Worth checking out if you're in the middle of a renovation or tackling a DIY project. This ReStore…read morecarries a solid selection of structural items like cabinets, doors, tile, and other building materials that you won't usually find at other donation-based shops. They also stock new items (like paint brushes, tape, etc.) needed to complete the project. As with any thrift store, the inventory can be hit or miss, and I did notice that pricing on many items was on the higher side (sometimes close to what you'd pay for new pieces on sale). That said, there are definitely bargains to be found if you come at the right time.

I used to love shopping at ReStore--whether for home improvement projects, film sets, or anything…read morein between. It was a great place to find affordable, secondhand treasures. However, today's visit left us completely shocked by the prices. I understand that costs have gone up everywhere, but this was beyond reasonable. A wobbly, scuffed, and dented table for $125--with no chairs? A single outdoor chair for $99, when Lowe's sells two for $135? A used sink pedestal for $65, and a sink (without a faucet or plumbing) for $45? A door for $135! For comparison, just last year, we bought a beautiful leather La-Z-Boy couch and loveseat set here for $250. The drastic price hike is disappointing, and frankly, it makes the store feel less like a community resource and more like an overpriced thrift shop. I truly hope they reconsider their pricing because I'd love to continue supporting ReStore--but not at these rates.

CCI provides four types of highly trained assistance dogs (service, facility, skilled companion and…read morehearing dogs), free of charge, to those in need. They have a gorgeous 8 acre treed campus in Ocoee that serves the entire Southeast region of the United States. This is an organization you have probably seen and heard of, thanks in part to their massive backing by Anheuser-Busch/SeaWorld. You may have also seen their booth at a local event of even seen a puppy raiser out and about socializing and training a future service dog. Many years ago I volunteered for this organization and have worked with some of their "release dogs" (dogs that didn't make the cut and were adopted out). They utilize labs, goldens or mixes of the two. They do a great job in the community and provide a much needed service. It's great to have this organization in our backyard. You can tour the facility on Tuesdays at 10:30am or 2pm. Stop by for a tour, volunteer some time (raise a puppy, perhaps?!?) or give a gift of money. You'll be rewarded by becoming involved with this group.

As a puppy raiser for CCI I can't rave enough about this organizations and the amount of GOOD they…read moredo in this world! This facility is home to furry heroes with big paws and even bigger hearts. The people that volunteer their time are some of the nicest people I have ever met. The staff (especially LeAnn) love their job and make you feel comfortable and confident if you ever have any questions. So happy to be on this journey and hope to make a difference in the future!

End world hunger. End malnutrition. Close the waste loop. Teach others how to live sustainably…read more Dine alfresco on the farm (more on that below.) Do Good Farm located in Winter Garden, near the Roper YMCA, is doing more than good. They are changing lives across the globe, all while reducing our carbon footprint through regenerative, sustainable farming practices. Their small 1.5 acres farm is home to a luscious food forest, goats, chickens, hydroponic crops and so much more! They use no-till farming practices and no chemicals anywhere on the farm. The food grown is free of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and harsh fertilizers. According to Owner/Operator, Josh Taylor (owner of HouseBlends Cafe in Ocoee) they are able to harvest foods year round and are partnering with communities across the world to help train them in these sustainable practices - hoping to end world hunger. Yes, they do offer a CSA where you can fill a crate every other week with fresh produce and eggs straight from the farm! BUT even more exciting than clean eating is their DINNER BELL. Do Good Farm hosts The Dinner Bell al fresco dining experience a few times a year in the "cooler" months. We attended the November 2020 Dinner Bell and were blown away by the beauty of this small but mighty local farm! We were greeted with a lovely cider spiced from their allspice plant on property. This is an interactive dining experience starting with a self-guided tour as you follow the romantic fairy lights through the food forest to two stations offering hot appetizers and wine pairings. Listen for the dinner bell and make your way to the main stage where Chef/Owner, Josh Taylor, prepares the two entree courses LIVE while also speaking about their mission and food practices (for example, why the grind the whole wheat grain to make flat bread and retain nutrients, etc...) Each course is served with a very nice wine pairing (Conundrum, Dreaming Tree, Josh, and others.) The sweetest part of the night is dessert served fireside, under the stars and beneath their gorgeous Neem tree (nature's bug repellent.) They highlight which ingredients used in each dish are from the farm - it seemed to me that more than 85%, maybe 90%, of the ingredients used were harvested directly from Do Good, cooked a served to us that day. The staff was so gracious, welcoming and worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail was on point. And as if trying to end world hunger wasn't thanks enough, each guest took home a "giveaway" - fresh farm eggs tied with a bow. The food was delicious and I even felt great the next morning even though we stuffed ourselves that night; which is a true testament to the quality of the food served. I cannot recommend enough that you go and experience Do Good Farm yourself! They offer farm tours, volunteer opportunities but if a lovely night out is your thing, sign up for the Dinner Bell! The proceeds from their CSA and The Dinner Bell go directly to their mission and to continue their work locally on the farm. We will be back to see what the evolving Dinner Bell menu produces in the Spring! Check out their website www.dogoodfarm.org for tickets and information!
