Everything was bright and easy to shop - though I was struggling to find t-shirts in my size. (Probably because it was around the holidays; a lot of middle sizes were sold out) Serious quality in everything they sell with t-shirts - especially ones that are printed ASAP to reference recent events in the world - being their big star product. You're supporting small business here as it's a Unionized shop and store, primarily from domestic suppliers, and a member of the Fair Labor Association. If I remember correctly, they primarily screen print from Des Moines, right here in Iowa. If you really want to know about all this nerdery, they actually have their exact suppliers and how they've certified and chosen them on their "About Us" on their website. Despite that, none of the prices are really all that high. I've bought way more expensive clothing from the mall. I love being in here, and I love their sense of humor on their products. They have their store as organized as it possibly could be with (unlabeled but clearly grouped) sections for things like teachers, readers, LGBTQA+, Midwest pride, pink pony vibes, Taylor Swift vibes, etc. Raygun primarily has t-shirts, magnets, stickers, post cards, mugs, and other home items to help showcase your interest or support of any of those things. Sometimes I wish it had a bigger selection of what they print on because it's hard to bring another t-shirt or mug back home when I already have so many. It's connected to the Books on Main in the back of the store, but they ask you don't bring merchandise between the two locations. No bathrooms available here.

Whoever is in charge of payroll should be made well aware that they are paying for at minimum 3 team members being less than helpful, not even willing to speak to their customer about the poor experience and 7 others hovering around their cash register. Also the staff was exceptionally nice to all guest. I think the best was when I was standing there a guest had said thank you to a manager he really didn't hear it and another member of the staff goes hey she said thank you and he stopped turned around and said I'm sorry I didn't hear that and said your welcome and have a great holiday. I walked in with an oversized hoodie and jeans on that had a tare in the knee and dry paint on them and spackles of paint on my hands that I didn't get off. They didn't treat me any different than the ones that were way more presentable. As I let her know what I was looking for she got me the right size without asking I use to be a 44 and down to a 31 in jeans. As I was trying on multiple jeans that I wanted again without telling her she found me multiple shirts that fit my liking. I walked out spending more then I wanted but again felt like I was the same as anyone else walking in the store as someone getting ready to go shopping at Walmart.

Books on Main is the "used books" version of The Nook bookstore (that only sells new books) across…read morethe street. They have similar availability and stylization between both stores. Impressively low prices (between $4 to $12 for most books I saw) with books in pretty solid shape. Honestly, after I saw a few books go for $18 at The Nook and then $8 over here, I'm not sure why you'd buy at The Nook (though the Nook was awesome too). Didn't see any stained covers or bent pages; the spines of the books are clearly "used" (no new book smells) here, but they're in really good shape. Staff was really friendly but left us alone to shop. I ended up picking up a few books, and I was happy to receive them in a cute brown paper bag as well (which I used to take out recycling today!). If you shop at Books on Main, you get a 10% coupon off a coffee across the street at the Reader Cafe (which is attached to Books on Main). Books on Main does not have a bathroom in it (unlike the Cafe and The Nook across the street). It is, however, attached to Raygun at the back of the store, allowing you to shop two stores without having to pop back outside. As a single semi-large room, the books here are very focused on popular fiction niches. You get lots of mystery thrillers, romance, and romantasy books. There's a very small section of cookbooks, non-fiction, and SciFi, but it's relatively clear that this book is focusing most on what sells best (i.e. your BookTok genres). Would come back in an instant.

Looks like Dark Vassal Gaming focuses pretty heavily on trading card games and trading card game accessories. I didn't see any board games or figurines or D&D stuff. While they were already sold out of the set we were looking for, the employee was super friendly and helpful and had a very extroverted personality. We ended up finding a different set we hadn't seen before, and we left feeling a bit jealous that this wasn't a place that existed a couple years earlier when I lived in the city. Everything we were browsing seemed to be sold at or pretty close to MSRP. Didn't see any price gouging.

This is rue21 store inside the Crossroads mall on the upper floor. It carries men's clothing, men's…read moreaccessories, women's clothing, and women's accessories. It does NOT carry the Rue21 Plus-sized line (not a single store in Iowa does!) However, they will accept online returns from your rue21.com purchase. They do carry socks and shoes, but the shoes are sized in "S, M, L, XL" instead of actually shoe sizes, so they may not fit everyone fine. This is a nice location. When they're super busy over the weekends, the clothing may not get folded correctly or the hangers may not be hung up in size-order. Most of the time, however, it's a pretty clean store - though it has a lot of merchandise in it, so it ends up feeling a bit crowded if there are a lot of people in the store. rue21 regularly runs sales and whatnot for half-off or 30%-off or so. It may be worth asking the cashier if any of those sales can be applied to your purchase. If you sign up for their e-mail newsletter online, you'll know. I hate paying full-price here because I know they regularly have these sales. With the half-off sale price, though, you can end up getting pairs of good jeans for less than $20, trendy shirts for less than $15, undies for $3-ish a pair, and surprisingly comfortable bras for around $8 each. It's not a very expensive store, but they do carry a lot of trendy clothing for very-affordable prices with the coupons. The staff is nice enough here. They mostly leave you alone, but they'll usually great meet when I come into the store. They're usually happy to answer questions, and while they seem busy or focused on what they're doing, they've never been rude to me. However, you should expect to take a bit of time to check-out. I rarely see both registers open at once, and they only seem to open them whenever there are 3+ people in line to check-out. Depending how many items each person ahead of you bought (and the sales associate does need to remove those security tags and refold on every. single. item), you might wait about 5 or 10 minutes to check-out here. It's usually closer to 5, though. Final thoughts: If you want affordable and trendy clothing that's pretty decent in quality, Rue21 is surprisingly good. I wish they carried their plus-sizes in-store, but they do not. They only go up to a women's XL in-store. It's a decent shopping experience, and while I'm not always fond of the trends they're selling, I've gotten some really cute clothing here.
