I have known several other people who have chosen this office to work with and have been greatly encouraged by their time spent here. These are opinions, I realize, but if you were to ask me for a recommendation for a place to go I would personally tell you to choose Stenzel. Before making my first appointment, I used their website and found it very helpful and informative. They have increased their options for online help and I would check that out if you are curious. And while the administrative staff has changed in the years I've been here, I have always worked with friendly, straightforward, and helpful people in the office. While I can't say that I've had experience with every counselor, I have talked to several and feel that they are like-minded and qualified individuals who have the goal in mind to help someone who is reaching out for help. I will be honest: counseling was not something I wanted to pursue... This was a medical recommendation for me. When I was in a spot in life where I didn't know where to turn for help, I called Stenzel. My very first phone call experience was met by a secretary that was flexible and listening... She put me at ease enough to even agree to first appointment. (If you knew me...you would know that this was a huge accomplishment!) My opinion about the need for, and the helpfulness of, counseling has done a 180 in my time coming here. In my case, as a forty year-old mom of one toddler, Anne works because she asks meaningful questions at the right time. Her questions and feedback encourage me to take a fresh, new look at an old issue, to deepen and widen my self-understanding and/or to consider a different perspective on a current problem. Before meeting Anne, I was a patient of a top-rated Chicago area psychiatrist, but found her focus on conventional medicine and her colorblindness to be very problematic, as I am a Latina and interested in holistic approaches to health. It is very comforting to discover that Anne is a progressive and culturally responsive therapist. She is comfortable with topics regarding race or social class or non-conventional approaches to health, and so I can speak openly about those issues. Finally, I am a stay at home mom, and the fact that I can meet with her ten minutes after dropping off my son at preschool is extremely convenient. I clearly…read morecommunicated how my medication was helping me, and even showed improvement on assessments, yet she insisted I wasn't providing enough information and needed to "be more focused." It felt like she was pressing me for different answers and then blaming me for any confusion. The way she came across was frustrating and made me uncomfortable. I've never had a provider speak to me like this. It almost felt like I was being treated as the problem, like a child being told to "go to time out," which is not how a professional should speak to an adult patient. Her tone was dismissive and defensive rather than collaborative or empathetic. There was also no follow-through on an insurance preauthorization she claimed to have submitted, leaving me to handle the issue myself. On top of that, my daughter was about to start as a new patient, bringing more business to her practice. Instead of any gratitude or professionalism, I was met with the same defensiveness and dismissiveness, and I ended up canceling both appointments. Dr. Boladale lost two patients because of this behavior. Based on my experience, I would not be surprised if this review is met with defensiveness rather than accountability. I have never experienced such miscommunication or such a dismissive tone from any provider before, and I would not recommend Dr. Boladale to anyone expecting attentive, respectful, and professional care. **Please see the attached screenshots from the "good doctor." Turns out he was not a LMFT or trained in EFT. He is not on either national directory. After 8 sessions he lost complete focus and awareness. When this was brought to his attention instead of using this to repair and build trust in the therapy relationship, he became defensive and blaming. When going for marriage counseling make sure you see someone who is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and certified in EFT. Not just someone with an MA., LCPC.
