When we came to Maui in April 2016, after buying a condo that was to become our permanent home, I had a health problem that made it advisable that I choose a physician immediately & advise (her) of my situation & presence on island.
By the blessings of fortune, that physician was Anne Biedel, MD.
As a Physician Assistant myself, I've had a lot of experience and recognize an excellent doctor within a very short time. Dr. Biedel IS that "excellent doctor".
Dr. Biedel is a special kind of caring soul; the kind that remembers a couple, still transients, six months after a single visit, and greats them by name.... and with a hug! More important, of course, is the high degree of educated precision, caring, and excellence with which she practices medicine.
Don't come to Dr. Biedel if you want a doc to pat you on the head and toss a prescription at you. Many patients do, sadly, want that and, sadder yet, find someone who will do it. Dr. Biedel will not. What she WILL do is listen with respect and attention, diagnose and prescribe correctly; be it rest, exercise, a referral, a medication, if one is needed, or maybe, just watchful waiting.
We are now full time Maui residents who have chosen MMG in Lahaina for our primary care. We have never known the staff at Maui Medical to be anything but polite, kind and industrious. We have never felt the wait to be unreasonable.*
*As a retired health professional myself, I can promise you that nobody at ANY medical facility wants a full waiting room or a backup of sick and unhappy patients! A lot of time and research is actually spent on developing the best methods to set up appointments so that they "flow" smoothly in spite of those who inevitably walk in ten minutes late, early, or emergently!
Given some poor reviews I've read, I want to mention particularly that my face lights up whenever I walk in and see that Lahela is at the front desk! This young lady always has a smile as she willingly solves any problem. She seems to be able to accomplish anything! The rest of the front desk staff, the hard workers behind the scenes, and the nursing staff, are equally helpful. We always get smiles and always get solutions to anything that comes up!
A long review, but it's important to say: running a good, responsible, medical practice is difficult - especially one that sees short-time visitors as well as locals.. We are fortunate to have the excellent, caring folks at Maui Medical Group, Lahaina, at our service.
So, don't forget to say, "Mahalo"!
