Morning breakfast at it's best, fast, fresh, and cheap. Cooks were fast in taking my order and punching it out within minutes. I was out the door in under 5 minutes. $2.50 for Egg and Cheese on a roll. Rolls were fresh and soft, eggs cooked perfectly and cheese still oozing out. I like this place. Sure "Matty's Deli" is a update fresh look on Jamaica Avenue, but please stop with the minimums! I was preparing for interviews so I wanted to grab a quick bite. I was recommended "Matty's Deli" because it was a quick walk away. So walk I did and amazed I was. The outside seems old but when you walk in you see a modern deli, with all the amenities. They make salads, smoothies, sandwiches and hero's. I was impressed with how long the line was. When I got to the counter I gave my order. I was surprised they had spinach wraps. I didn't question it, I just stood there and waited. When my food was ready I was disappointed with how small it was. However I went to the counter and was okay because the price worked. But then, like nails on a chalk board, the gentleman said, "five dollar minimum." My jaw dropped. This place was almost perfect. I had to call to take orders from co worker to complete my transaction. Finally, when I left with a full bag I walked back to try the wrap. I can say the wrap itself tasted great. I only wish they added more eggs to it. I only ordered egg and cheese so you'd figure they go all out. But I was satisfied so I definitely will return........with cash in hand. read more

Right across the corner of Rufus King Park, Matty's is, unfortunately, one of the better places in the area to grab lunch if you work nearby. It's a deli/convenience store, so you can find the following: a huge selection (7 fridge displays) of bottled beverages/sodas/juices/etc, tons of chips, candy, granola bars, Hostess cakes, gums, mints, and junk food in general. In addition to that, they also sell sandwiches and salads. A meat and cheese sandwich on a roll is about $4-5 and for $1 more, you can get it on a huge ass hero, which is totally double the size. Lunch and dinner? I think so. I believe they also sell some hot food like french fries, but I haven't gotten that adventurous with this questionable place. With the new awning and recently reorganized shelves, you get the appearance that the place is sorta clean, but not really, but better than the other places in the neighborhood. The place is packed during lunch at noon on weekdays. You'll get the normal people who look like they don't belong in Jamaica, and then you get the crazies who are the kind of people you wouldn't want to be stuck with on the same subway car. If you're desperate, a foreigner to Jamaica, or just kind of hungry and feeling scared to be in the neighborhood, go to Matty's for a sandwich and snack. Then at least you won't be hungry. read more

Only because I work in this area. Matty's Deli is a convenient place for me to buy lunch while at work, which in this case is a nightmare between the hours of 12pm and 2pm. Expect a long wait during these times because it is a popular lunch choice for the professionals in the area. I find that they make mistakes when its crowded due to trying to get the rush of people out, so if it is busy when you go I recommend keeping your order simple (or call ahead). They have an excellent selection of snacks (I LOVE SNACKS) and the staff is pretty friendly. Its one of the cleaner deli's I have seen especially for Jamaica. My personal favs from Matty's is the philly cheese steak and a grilled chicken salad with all my favorite fixings. read more

Closest lunch place to my job, thank goodness they take credit card after $6 (drink and a sandwich, perfect) as most places seem cash only. Delis are never that friendly to vegetarians (not a whole lot of options for veg folks in the vicinity!), but if you eat some fish, you'll enjoy their tuna sandwich. The tuna salad always tastes very fresh. I had a fish sandwich from them last week that was also very nice. Their veggies are always fresh too! I also really appreciate the staff, they've always been really nice! Decent selection of healthy beverages and some healthy snack options as well. Glad to have this place around! It seems others are as well...I rarely take lunch before 2 and even at the tail end of the lunch hour they're somewhat busy. Have never waited more than 5 or 6 minutes! read more

I used to love Matty's. In an area of Jamaica near two courthouses, a police lab, school, and federal building, it's amazing how few good places there are to get lunch, so when Matty's opened a few years back, we were elated. The quality has been plummeting as of late - not sure if It's due to staffing changes or what, but it goes beyond taste into danger category. Uncooked fries (literally - they were frozen), incorrect sandwiches - it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Today I ordered roast beef and cheese on rye. Good thing I stood there, because he started putting avocado and tuna on the bread - I'm allergic to avocado and hate tuna. Careless. There's a much better deli, far more consistent, towards Parsons on Jamaica Ave, so if you don't want to get poisoned and get what you pay for (more often, at least), go there instead of Matty's. read more

horrible people there. i bought milk from here, i opened it to use with my cereal but smelled it before i used it, it smelled bad, double checked with my co-worker to make sure im not the only personal smelling it being bad. took it to the place to exchange. he said it was ok , it doesn't smell bad and then told me to take another one. after that he poured it into coffee and tells me that the milk looks good and that he cannot exchange it for me. he told me to pay for the other milk and was being rude. i said that im not comfortable drinking that milk, he said its not his problem. i will never go to this place again. this is not the only time i see poor service, sometimes their sandwiches are not good either, taste is bad, bacon is over cooked or rubbery. they are not organized, give the wrong sandwiches to customers, happened to me twice. i will not recommend this place to anyone. they don't even have the courtesy to apologize in the event that they made a mistake read more
