I went to this shop for a quick tire change and oil change after blowing one of my tires. I live in the area but work in Oswego so I needed a quick fix. They didn't have my tire in stock and had to order it. That was fine until it took over a week to come in. When it finally arrived and I went to purchase the tire I had to wait for 20 minutes while they frantically look for my tire that they somehow lost. After finding the tire they tried to charge me $215 for a single tire, I was quoted at $160 when I ordered the tire. I ended up getting them back down to the price I was quoted at but it just makes me wonder how many others they have overcharged like this. I am very disappointed and will not return. read more

I have been a customer for several years now and they never disappoint. I scheduled an appointment last week to have my studded snow tires put on. I ended up rescheduling my appt. 3 times and they were always polite and accommodating. I didn't know if my snow tires were still good or if I'd have to purchase new ones. The manager told me they were still good, but the bands on 2 of my current tires were broken so in the Spring I'll need to purchase at least 2 tires. I'm thankful for his honesty and I never feel like I have to worry about being "over sold" on parts. read more

I've used them 3 times and never again. I switch my tires twice a year: summer to winter tires and back again. First time fine. Second time someone stole my Nitro/BMW tire valve caps and replaced them w/black plastic. Didn't notice at first, no way to prove it, but what thief would have replaced the caps? Third time; summer tires to snows; job completed, put summer tires, which were in bags into my garage for winter, my husband and I are the only people who have access to garage. 2 weeks ago I went to switch the tires again at another mechanic location. Two of the four summer tires have huge gashes and chunks out of them, I had used them for six months. There is no way I would have been able to drive on them to Mavis to be switched last fall. They obviously didn't use enough lubricant when switching the tires. Avoid at all cost. Dishonest and incompetent workers. read more

Wow...how absolutely messed up. Came in for a 10 am tire appointment..told the tires could be put on in an hour and a half..me and my husband go to the empire diner have breakfast, then spend and hour in the antique shop...almost 2 hrs later NO CAR TIRES ON OUR CAR! Then I ask my husband if the crowd of people were in the waiting area before we left for the diner..the MAVIS WAS EMPTY!! How can this be??? What happened?? Why did we waste almost 2 hrs in Herkimer while it's raining and we had to walk everywhere in the rain like village idiots..no not right! Get your acts together and service people as they come like you are suppose to. read more

Had my appointment scheduled at 3pm for inspection. At 352 I had to ask when my car was even going to be take in. At that point what I assumed was the manager so ok I'll just do it. Do better people have life's and can't spend all day waiting for jobs to be completed read more

No marks yes some clear coat peeling but not a scratch or dent on it. But after I visit this shop I have matching marks. This isn't the first time this shop has messed up or lied. I put some different wheels on my wives jeep some summer rims and tires, brought it in to have wheel alignment all the way around. Just had it inspected a week before. But they told me they couldn't do an alignment as my control arms rubber was gone and the joints were slapping around. Oh to top it off they said my shocks were blown out and leaking. Quoted me over 2000 dollars worth of work. Went to a mavis in utica who confirmed for me they were lying. Had the alignment done that day with no extra work. This is a cheap budget shop. Some people may know what they are doing but watch them closely and a second opinion never hurts. The only reason I trusted them to put my tires on my car recently is they were free purchased by the dealership I got the car from. They were not my first choice but free tires saved me 400 dollars thanks to the dealership, but I would not recommend nor will I ever go back to this shop. I'm not even gonna go after them for damage as they most likely would lie about it anyway. And I don't feel like arguing over something when it's my fault for going there. Tried to fool me once, damaged me the second time so that's on me. I highly recommend if you care about your vehicle the way I do avoid at all cost. They do not pay much attention nor do they take pride in their work. read more

I've tried this place now multiple times and there's NO rhyme or reason behind their schedule. This time I called ahead and made an 8am appointment. They open at 8. I told them I have an important appointment at 1pm. They assured me if I come 15 min before open I'd be seen right away for my tire change. It's now 11am and my jeep has still not been seen. There's two people that just walked in after me and were seen right away. They keep saying "I'm next." This place is awful. This is my final try going here. Never again. read more

These absolute scam artists changed every tire on my car when I had one flat, and never even called me, the owner to tell me what they were doing! Each of my tires is usually $75 installed through Walmart. My wife and I were staying at a campground and about to hit the road. When we packed up, we noticed a flat on the RV. I called Mavis and Shawn told us to come on down and he'd swap our tire for us. We had a full size tire on the back, so when we went there Shawn and his crew swapped them out for us for no charge! I had an 8am appointment, and when I arrived at 7:50 they told me they were going to call and let me know not to come in until noon, but they never called so I found out the change after arriving for my appointment. I told them noon wouldn't work for me so they had a guy come in at 11 to see my car. For this I was thankful, as they assured me I'd be out quick and be to work on time. I arrived at 10:40. They played with their balls until 12:45 when I came back telling them I had to go. They then gave me a list of things they needed to do and have yet to begin on my car, then named off three different outrageous prices. First they told me $700, then when I returned to the desk asking the price again they told me $400. I knew something was up, I think they were trying to play me because I'm a woman. They even referred to me as a "nice little girl." So I had my father call them and they told him all I owed was $155. They had my car done and outside IMMEDIATELY. Are you kidding!?!? Then the manager was rude and told me to tell my father they were "doing me a favor." Absurd. Lazy, sexist, unprofessional. I'll be returning to my old mechanic 40 minutes away because this experience was not worth the short 10 minute drive. I even spoke to a woman in the waiting room who had been there for the third time with the same issue on her car and they've yet to fix the problem. I love Mavis in new Hartford, NY... however, this post isn't about them. The one in Herkimer is awful! They overcharge and don't fix the problem. We have given them several opportunities to make us change our mind and every single time they just convince us how terrible they are. We didn't have the time to drive to New Hartford so after years of not going to herkimer, we decided to give them a chance. And they did exactly what they've always done. Told us one price, then went to pick it up and they gave us a different price and didn't even fix the vehicle. Should have never went there. 9 years of screwing us over is enough. As soon as we can afford to pay for our vehicle (because we dont have over 1000 dollars!) We will absolutely never return. read more

I've been to at least a half a dozen locations over the past 15 years. mechanics to Mavis and Herkimer are the most knowledgeable mechanics I have ever met. They always find a way to save you money which can be very helpful in these tough times. Charlie the manager is one of the best mechanics I've ever seen and I've witnessed him solving problems some real old dyed-in-the-wool Farmers couldn't figure out for themselves. I had a negative experience at Mavis. I came in for a tire repair and they then attempted to upsell me for other parts of the car that had been checked by the dealer recently . The manager who worked the desk was nice but the guy who kept coming out to add on prices was rude and critical when I denied his upsell. Then suddenly my tire repair became significantly more complicated and cost over 3 times the original discussed price. The whole experience was a lot more negative than other local car repair places which I will be returning to. read more

DO NOT BUY TIRES FROM MAVIS IN HERKIMER, NY, they are literally the most unprofessional place on earth! If I could give this place negative stars I would! My husband dropped my car off this morning at 9am for an urgent tire repair/4-tire replacement after finding our tire flat while we are in the Valley from out of town. Mavis told us it would be 2 hours, well 5 1/2 later they still haven't even looked at the tires! My husband has called, I have called, I then stopped in and Rick continued to tell me there are still 4 cars ahead of us! I have repeatedly told Mavis it is vital, I have an 8 hour drive to get my kids back to college and be home for work at 6am tomorrow morning, but still have 0 communication from Rick at Mavis. I had enough. So, I went back to Mavis and told them I'd like my keys back and Rick tells me I am next in line, with a nice smirk on his face. Thanks for nothing! I made an appointment to have my brakes that I bought there checked and have my tires switched over. I was told to be there as close to 11 am as possible. When I arrived I was informed it would be an hour before they could bring my car in. An hour and a quarter later I asked when my car would be brought in and was told in a couple minutes. Instead they pulled in a customer's car who didn't have an appt and got there later than I did. I asked the manager why and he didn't have an answer. Instead of having the technician pull out that car and bring mine in, he did absolutely nothing and just stood there looking stupid. I told him I would rather just leave. I drove over an hour to get there and wasted so much time. They need to replace that manager. Lousiest service ever. read more
