Mikaela has always been a shy girl, she never talks to anyone or sings on the stage. She's a total opposite to her twin sister who's more outgoing and and talkative. The teachers of Christ the king helped Kaela open up to her friends and to others. One of the things that touched my heart was when they created an animal clinic inspired by Kaela since she wants to be a veterinarian one day. They sincerely care and love each and every children in their classes. They know they're preferences and the children love them like their own Aunties. These teachers pour out their heart and soul to teach them and prepare them for the future. I love and appreciate you all and I am so sad that I won't see you guys next year and but we will bring the kids to visit!! I recommend CHRIST THE KING PRESCHOOL! I think I should know a lot about this place as I spent 9 years of my life here. Back then (wow, I…read morefeel old, LOL) Kahului School was kindergarten through grade 8. My class, the class of 1989, was the last "graduating" class of Kahului School as Maui Waena Intermediate opened up the following school year. The school colors and red and blue, the mascot is the eagle. COOL FACT: The original Kahului School was located at the corner of Kaahumanu Avenue and Kane Street (across of the Maui Beach Hotel and Sears). The sole building stood vacant for years before being torn down maybe 20 years or so ago. THE SCHOOL: The current campus opened in the 1960's and is located at the corner of Lono and Hina Avenues. During my time, the campus consisted of several portable classrooms and 11 buildings all connected to a central covered walkway. It was designed with the youngest students situated at the front of the campus, progressing west towards Maui High School to the upper classmen. Accessibility is convenient via two major streets. None of the buildings were air conditioned except for the main office. Oh yeah, we soldier-children suffered through the heat! MEMORIES: I still remember the smell of the kindergarten classrooms and the hated nap time. Boy, how I long for an after-lunch nap now! Along with age came cafeteria duties. Yes, child labor! We were pulled early from one class and marched to the cafeteria to report for duty. We either helped move trays along the assembly line, emptied leftovers into the slop barrels, or even operated the Hobart-brand dishwasher (not kidding). Aside from ditching class early, you also got to eat lunch earlier. Chicken patty and battered fried fish days were an automatic home-lunch day for me as just the smell of them made me nauseous! Nowadays I like frozen fish sticks but still can't stomach the thought of a chicken patty. We recited the Pledge of Allegiance daily along with a local or national anthem/song of our choice. Yearbook production started around 1983 and I still possess all of them. Believe it or not, I had one "GT" (gifted & talented) class in around the 3rd grade. For some reason it was held in a makeshift janitor's office as there were just a few of us, LOL. Tuesdays were "film days". We all piled into the cafeteria, louvers closed, watching a projector screen in the dark. Excursion days were my favorite as we got to leave campus. You'd see classmates picking up bentos from Noda Market early in the morning before school. Numerous times we'd end up at Baldwin High School's auditorium to take in plays. I ran track for several years and competed in track meets. I was also a band geek and played the clarinet. Our bandroom was so ghetto! It was two portable classrooms surgically attached together to form a doublewide. TEACHERS: Yes, I still remember all nine homeroom teachers along with a few others. K = Mrs. Okuda, 1st = Mrs. Kimura, 2nd = Mrs. Rogers, 3rd = Mrs. Toda, 4th = Mrs. Wainui, 5th = Ms. Machida, 6th = Mrs. Shimabuku, 7th = Mr. Wright, 8th = Mr. Irimata. Band = Mr. Manzano, woodshop = Mr. Norman, PE = Mr. Yap. CURRENT DAY: Grades are now K through 5 only. Two of the permanent buildings burned down due to arson and were never replaced. More ugly portable classrooms dot the campus and faculty park all over the lawn by the kindergarten building. OVERALL: So many fun memories but I really didn't care for school.

This is a Title 9 school and they really do so much to support the community here.

Open to the public during non school hours, perfect for kids 5-10 but younger kids will find fun things as well. Currently doing construction on playground up the hill, so if your little one line big trucks go play in the fields and watch them work.

It is like a little city, built for 3-5 yr olds. It's nice to know how much "safe freedom" my child gets throughout the day. It is hard for me to let go and not try to control my child, so the atmosphere at Iao Preschool provides a nice balance to our child's life. They are always supervised durin. The day, however there exists plenty of time for self -exploration am decision making. They provide two meals and an afternoon snack and are open from 7am-5pm Monday-Friday.
