My tour was brought here for lunch before heading to the salt mines. Our tour group had prebooked…read moretwo tables for our group. Which is was helpful since this place tends to be busy due to the convenience of the location. Good: - Fast service - Located near the salt mine Bad: - I had asked our waitress about the food before ordering my meal. I have food intolerance issues to dairy and gluten. I had translated this into Polish (from English) to explain. I had picked out a few meals that I figured shouldn't be a problem making gluten free and dairy free. She confirmed the chicken meal would work and I had also ordered a baked potato. The baked potato was, however, were small potatoes that I assume were cooked in butter later on since my stomach didn't feel right afterward. She also didn't speak with the chef like other waitresses have in other European countries. Most waitstaff doesn't know all the ingredients that go into prepping. - Food in general was meh. My chicken was overcooked and it was weird since I got my meal within 5 minutes of ordering like the rest of my table. My husband ordered the sour soup which he loved and said it was very flavorful. However, he also ordered the dumplings and complained of that it was not cooked enough and tasty doughy. - Getting our check was hard after we ate. We got attitude from the waitstaff when asking for the check. Once asked they only had our check and not the two other couples at our table checks so they could pay. They eventutally got it after they asked when we paid for our bil.

Because we are tourists and the novelty of eating lunch 900 feet underground was irresistible we got sucked in. Here's the thing - the food isn't terrible and the prices aren't that bad either. I had meatballs in a mushroom sauce which were quite tasty. You can also get beer for a pretty reasonable price and I'd recommend having one or two before braving the super scary elevator to the surface. It's cafeteria style, there's free wifi so you can text people from 900 feet below (I did!) and they take credit cards.

My wife and I have been in Poland for over a week and we wanted a Polish meal a little different…read morefrom typical Polish cuisine and we were very pleased with this restaurant. The service was very good. We took the recommendation of our waiter for food selection and his recommendations were excellent. My wife had a beef dish that tasted like hangar or flank steak. It was very tasty. I was more adventurous and chose the black pudding, something I have never had before. It also was very good. Puff pastry for dessert that we shared. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I wish I had room for more, like the honey melon & Rosette de Lyon or the beef tartare. Or any of the "sweet endings" like the mascarpone & summer fruits mousse. The service was very good; the laid-back European approach but with my server making herself visible if I needed anything. All I had to do was smile and she was right over. With the menu's wide variety, I'll have to come back at least once more before I head home and taunt my wife because she missed out on the duck leg confit, which I know would've been her first choice. If you enjoy French cuisine or would like to try it for the first time, ZaKlada is worth trying!

This is the kind of restaurant that we Germans invented the word "Gemütlichkeit" for - which…read moredoesn't exist in English, but which roughly translates as snugness or cosiness. When you walk in to the restaurant, you're engulfed by wood...seriously: wooden ceilings, wooden walls, wooden tables and wooden chairs & benches. The waiters run around in traditional Polish clothing and it's all so stereotypical...but also fun in a way. On the day that I came here it was snowing and so the warmth that this place gave off, was exactly what I needed. I came here with a Krakowian colleague of mine (does that word even exist?) and he said that this would be the kind of place that you would not go as a local with other locals, but you would take visitors here, as it kind of oozes of this old-world feel and in a way represented the old Poland. Which - in other words - means it's a touristy place, but I didn't care much about that, as it was the middle of winter and there weren't any tourists around anyway. Foodwise, I'd give this place 3 stars - it was ok: heavy food, that definitely reminds me of the Bavarian/Swabian cuisines: duck, red cabbage, dumplings, etc. (This showed me again how much we Germans and Poles actually do have in common.) But it was alright and definitely hit the spot...plus, in conjunction with some good beer and a free shot of schnapps at the end, I was happy as a cow! In short: this is definitely a place I would come back to as it is just so damn gemütlich!

My daughter and I walked over on a beautiful evening and found out why it was recommended. Old world authentic charm, large beers, great food, beautiful setting.
