation, but from the get-go I was worried about the company. The owner William May scheduled 3 appointments during that time and FAILED to CALL nor SHOW for them. The system is a ground mount system and we discovered in September 2021 that the ground was thru the house- no Earth ground at the ground mount. Lightening hit the ground mount system, and yes May Electric did provide the Envoy panel at the internet cost. During this time William May scheduled 2 more appointment, and yes they did NOT SHOW or nor CALL. I ended up buying an Ohm meter and figuring out the problems. My wife and I replaced wiring and other issues on our own time and expense. When I contacted the Citrus County Building Department, they informed me according to the engineer design, the gound mount did not require a Earth ground. The officer did say that if an Earth ground had been installed, my losses would have been substantionally less. I wonder how much I would have saved since the damage exceeded 10 K. BLUF: In my opinion: 1. William May is notorious for no-call and no show in my experience.-5 documented times. Why is his time more valuable than mine? We waited over 30 days for him to come out, and he NEVER did. 2. If you have a system, either ground mount or roof, insist on a seperate Earth ground- - a minimum $30.00 expense but huge potential for to mitigate damage. When the lightening hit my ground mount, the lightening was funneled back to my main panel- burning breakers, well pump, and other systems. 3. You will not see anything below a 5 star review for May Electric on energysage.com I placed a 4 star review at the ground mount installation finish due to the repeated no-call and no show and the energysage.com web service never posted it. 4. If lighteniing does hit your system, Willian May told me that all warranties are void. 5. Mr May said the lightening, if hits again, would be "confused: since I installed Earth grounds at the ground mount. I researched at least 8-10 different solar providers before I settled on May Solar in Hudson FL. The contributing factor for my choice was that in 2020, May Solar was chosen by the Orlando Solar Co-op as the vendor of choice. The Co-op has very strict guidelines when selecting a vendor and I saw that excellence in my project. My experience with May Solar was stellar from the smooth sales process, to the excellent pricing, to the superb installation and using the best solar panels on the market. Highly recommended for your project. I was treated like a valued customer throughout the entire process. The salesperson (Neil) was responsive to my needs and really seemed to want to ensure my experience was the best. . Not to mention the owner of the company (William) was overerseeing the entire process, so I know that he has a vested interest that all his customers get individual attention and that he ensures the customer are VERY satisfied. This is not my first time posting negative comments about May Electric. I bought a house in Orlando that has Solar Panels installed by this company. Throughout the 3 years of doing business with this company, I have had multiple negative experiences. Perhaps it is because they are based in Hudson Florida, which is about 115 miles from my home. Perhaps when my Warranty covered Panels need service, I am low priority on their schedule. Perhaps it is because they are a small company and are understaffed (I have been told this several times by their customer service). All I want this time is to have one malfunctioning micro converter fixed. After being told that they are extremely busy and will not be able to provide service for 2 to four weeks, I am still waiting 8 weeks later. They called 6 weeks ago and said they would be out that Friday and never showed up. When I called 4 weeks later, they rescheduled for the following week, only to call and cancel the day of scheduled service. We are now going on 8 weeks and I have not received any type of follow up. When I had my roof replaced last year, they came out and removed the panels and returned promptly when the roof was finished. This was excellent service which of course I paid for. Even though they left a cordless drill on my roof and didn't come back to get it until 2 months later when two micro converters malfunctioned. It's only fair that I share my experience with anyone who is thinking about doing business with this company. I posted a negative comment last year on the company's FaceBook site, and the owner contacted me the following day to schedule service. He then asked me to change my review, which I did. Sorry May Electric, not this time! I'm done calling you. You call me when you can assure me that you are not too busy to come out and fix the panel....and actually show up.
