Love the therapists, but the front desk staff just hung up on me 3x in a row! Really?! Can you not get answering machine for overflow calls?

Most of my complaints revolve around what I consider sneaky, dishonest (by way of omission) and…read morevery expensive costs to myself, the patient. First off, St Thomas is in-network for my insurance, but not 1st tier. I asked them to run my insurance before I went to my appointment because I was concerned about the cost. I went through great efforts to get to the appointment (pumped extra for several days prior and left the baby at daycare for the very first time, in addition to bringing my 4yo to the visit with me b/c she was sick and couldn't go to daycare that day). When I arrived, they had not checked my insurance. I looked online and saw that the average cost of a PT session for patients with insurance is $10-75. I figured that the upper end was pricey but doable, so I proceeded with the appointment. The PT student who evaluated me was professional during the exam, so I have no complaints there. At the end, they gave me a paper that explained how to do a proper kiegel, and how many repetitions to do them each day before the next visit. I was disappointed since I already know how to do kiegels and had researched a bunch of exercises to help with pelvic floor issues (including some very important things to avoid). They planned on doing biophysical feedback at the next session so I hoped that would be more beneficial. I had to re-schedule my 2nd appointment and, thankfully, got the bill before I went again. The charge for 1 session was $407.30, and I was responsible for $224.03! If I had known that I would have to pay $224 to be told how to do a kiegel, I would have never gone! They may have done a thorough evaluation, but I can't afford to go to follow-up sessions, so that first session was essentially useless. I called to see if I could get the price reduced, but was told they "do research to ensure a fair price" and that they could not lower their price. How is their "fair price" around 3x the upper limit of average? They offered to spread the cost out over the course of 12-months, which I respectfully declined. I don't want to have to pay for 1 useless session for an entire year...it would just make me more frustrated/furious each time :( They said I was "blessed" to be able to refuse the extended payment! I am blessed that this doesn't mean my family will go hungry this month, but I would much rather spend $224 on my children than on 1 helpless session! I am extremely upset that I was denied the opportunity to make that choice because they didn't run my insurance prior as I asked. Technically, this is my fault...I should have re-scheduled until they could tell me how much it would cost. My hope in writing this review is to help someone else avoid this same predicament.
