As deli's go Maxie's is pretty average in terms of its offerings and prices, but they have a friendly staff who don't skimp on the ingredients. We were passing through town on a trip and just wanted a sub to split. Order a turkey sub and couldn't believe how much meat they piled on. They were efficient and friendly. The roll was good and held up well, but nothing special. I would definitely go back next time I'm passing through. read more

I was very impressed with Maxie's Deli! I needed catering on a Sunday morning. They typically open at 11:00am on Sunday. But, they were willing to have my catering ready at 10:30am. I had 10 large sandwiches and 2 salads...everything was great! I would highly recommend them!! read more

For as long as I can remember, Gil's Delicatessen was my go-to spot for sandwiches in Rutland. Recently I heard about Maxie's Deli and figured I'd give it a try. I went during lunch on a weekday and was able to find parking on the street. There is not a designated lot for Maxie's so parking might get tricky depending on when you go. I ordered the Italian sandwich (one of my favorites) and it was enormous! Unwrapping it when I got home, I could not believe how much meat was on the sandwich. There had to be 2 pounds of ham, bologna, and salami, along with shredded cabbage, tomatoes, banana peppers, and white onions. It was daunting to even attempt to eat and it lasted me for both a full lunch and dinner. I was so impressed that I had to try Maxie's again but this time there was less meat, suggesting the first sandwich was not the norm. Still, it tasted great and I look forward to trying some of their other sandwiches. read more

My favorite sandwich place in Rutland. Ever since the new people bought it, it's turned a new leaf. It's not like walking into a dark dungeon anymore. The shop is very clean, bright, and the staff are generally friendly. You can't beat the prices. You get a ton of meat on the sandwiches. They don't have as many toppings as some other places, but they carry the main stuff. I wish they had avacados. Try a popper (pepper stuffed with real cheese and ham, kept in awesome olive oil). They're $1. I always stock up on yesterday's rolls. I think I get a bag of 12 for a buck and freeze them. They make great garlic bread. read more

Ordered a "hot Italian grinder" - the only thing "hot" about it was the peppers!! The meat was disgusting - 1/2 piece of salami was the only thing I could recognize and some other kind of meat that looked like bologna with some funky stuff in the middle -unfortunately which there was a lot of that! Maybe two extremely thin pieces of unripe tomato-supposed to be cabbage in there but maybe 8 strands that were so thin they looked like lettuce!!! Very small piece of provolone cheese and a couple of dill rounds. This is the first and definitely will be the last time we order anything from there! My wife and I have purchased food at Maxi's for over 30 years. We usually get subs and salad about once per month. Our last couple of orders were "not up to par" as usual. Not really "packed" with meats as they normally do. Vegetables were only so so as well. Not sure what the problem is with Maxi's. We will try again, but three strikes and you are sout. read more

I am hesitant to write this because I feel like this place- despite having been opened a long time- is still a hidden gem. Their sub rolls are so good, the veggies fresh, they use a ton of meat (too much for me, I take almost half of it off and save it for my dogs), and their smoked turkey with provolone and cranberry mayo is sooo good! It is around the corner from my work, so I go all of the time, and on the rare occasions there is a line- they move through it pretty quickly. No seating, which I don't mind, but that could be a deal breaker for some. I used to be a Gills devotee, but the constant lines and waiting (even for pick up) and the fact that they only take cash- has seriously deterred me. I am a Maxie's convert!!! read more

This town is divided by people who love gills and people who love Maxie's. Me, I love Maxie's for the amount of choices they have for their meats and I think the quality of their meet is better. I will admit that gills handle better bread but Maxie's will make up for that with the amount of meat they stack on every sub! I can order a large and make a second sandwich out of the amount they give me. The staff are hard working and friendly and like to show off by remembering your favorite order! read more

Very rude. The last two times that my husband has gone in they have been very disrespectful. Today, he watched one of the ladies that worked there drop a piece of meat on the floor, pick it up, and put it back in someone's sandwich. She didn't ask him what kind of cheese he wanted on his sandwich, threw on provolone cheese, then when he asked for mozzarella, she rolled her eyes. He asked if they had salt and pepper, and she looked at him and was like "Well Yeah!." Like he was stupid. His sister was with him, but they didn't realize they were together and began gossiping about him as soon as he left the store. The worker was saying how the lady had done nothing wrong and how she knows his mom, his mom had been in there 3 times that week, and how he had mental issues. He doesn't have mental issues and his mom hasn't even been in there once. The time before the lady was also very rude. Rolled her eyes, slammed the freezer door, and was even disrespectful to her boss. Her boss made the excuse that she was just having a bad day. He has always preferred their subs over subway, but we refuse to support a business that treats people so disrespectfully. We will not be going back. read more
