I really believe that a business can be successful and sustainable. 30% of the wood they use is reclaimed, they visit their wood suppliers to make sure they adhere to certain environmental and ethical standards, and they tell the consumer the 'furniture miles' a piece has travelled to reach the shop. Three small changes that can be make a huge difference. Walking into the shop the smells of oak and mahogany are intoxicatingly delicious, its nature. Not only is the showroom enormous but they also have sales throughout the year for ex-display items, you can grab a good deal (up to 40% off retail price) and have a clear conscious. The furniture speaks for itself, it is pompous, present and beautiful. As their slogan reads 'beautiful furniture should be sustainable' I am all for that!

I was not particularly interested in their more traditional kitchens and furniture, what caught my eye was these amazing hand made sculptures/ functional furniture pieces they have on the window display. From far away one of them is a wooden sac perfectly sculpted with a rope tied around the top, when you come closer it is a chest of drawers, nine drawers to be exact. Designers always manage to amaze me when they can create something that is not only functional but it is also aesthetically beautiful.

They have armchairs, bean bags, beds and chest of drawers that are all very well made and are all white, beige, bone or dark wood (for the boys). Somewhat boring for my taste, but I could see how many adults would like their products. The shop itself is quite big, with the section on the ground floor for children and a section on the lower ground floor for babies. They have some quirky designs such as the Tribeca cot (£583) but it is a bit too sterile for a baby or a baby's room. Their textile section is also one to look out for and they have some good deals at the moment, buy a duvet and get a cushion half off, but in general I couldn't see anything that truly rocked by boat.

There is a genuine difference in quality of the wood, hence the price. The most important thing for a good night sleep is a good mattress. Don't bother buying it here, there are decent ones and when you try them for a few minutes they are fine, but for a whole week (at my friend's house) they are not. However, two things I would recommend from here are: 1. A mattress topper. What? For £55 this will make a difference between a sumptuous good night sleep or a toss and turn 'sleep' They give that extra spring. 2. A bean bag. Lovely to sit on, play about with you daughter and many other uses, be creative! Although the colours are quite limited (chocolate and beige) change their look with an exciting throw. However, if you are looking for furniture that is not mass produced look somewhere else.

They always have sales and offers and the quality of the items is very good. I asked for my stuff to be delivered as I don't have a car and that was done through an external company, coordinated by the Futon Company. It arrived without a hitch and a lot of the stuff is flat packed - which I loathe - but those pieces are so handy, I'll do it with a smile, a glass of wine and a good Indie sound track. I quite liked the look of a few of 1950's American diner style kitchen stuff, cocktail shakers and drinks trolleys, that sort of thing but on this occasion I left as I came in. It's all about taste somewhere like this, it's eclectic and nothing will appeal to everyone but pop in, have a look around, something probably will.
