I heard alot of great things about Maximus and decided to give it a try. I am very selective about the salons which I choose because of the potential headaches which may surface from a bad experience. I've tried most of the top notch salons in Vancouver and Maximus Barber Shop definitely ranks up there! I made an appointment beforehand and arrived about 10 minutes in advance. When I arrived at the Coal Habour establishment, I was pleased with the warm reception which I received. Max (short-form for Maximus) was finishing up with a client but took a minute to greet me and offer me a drink - a selection of non alcoholic beverages, beer and wine. Wow...this is refreshing to have such great service for a local business. I accepted a glass of red wine which tasted quite nice and full bodied. This definitely gave me a good impression as a start because it is rare to see this level of service in Vancouver (or Canada for that matter). It is only in very exclusive salons which offer this type of complementary drinks. :) I was very pleased with my hair cut and styling. He trimmed just enough to remove the dry ends but used some type of product to give my hair that shine and sleek look. I should have asked him what it was....oh well, next time I guess. Since I have very long hair half way down my back, Max also provided some suggestions as to how to keep my hair vibrant and soft, to bring out more of the shine within. This was a blessing in disguise because I wash my hair every day after my workout sessions - which makes it challenging to avoid some level of damage. Laura styled my hair with large curls which looked very sexy. :) The price was very reasonable, for the quality of service and professional cut. Let's just say that I left a really good tip afterwards! I also purchased my refill of the Moroccan Oil from the salon. He had a good selection of high quality hair products for my daily needs. I will be coming back here again within the next few weeks for a follow up trim. I usually frequent the high end salons in Yaletown and downtown - but I prefer the personable and professional service here instead. I've been visiting Maximus for my haircut since I relocated to Vancouver. Once I found his fine establishment two years ago, I stick to it for a number of reasons. - Maximus constantly maintains a incredibly friendly and professional manner, and takes time to acquaint himself with each client. Amiable staff, too. - He always accommodates to client's schedules, so it's easy to make appointments. - He is very knowledgeable with hair of different qualities and attributes, and plans the styles accordingly. The results are consistently satisfactory, at least for me and the people I've heard from. - Convenient location at the heart of Coal Harbour. Easy to access from anywhere downtown. - Very reasonable price. I have to confess I don't generally write reviews, but for a fine local business like Maximus', I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone live or work within the vicinity, or really anyone who would care to drop by Coal Harbour for some yachting, dining or even a pleasant walk. read more

I visited Maximus Barbers recently from a friend referral. I was pleasantly welcomed to the shop by a very nice girl called Pamela. I was made feel very comfortable and at home. A really clean barber shop, beautifully located in Coal harbour with amazing scenic views and close to the city. I asked for a tidy up and styled haircut. The Hairstylist was very personable, attentive and highly skilled with regarding my requests to what I wanted for a haircut. The level of customer care was extremely professional and I was made feel at ease at every moment. The attention to detail was outstanding and the atmosphere was really calm. Also the Hair Stylist was very funny and made the experience very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this Barber shop for its professionalism, superb customer service, highly skilled Stylist. I starting going here for haircuts when I worked very nearby. I no longer work in the neighbourhood but I'm still a loyal customer years later. It seems these days men have to choose between getting their haircut in an expensive salon that caters mostly to women or one of the new hipster barbershops complete with hipster attitude (tattoo anyone?) Maximus is a refreshing change. The prices are reasonable and it has that feel of a community meeting place that recalls the barbershops of old. Max the proprietor treats you like an old friend after just one visit and the same goes for his employees. The haircuts are consistently good and they will follow your guidance when you want something in particular. When the cut is over, one of the ladies will treat you to a hot eucalyptus towel and won't rush you out the door. If you're looking for a friendly place to get a haircut that isn't hard on the wallet, Maximus is the place for you. read more

I don't understand why people are rating 5 for this saloon. I made an appointment for my son with Max. When we went Max was not there, his assistant said max is not in today, I told him that I made appointment with him. He said I can give you nice hair cut don't worry, I asked him I want undercut style with very good fading for my son, He start to shaving , I told him several time that it seems too short and he responded me , please let me finish and then you will see. I noticed that he is not doing good job. Any way he finished, I can say he shaved completely my son's hair with number 0. We were so mad and angry but I could not say anything since we couldn't do anything. This saloon is very unprofessional and I really don't understand why people giving rate 5, may be they never had a good haircut. I've been to lots of barber shops in vancouver, Maximus is hands down the best one I went. I really like the location it's located in heart of Coal Harbour and it's very convenient for people to go to. I personally got my haircut from Max, he know exactly how i wanted my hair to be cut. The other people who work for him are good at what they do as well. As soon as you walk in someone offers you a beverage you have a choice between alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Max and his staff are super friendly and will talk to you while you get your haircut. You don't feel rushed at all once your haircut is done you can still sit and enjoy your drink. I highly recommend this barbershop Max and his staff turn the whole haircut experience fun rather than a chore. read more

While my wife and I were visiting Vancouver last week I decided I could use a trim and found Maximus near our hotel. I walked in and was promptly seated at a chair by Danielle. Max came in and offered me a beer, which I've decided is now required when I get my hair cut. Danielle gave me a great cut and while we were chatting with Max, who really made my wife and I feel at home at his shop, my wife decided to have Max color and trim her hair. He ended up doing a great job as well. Great service and all done at a very reasonable price, this was one of the best experiences I've had at any salon or barber shop. Max, who is the owner of this shop, is definitly an amazing hair stylist. He cut my hair and my hair chaged completely defferent. He is the first man stylist (I always asked female stylist to cut my hair because I felt uncomfortable with male stylist for 25 years!!) However, he changed my mind. We had a great conversation while he was cutting. He knows some Japanese language, haha. whenever he touched my hair, he was so cautious that I feel comfortable. Of course, the completed hair style was perfect. That was the best experience at a hair salon for my 25year's life! I strongly recomend everyone to try this special shop:) read more

I'm 37 and have definitely gone through my share of barbers/stylists. I stumbled upon Max's after my previous stylist decided to stop serving customers from her apartment without any notice. I sat down in Max's chair and told him what I liked and he did it even better than what I was expecting that day. Out of the 5 places I've patronized in Vancouver and Surrey, Max has styled my hair better than anyone. Also, with the extras that are offered: beverages, shampoo, after rinse, hot towel, and friendly smiles, I now call getting a haircut "a treat not a chore". I love Maximus! I go every month to get my hair dyed and or cut. Max is the best barber around coal harbour. He takes his time with every client. He serves you a drink and he is very warm and welcoming. Linda is another stylist. She is fantastic with haIr and gives hot towels to most of her customers. The shop is beautiful and it is a real pleasure to hang out at. I'll never go anywhere else! I have been going for years and this is my first review. If you're wondering where to go choose Maximus. I have been visiting Maximus now for about a year. Not only is the shop and atmosphere tight and friendly, the actual service is incredible. Lynda not only consulted me on what works well for my face/head shape, but also had great recommendations for my facial hair as well. I have not been disappointed once. They provide service above and beyond anything I've experienced anywhere else, hands down. This review is long overdue, especially since Max has been my hairstylist for 24 years. (I joke sometimes that this is my longest relationship. ) Maximus always feels like a neighbourhood place in the best way, and that's because of Max's great humour and friendly demeanor. Absolutely thrilled with the haircut and style i got recently. As soon as i walked in i was welcomed and offered refereshments and treated very well. The salon uses high end hair products which leave your hair feelling rejuvenated , fresh and healthy. I was recommended by a customer of mine and i will be a regular there. Came here for the first time today ... walked out VERY happy!! My hair is very thick and curly so I am always nervous about getting my hair cut by someone new. Max did an amazing job and really took the time to make it look good. The staff here are super friendly and very good people. I really enjoyed my time here. I've been going to Max's place for three years now, and I've never had one bad experience. I've lived in different places and have tried nearby shops once or twice, but no one delivers what Max can do. He's always friendly, the service is top quality, and the coffee is good too! I moved to Vancouver from Ontario and tried this barber shop on my long commute home to Squamish. I get the best haircuts, and I look amazing when done. The lady's really like it. However, I commute and drive over an hour to Maximus for every cut because not only do I get a great cut, but they have the best customer service and I always feel like I'm talking with friends and family when I am there. This place is great. I get a perfect haircut from whoever I see there every time. They've got a nice patio where you can enjoy a beer or coffee if you're early, everyone is very friendly and funny, and there are all around good vibes.
