Quick and easy to order. You can peruse the aisles of the market while waiting and buy groceries or accompaniments for your meal.

Visited Hangari on Saturday evening to try their renown Kalguksu with some friends. I've known that…read morespecific parking lot/strip mall to be a nightmare parking wise, so I bit the bullet and used the on-site valet. There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

The food is so delicious and for a reasonable price. Specifically, the skewers after you get a drink. I always eat the pork belly skewers and the beef short rib. The best part about it is that they leave the stick out of it, so it just comes as a plate of meat. My favorite is the Korean Tteokbokki with Ramen noodles. It is so well seasoned, and it is a guilty pleasure of mine. It also has many pieces of kimchi. The corn cheese is yummy and great as a side of anything that you get there. They also give you a free cabbage soup to start that is so flavorful in itself! I also love the ambience as well as the decorations and set up of the restaurant

The valet guys were really nice and friendly. Service was good for how busy they were. Services were well informed when we asked questions. It was our first time there, and had lots of questions. Food was good, not great, but food quality matched the price of the food. In order to order from the skewers menu, we were told we had to buy at least one alcoholic drink. I wasn't planning on getting a beer that night, but I did. Inside the restaurant, it's low comfy lighting. I did not take pictures of our food because of the lighting. I didn't want to mess parties around us by hitting them with the flash. We enjoyed our meal cell phone free. Dan Sung Sa was even busier after we finished our meal. With so many options in KTown, I would not consider going back for date night, but would when going in a large group of friends. Dan Sung Sa was vibing with tons of positive energy and drinks.

True lovers of Korean cuisine -- this is the place for you: Yangji Gamjatang…read more The food is absolutely delicious, and the portions are generous and satisfying. Prices are slightly higher compared to some other places, but that concern disappeared the moment the dishes arrived -- they are definitely worth the money. The guys who served us truly deserved their tips. They didn't just bring out the food -- they genuinely cared and made sure we had a great experience. The restaurant is set up just like many places in South Korea -- no unnecessary glamour or fancy décor, just a strong focus on quality and authentic flavors. Highly recommended!

I give this restaurant a solid 3…read more I decided to try Yangji Gamjatang because I was craving korean soup and noodles. The plaza has mandatory valet parking which was $5 but they parked our car right next to the dumpster and we had to back up to get in which wasn't great. Not at all fault of the restaurant at all but valet is just something to be aware of for this plaza. The interior was a little small and I liked the ambience. The service was okay and we came for a late lunch around 2 pm so there was no wait. Owner or manager did talk to someone they knew for a part of our service and it was a deadish hour for customers so it was a little hard to flag someone down to pay. We ordered a variety of dishes: tonkatsu, blood sausage stew, mixed thin cooked noodle, and spicy sweet sour chicken. It's a little bit on the pricier side but I expected it from a mom n pop shop in ktown. There was a variety of banchan that I liked and the pickled radish was especially yummy. The tonkatsu and blood sausage stew came out first. My brother thought the tonkatsu was alright but a little dry. The blood sausage stew was the star of the meal. It's very hearty and a little heavy which I loved. It has a lot of components in it (pork blood sausage, leeks, black pepper, pork intestine, Napa cabbage, and lettuce) and it paired nicely with the complimentary white rice. I'd come back for this stew itself and give it a 5/5. The thin cold noodles came out next and it looked delicious but it was very saucy. I think it's to be expected with this noodle but I would've preferred less sauce so it would be more refreshing and less heavy. I thought the taste was decent and it went well with the cucumbers. The chicken came out last and it was disappointing. The image on the menu obviously looked better but for $23.95, the taste and the portion were not up to par. I kind of expected it to taste better than regular sweet and sour chicken and I think it was a little ridiculous to charge nearly $24 for that small platter. The sauce was tasty but the chicken was a little chewy and stringy so it just tasted average overall. There was a lot of leftover that we took home and the total meal for 3 costed $80. The whole meal was not bad overall but I wouldn't order the same items I got and would just try the stews.

Also important to note that rice was NOT included! The brisket add on came as a pre-cooked brisket that was added in after, as it didn't initially fit in the pot. And now it's on par with KFC (soggy, heavy, bready). And when food is this poorly executed, all of the little things that I used to consider acceptable tradeoffs suddenly get magnified: -deadbeat/snarky counter service -included sides that have never been any good (such a waste) -filthy tables that don't get bussed or wiped down -ridiculously long wait times (after ordering tonight, it was close to an hour before we got our food...during a very un-busy shift) This place has fallen so far from its original glory, if I were the owner, I'd shut down for a month or two and think long and hard about whether I have any passion left for this sort of business, and whether I have enough motivation to perform a badly needed reset.
