I have been a patient here during two pretty difficult (physically and emotionally) medical situations. Dr. Matoian and Melissa are truly wonderful health providers who want to provide a correct diagnosis, share with you any information you need, listen to your concerns, and answer your questions. They are so, so patient when I ask a million questions as my academic brain is bound to do, and they can break down medical jargon to the simplest of terms and draw diagrams to help you understand exactly what is going on. The bedside manner provided by these two is extraordinary. I am totally confident that I am in good hands with this team. On top of the wonderful providers, the other people in the office are phenomenal. The medical assistant I've seen every time, Vanessa, puts a smile on my face even during the most difficult times. Glenna, the nurse available by phone, is wonderful and quick to return phone calls. Shelly and the rest of the administrative staff are friendly and responsive and never grumpy if I ask difficult questions about scheduling. I have never been so pleased with a physician's office in my life! Dr. Matoian is on staff at Beaumont and works in partnership with six other doctors -- two of which I have spoken with on the phone during nights and weekends, and they were quick to call back and very helpful. Melissa has done work in high-risk pregnancy, too. If I didn't convince you that this is the greatest OB/GYN office of all time, you must have a phenomenal doctor already. I initially went to her for my child's lack of focus and behavior and what I received at the end was a serious gut infection that lasted over six months. Her protocol consisted of over 30 "natural supplements" per day, the majority, several times per day, for months, which by the way also costs a fortune. But don't ever complain about how much all these things costs because she will throw that in your face at a later time. It shifted my child's gut so significantly, that every board certified physician I consulted with, including pediatric gastroenterologists and functional nutritionists stated she should be held accountable for implementing such aggressive methods on such a little body. But wait, you are obligated to sign a 50 page contract that no one has the time to fully read and you are so desperate to help your child that you sign away your rights if she messes up. Lesson learned!!!! My poor child lost 10 pounds in a matter of two months, couldn't eat, sleep or attend any social events because of how ill he became. I trusted her and followed through with her protocol for months on end because "oh she had 4+ stars she must be good, right??" Not only was there ZERO improvement, but levels of colon inflammation that you would not believe. I put my child through hell and back with numerous appointments for months on end and I spent thousands trying to fix what she did. If you believe in holistic approaches, this is not what you are getting here. Rather, you are getting everything but the kitchen sink thrown at you in a "one size fits all approach" trying to see what will stick. If you want someone who will belittle you and speak to you in the most demeaning tone and make you feel like you have failed as a parent if you dare question the amount of supplements being given, then by all means. When I told her my child was getting more sick by the hour, she turned it all around like she's the one suffering and stated that my child's situation is causing her great stress and that I should email her instead, that she would get back to me another time because she's "going off the grid." Her EXACT words! When she finally got back to me, she continued to speak to me like I am the reason this is happening. I have never been so upset in all of my life. I cried and cried for months for what happened to my child because I entrusted my child in her care. Finally, after 8 long months and numerous specialists, my child is back to normal. My husband had back surgery in 2018 by a neurosurgeon here in Kalamazoo. That surgery needed to be…read moreredone within 2 months. Being naive about back surgeries we thought my husband was getting the best care he could. After the 2nd surgery failed miserably a friend suggested that we see Dr. Nicholas Shroeder at OSOC. Within minutes of meeting with us he explained clearly why the first two surgeries had failed. By this point my husband is in constant pain and can no longer stand up straight. Dr. Shroeder explained what he felt the best course of action was going to be for Tom's situation. Dr. Shroeder had the new pieces needed for Tom's back made specifically for him in France. The previous neurosurgeon had just grabbed any rods and screws within reach. That was what kept Tom from standing upright. The picture on the right shows the neurosurgeon placed straight rods in his back. Losing the natural curve is what kept him from ever standing straight and in excruciating pain. The picture on the left is what was needed to give Tom the ability to walk and have a good quality of life again. This shows the difference between an excellent surgeon and one who should never be allowed to practice medicine again. The day of the surgery was a very long one. Dr Shroeder performed the 14 hour surgery to correct the neurosurgeon's mess. He actually had to rebuild Tom's back vertebrae by vertebrae. There were a few appointments before the surgery and a few during the next year. It is a 3 hour drive each way for appointments/surgery. Both my husband and I feel that the drive back and forth saved his life. I do not say that lightly. It's been 6 years since his surgery at OSOC and we are so grateful to Dr. Shroeder and his wonderful staff, especially Liz. Their knowledge, patience, compassion and kindness is so appreciated.
