I came to Dr. Shea with a nerve-related injury after struggling to self-diagnose and work effectively with a local PT. I'm a powerlifter and was experiencing a strange numbness that would only present itself under heavy loads and at key points in movements. I decided to visit a Chiropractor by recommendation of a PT friend (not the person treating me). I chose this particular practice because I felt that at a self-owned practice, the practitioner is highly encouraged to provide the utmost attention to detail -- and I was right. Unlike other visible injuries, we're constrained by what I choose to convey as a patient and Dr. Shea's ability to 'feel' out potential problem areas. I'm beyond grateful of our ability to hypothesize together, test, and focus in on the root cause. Over multiple sessions with her, I was able to get to a place where I was comfortable under light load. Taking my responsibility to test movements and collect information allowed us to hone in on where the true underlying cause existed. We now have a good idea of which nerve is being compressed, where in the squat and deadlift movements is it being agitated, and how/why is my movement causing the unintended compression. Through that, I'm now back to the gainz with a plan to correct deficiencies and enter competition stronger than before. Thank you, Dr. Shea.

Since seeing Alexa, these incidents have become infrequent and overall my body feels much more in harmony. Recently I had a little girl, and at her 6mo appointment her pediatrician noticed she had slight right head tilt/torticullis. At my next appt with Dr. Shea I asked her about this and she offered to assess her! She did some gentle massage and offered me some exercises I could do at home with Porter to help loosen her muscles up. This was so wonderful and unexpected. I'm so thankful to be a patient of such a kind and talented chiropractor!

She has a sure and gentle touch, and a really extensive knowledge in a field where you can easily get by with a good grasp of the basics. She's kind, she's professional, and above all, she cares. I've seen her strive to give her patients the best care possible in a range of different situations, and she always impresses me with her gentleness. Another strength of hers is to look at the big picture of what's going on with my body, so that something bugging my hip may be playing out in two or three other places that might not have been apparent at first blush. Long story short, she's skilled, she's kind, and she is extremely knowledgeable and professional. And her prices are very in line with other chiros in this area. Thanks, Dr. Ellen, for such good care!!! (This review was originally posted on the yelp page for her office in Waltham, but for some reason that did not transfer over to her new yelp page. I LOVE her new location - so near good things like the walking path by the Charles River and a five minute drive from Russo's, the great produce store - so many ways to stay healthy with Dr. Ellen!)

My husband and I at the time did not have the money to invest in a new mattress. Most times I was sleeping on our 'less broken' couch, which was still murder on my back. Three days before Christmas of 2015, I bent down to get something out of our fridge, and I felt my lower back tighten up. By the time I got to work, I could barely walk and eventually had to be taken out of work on a stretcher due to back spasms so severe, I couldn't even move. I returned to work and to Dr. Wolk's care three weeks after the incident, and she has helped get my back back (ha) into tip top shape. I truly don't know what would have happened if it weren't for her gentle, expert guidance and care. Dr. Wolk is smart, kind, and funny - she not only knows her stuff, but she is wonderful to talk to about anything. Just a lovely person who will help you heal in the beat way possible!!

One thing I always try to do before writing a review is to read a bunch of the most recent postings…read moreon Yelp about any establishment. This place is strange because either people love it or hate it. No one is in the middle. Unfortunately, I'm on the hate it side. There are a few reasons. 1) The rolling thermal scanner technology. I don't buy it. How does someone rolling a device along my cervical vertebra suddenly going to get a reading on how my entire autonomic system is doing? I didn't even have to take off my shirt because he only rolled the device along the back of my neck. Also, I repeatedly saw readings on the screen that made me seriously question whether any of it was valid. 2) If you are scheduled for an appointment, then you should have an adjustment done. But at this place, they use their rolling thermal scanner technology to tell patients that their nervous system is functioning fine and that there is no need for an adjustment. Oh, by the way, you still have to pay the same price as if you went in for an adjustment. This is a practice that should seriously be investigated by health insurance companies. Medical doctors are billed according to specified codes of what they do. Is this place really going to tell me that using the thermal scanner without doing an adjustment is the exact same price as using the thermal scanner and also doing a spinal adjustment? 3) Any chiropractor who asks you for a lot of money up front is a chiropractor who is running some sort of game. It would be like a patient with chronic fatigue syndrome being asked by his/her primary care physician to pay up-front for the next 10 visits. The only type of medical professional who would ever do this is one who is not confident about holding onto that patient. 4) I know four people who went into this place for evaluations and treatments. Despite having different levels of problems ranging from just a little back tightness and shoulder pain (myself) to hip and back problems (my cousin) to moderate problems with premature arthritis (my cousin's friend) to fairly complex back problems from years of powerlifting (my gym buddy), all of us were put on the exact same treatment regimen of going to him 3 times per week for the first month, 2 times per week for the second month, and then 1 time per week for an adjustment plus 1 visit for an evaluation during the third month. This is kind of like me seeing a patient with a scraped knee, another one with a concussion, and a third patient with a broken leg and saying that they all require the same treatment program. 5) I don't like medical professionals who get defensive. I also don't like the feeling of getting set up. When I am asked to lean towards one side while an A-P (anterior to posterior = front-to-back) x-ray is being taken to assess any spinal curvatures and then the following visit the doctor tells me that my spine is curved as if my body was leaning to one side, then I will start carefully questioning that medical care professional. And as you can see from a couple of the other reviews, I'm not the only one who has noticed a certain defensiveness from this place. In the end, all four people I know (myself included) who went to Trevens Chiropractic have gone elsewhere and are very happy with our new chiropractors. If you go into a place and are going to pay your hard-earned dollars, then you need to feel comfortable. I'm lucky because I didn't walk into this place with serious problems, so maybe that helped me pay more attention to what they were actually doing rather than focusing on hope that relief was coming. Since going to my new chiropractor, I can tell you that a great chiropractor can really make a positive difference in your quality of life. But the only guarantee about a shady chiropractor is that he/she will lighten your wallet. Trust your instincts!!!

Oh boy. I didn't become suspicious of this place until my first "adjustment". I was pretty trusting…read moreat the initial visit when I met with the female doctor who seemed great. However when I came back and was told my treatment plan and then decide to read some reviews it all became very clear. This place is a very thinly veiled scam. I (just like several other negative reviewers on yelp) was told I had to come in 3 times a week for the first month (THREE TIMES A WEEK!!) and then 2 times a week for a month and then once a week for a month. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. That is completely absurd. And the fact that that is pretty much EVERYONE'S treatment plan is ridiculous. I have a fairly generous insurance plan that would pay for 20 visits a year. I was surprised they'd pay for any of it considering the research on the benefits of chiropractic care is still very much up in the air. So I wouldn't have even been able to make it to the end of the second month before I'd be paying out of pocket. I could barely contain my laughter about the rolling thermal scanner. Give me a break, please. I just, I can't.... I wonder if the female doctor and the very nice secretary are aware they are part of a scam this large. I'm sure the doctor must, which is a shame as she seemed very kind. I was there for about an hour and 15 mins for my first adjustment. I was taken very late, "adjusted" for 5 seconds and then forced to lay down for half an hour. During this time I watched an amazing number of people come in and out and all I could think was "holy sh*t they are just sucking people dry." I am not exaggerating when I say I saw at least 15 people on a Tuesday evening in the span of under an hour and a half. It would almost have been funny if it weren't so horrifying. I really hope people do their research on this place. I will never go back here and probably have been turned off to chiropracty as a whole as a result.
