I've been here a bunch of times, but never really thought twice about talking about it until yelp came into my life. I'm glad that the city and county of Honolulu decided to create this green space in this section of Kaimuki - Kahala for use residents to use and enjoy. It's been here for as long as I can remember, enjoying it when I was a kid, running past it and sometimes through it during marathon training. And most recently, playing Pokémon Go here while enjoy the rest of the world greets us. Mauumae nature park comes complete with some trees, a park bench or two, and a nice big space to play with your pets, enjoy life, and escape the technology that we've been involved and intertwined for so long. It's always good to get out there for some fresh air and wide open spaces. The park is supposedly maintained by the good folks of the City and County of Honolulu and it's green practically year round. I usually see a lot of residents and just a piece of land that's begging to be enjoyed and played with. Many pets and their owners come here too, as well as families and individuals who want to chill here and enjoy the park for as long as time will allow. For me though, it's in my neighborhood and need to spend time here while I can - in between travel.
The overall experience here at the Mauumae Nature Park is as good as it can be. While many people can say it's just a park, it's so much more than that. While negative things can occur in parks, like crime and other stuff during the times many of us are sleeping, this park usually isn't the type that would draw the criminal elements, but you never know! The great part of this community nature park is that it's in my home neighborhood of Kaimuki. I can reach it by public transit or by simply walking. It's located by the intersection of 16th avenue and Noeau Streets - half way between the former Liliuokalani Elementary School and Kahala Mall. The atmosphere is as calm and casual as it is anywhere and there's sometimes families there in the early evenings to hang out and relax. It's a good alternative to those of y'all who don't want to be in front of the computer, smart phones, or just not in front of the television. Nature can be the best thing to experience, especially in this day and age of technology at your fingertips. Best part of this place is that it is free. No admission required or necessary. Only thing requested is to keep it clean and neat. Help everyone enjoy the park by not being a litter bug.
Parking options here usually isn't a problem, although this is a residential area, so parking is usually reserved for those who live in the area. There are some good spots, but ultimately, parking is a premium. Only good thing about this place is that it is free, free, free. I really do enjoy the outside and coming to the Muumae Nature Park is sometimes one of the best things to do, even if you are staring at your mobile device while doing so. For the most part though, I did enjoy the greenery that this park provides. Most people don't know about this park, unless you live in the surrounding area, or just know about this park's existance. It's a fine place to do anything, especially bird watching, yoga, or just living a peaceful existence after a challenging day at the office. Whatever you want to do here, it's yours for the opportunity. Just don't do anything illegal and you should be fine. Possibly the better alternative than the mall, if you don't care to spend money and want to kill time by yourself or with your family. I would definitely recommend coming here, if you have the time to do so. The park is well maintained and manicured and a place to stop off when life gets too congested in the big city life.
5.0 stars for the overall experience.
