Upon entering, my girlfriend and I was immediately greeted by friendly and eager staff. Wanted to sit at the bar, as we prefer to eat and order there, but was full. First good sign. The place was very busy, but still able to be seated quickly. Server was very attentive and timely. Another good sign. We ordered drinks which were promptly delivered in less than 5 minutes and a fairly busy night. I ordered the Scallops with Fettuccine Fra Diavolo. She ordered spaghetti with clams on the half shell. Both were absolutely amazing. I am a huge fan of FraDiavolo sauce and this was, by far, the BEST I have ever landed my taste buds on. She was extremely satisfied with her dish as well. For an authentic fine dining experience where YOU feel important rather than a burden, this is your place. Smiling faces, great server staff, food done perfectly and good portions! Best Fine Dining Italian restaurant in the "Coal Region" and I am fairly hard to impress. read more

We've been coming here for years, and it never disappoints! Really did a huge renovation and it looks like a nice clean modern restaurant as opposed to a restaurant from The Godfather movie. Luckily the food hasn't been renovated, still outstanding! We had a party of six, and had multiple manicottis, J's chicken, and two other chicken dishes that we all loved! Our server was excellent and couldn't have been nicer. This is a place we've been to more than we can count, and we will be back soon! read more

We had an outstanding meal. We sat at the bar and had our cocktails. Ashley (the Owner) made our Martinis and they were perfect. When we're seated at the table she waited on us. We started with a small Antipasto which was excellent Next Italian Wedding soup. Three of us had the Shrimp Ala Francese Excellent. My friend had the Veal Parm. Everyone loved their meals. read more

Highly recommend pizza with extra cheese and shrimp half baked to go. There is no where we can find crust and flavor like Mattucchi's pizza! Cannot comment on any other menu item but their pizza "half baked" is so great even when wrapped tightly snd frozen to share with friends not acquainted with region. read more

If you get your food might be good. Bar is full of foul mouthed drunk patrons. Definitely not the family local place anymore!!

Best Pizza in the world but... I grew up in the area eating Mattucci's pizza and since moving away no pizza can compare. I make sure to get some every time I visit and sometimes don't even go on Sunday cause they are closed Sundays. Anyway...I texted my sister at 3:44 that I was on my way (from Lavelle) so would be at Mattucci's in 10 minutes. I was sitting at the table at 3:55. Ordered two large plain cheese pizzas with plans to take the leftovers home to Virginia. We waited. We talked. Other patrons came and were seated. We waited. The patrons that came in 10 min after us soon had their food. We waited. The other patrons finished their food. We waited. The other patrons gathered their leftovers, paid and left. We waited. Finally, 1 hour and 10 minutes later we received our pizzas. Of course they were delicious, just be ready to wait. read more

Food and service were fine. Once I questioned the bill and discount card from a local high school team, that they didn't honor. The manager who is drinking beer at the bar starts yelling my name as I exited the establishment yelling..."Here's your $6.00 with my name as I said Merry Christmas and good luck." Love Nick and his Wife. The drinking manager at the bar, mmmmm...not as much. We are called to love and boy she needs some. After questioning her about the discount card. #1. The word "Items" she said that only means 1. I said then it should say 1 regularly priced item. #2. Why is it limited to parties of less than four if it's only one item? She said "That doesn't matter." I responded sure it does as a party of 20 could be a huge discount. #3. She claimed that SCA didn't have permission to even print the discount. I said "Really, that language is pretty specific and was given some thought." Then she started getting irate and asked my name. I told her and said please let Nick know. I also added that I've been going there since before she was born. She said "I won't tell Nick and let me give you $6 from my own wallet." "I said that isn't necessary wished her a Merry Christmas and Good Luck" while she screamed my full name repeatedly and said here's the $6 as I exited the bar. BTW our tip was $20. There is a very good reason why the majority of managers are not allowed to drink while managing a bar/restaurant. Sorry Nick, you lost a very loyal sit down customer. read more

We reserved the private room for 21 people and also made sure that individual families within party could pay separately and was reassured. My brother even received a phone call confirming the above a few days prior. We did not get the room that was confirmed or reserved nor even called to tell us any different the day of. We are an Italian family who have basically grown up eating here. My brother who moved away wanted to have his 50th bday dinner here for nostalgia sake plus he enjoyed the food here the most. When we were giving the waitresses (there were two...one for each side of the U shape we were sitting in) we reminded to give orders so each family were together. She said they were told to just take everyone's order and the "girl in back" would take care of it. Food: 1. Many of us ordered apps. Calamari was in perfectly cut circles that resembled frozen onion rings and they were over fried. I am 99% sure that was not actual calamari. Shrimp cocktails ordered were partially deveined. Clams never showed up and waitress walked away so quick couldn't get her attention so dropped it. 2. My half of table didn't get salads but they didn't notice until dinners came and was to late so didn't ask for them. My French onion soup came and it tasted good but clearly was microwaved because it was boiling and had to put ice cubes in it to even sip it. 3. Pizzas ordered for apps for group were delish. 4. Meals: I ordered Cheese ravioli (which was my childhood fav from here) and it was disappointing. The dough was very chewy/half cooked, filling was lukewarm. Sauce was not the same (it used to be our fav next to our gram's) and was very salty. My husbands Italian combo was disappointing. The dough was again chewy and half cooked, the meat filling was not seasoned but he loves meat so he said it was ok, the tiny sausage tasted like pepperoni and the meatball was meh. Another person's Chicken Parm (which we used to LOVE) was clearly a frozen chicken patty and again the sauce was and salty, my two brothers did love the Frutti de Mare so kudos on that, basically anything we got with red sauce was disappointing. Three of us ordered Gnocchi (we sat at 5pm) and they said they were sold out. The "manager" Ashley came and knelt down to talk to us like children to inform and they gave orders of something else (two were def not the same cost of gnocchi but cheaper) and my daughters chicken fingers were fried like the calamari. The oil probably needs changed. 5. One guy ordered a burger and fries. He waited a few minutes when our orders were delivered and then asked about burger. She said oops it was given to a take out order and he had to wait for his meal. It happens but just another "bad taste" in the mouths of the whole party. 6. They did bring out the cake we brought and sang which was nice. We had to ask Ashley (the manager) to bring the cake box out to us. She again seemed agitated then brought it back. Said "We are overwhelmed with birthday parties right now and not sure this is your box but use this" and walked off. Again, not our problem and to make the paying customer to feel like an inconvenience is unprofessional. I hope the party who's box we got ate a lot of their cake because we could have fit two cakes in the box we got. 7. Our whole side never was asked about refills and my husband asked once but it never came. 8. Even the bread was hard and not as good as it used to be. Time to pay: The check comes out and it is given to my brother. It was his birthday and again when he booked he made sure it was okay we all paid individually for our families. Which was our gift to him to drive in and pay for our own meals to spend time together. He CONFIRMED this prior to the day. It was a hard NO from Ashley. She would NOT separate the checks. He would have made sure we brought cash otherwise. Most of us have cards only. It was truly inconvenient for him. I think they were more concerned about the $75 tip they put on for themselves and in knowing the service and food was they still got a decent tip to split. We would have done better than that tip so he didn't have to pay upfront for us on his birthday but no one cared. We are talking about Mt. Carmel PA not a swanky NYC hot spot they could have whipped out their paper ordering notebook and split the order but no. Clearly whoever took the reservation was not trained properly or they just make up as they go ‍ There were two charges for Gnocchi on bill so we asked Ashley about it. She got defensive and said it was the same price as what we ordered but two of the three were actually cheaper but it wasn't worth it at that point to fight about it. It was very disappointing and an uncomfortable environment to say the least. Our next birthday gathering in the coal region will have to stay with Ghezzi's were it is never a disappointment. read more

This place is not the same as it use to be. Your bill is always more than what it should be, and the service is not the greatest. Food did not seem to be homemade. Mediocre at best. Took a food box home and it eventually went into the garbage can. Then, we tried to use a restaurant.com coupon that we bought to cover part of the meal to be used specifically for this restaurant. On the coupon it states that the coupon DOES NOT EXPIRE. Low and behold, they would NOT ACCEPT it towards our payment. Shame on this establishment. To make things worse, I have bought and am in possession of 3 coupons that were not to expire! $10 off a minim purchase of $20. THEY WILL NOT EVER SEE ME AGAIN, EVER! read more

We've been going to Matucci's for fifty years. Mostly great with excellent food. Last night......nit so much. Called for reservations yesterday. Phone number on web site and Fb not in service! Finally call "take out" number and spoke to Ashley. Asked for 6:30 reservation, she said 6:45. ok Waited for her to ask for a phone number...she didn't. Waited for her to ask for a name.....she didnt, but I gave my last name. Ashley said they were now using the "take out" number as the main number. It was in the paper and FB, was her response. I live almost an hour away, which I mentioned. Don't think I get the local paper and am not a friend on FB, but ok. Ashley didn't think it necessary to let me know they are remodeling and would need to come in a different door. Ok, we figured it out. Got in and guess what? Ashley didn't write down our reservation! She as much as said you'll have to wait "or you're free to leave if you want"! No apology just left us standing there when we said we'd wait! After twenty minutes, the hostess said "are there just two of you"? yes. We'll I could have seated you right away. Didn't know there was just two! The only two bright spots of the evening was the food and our waitress, Kayla. Think we'll wait till the remodeling is finished (good we didn't have a wheelchair or walker, etc., cause there were at least six steps to go down into the temporary dining room which Ashley didn't mention, either). read more

The food and service was good. The pricing was a little high for a small town. Some things didn't make sense to me but the server was explaining to us but pasta is pasta in my book. They have done some remodeling since my last time there and it was nice, I was reading some reviews for this establishment and it was mentioned about the language from patrons at the bar and now I understand, while we were dining the bar was busy and not loud or any foul language! read more

Ordered from Mattucci's once again and confirmed their pizza is just as good if not better than ever. Have been getting pizza here for a long time and to know that they're still going strong with this family-owned and operated business is great. Their pizza is a great escape from the typical Neapolitan style pizza you get at many places. The toppings are all fresh and not the typical frozen or canned stuff you get everywhere else as well. read more

Mattucci's Willow Cafe - Deluxe pizza, always super but tonight it was better than ever! - Italian Near Me - Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania

Drove 40 minutes to come in to see family and my only request was Mattucci's shrimp pizza. We ordered 3 pizzas (shrimp, brushetta, and plain). When we got back with the pizza we only got a brushetta and 2 plain pizzas, no shrimp. We paid close to $70 dollars for these three pizzas and ended up not even getting shrimp. When we called to let them know, she said you got the pizzas that had your name on it and was rude about it. Place will not be the same without Nick owning the business. Very upsetting. read more

Amazing food. Amazing service. Family owned and operated for generations. It's a great reason to visit Mount Carmel!

we have been eating at Mattucci's for 30 years. We live in California now but when we come to visit family in Kulpmont ...we always end up here. Tonight we had a party of twelve. Kelly was our server and she was outstanding! super friendly and actually made us feel like we were dining at her house. we ordered clams on the half, clams casino, mozzerella sticks for apps and all were devoured along with the fresh baked bread. Yum!!!! For dinner we ordered chicken parmasan, Beef stroganoff, lasagna and veal marsala. These were all great dishes made from scratch and delicious! All in all we had a very enjoyable meal , service was excellent and dinner too! Thank you Mattuccis for another great family dinner. read more

Matucci's Willow Cafe was a real treat. The family owned restaurant has been doing its thing for over 4 generations. The building is not fancy and appears to be a converted home on a corner in a residential area of Mt. Carmel. Upon entering we notice the bar to the right and the dining room to the left. We observed a painting on the wall of the original owners. We were greeted by the host who asked us if we had a reservation. We indicated we did not, but this didn't seem to be a problem and we were seated right away. Within minutes we were greeted by a friendly waitress who was ready to get us drinks. This place is well lit/clean with beautiful aged wood paneling. There are two rooms accommodating around 60 - 70 guests, The full service bar has about 10 stools and a couple of booths. A flat screen TV is mounted on the wall for sports. They have an interesting bar and wine selection. Our drinks arrived and so did the loaf of homemade bread. We ordered the Olive Antipasti which came out picture perfect and tasted as good as it looked. Lots of chopped garlic, olive oil and mixed herbs. For dinner we ordered the Italian Combo Platter and Rigatoni with Butter and Garlic. The Italian Combo Platter came to the table with three huge Cheese Raviolis, Spaghetti, a Meatball and a piece of Sausage. The red sauce was a brilliant in color and delightful. The Spaghetti was al dente and you could see the fork mark on the Homemade Raviolis that were complement with the HM Meatball and sausage. The Rigatoni with Butter and Garlic Sauce was for real garlic lovers. Awesome!!!! Overall this was a real pleasant experience. I would recommend this spot to everyone near or far (we drove 160 miles). Thank you YELP, w/o you we would have never found this little gem!! Ciao read more

Did not honor the reservation location that was made. Andrea did not listen to our concerns and wanted to shut down any conversation. She was very rude throughout our time at the restaurant. We confirmed twice that we could separate the bill but then when it was time to pay we were told we could go find an atm. The bill was wrong and no correction was made. Not everyone got a salad. Out of the 21 people in our party only 3 liked their meal. The red sauce was not good, they were out of gnocchis very early in the evening and the bill was not corrected for that. It was a very disappointing experience except for our wonderful server (unfortunately do not know her name- but she is the only reason we did not give a 1 star). read more

Love the pizza. The crust is thin and crisp. The sauce is covered with mozzarella. Consistent for over 50 years.

Well I decided to give this restaurant one last try. I started with the mussels in garlic butter sauce. That dish is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! For dinner I had the manicotti, which is my favorite dish there, or at least it was. There manicotti is homemade. The pasta was so thick and chewy that I could not eat it. The sauce tasted like it had been in the pot in on the stove for days on end. It was really dark and bitter. I think I have had enough of Matucci's. The pizza looks great I may have to try that before I give up completely but as far as the pasta dishes, I'm done! What a damn shame for this restaurant. I really think that the people who are now running it I just don't give a shit what they serve you. This is the first time I felt a need to do a bad review This was the worst experience we've EVER had. The new Investor actually insulted me repeatedly when we just mentioned it wasn't so good. This was actually worse than the bad meal. We never asked for a discount, or even sent food back. But she treated us with such disrespect, raised her voice and threw her hand up when we approached her tossing out slip in the trash. Read on to hear more of our experience: At first glance, Mattucci's looks like it's moving forward. But todays dining experience with them tells me differently. My husband and I took our daughter, son-in-law, and 4 year old son for an anniversary celebration 6:30 pm reservation. Only 2 other already served tables were there when we arrived. Other tables came and went after we walked in. First server was a bartender, new to the restaurant, struggled, but did ok for first drink. 1 hour later took our order for apps. They actually were good. We had to ask her to take order for Main dish, someone else came 10 minutes later( investors daughter I heard) to take that order came out 2 different times to confirm, she could read her own writing she said. All meals were wrong. My scallops were not included with my scallops Caesar salad, along with me eating alone long before other meals came. The steak one ordered blackened, med rare came cooked not blackened, and med Well. Catfish and clams were burnt. I never saw burnt clams in any bad restaurant, it was to be over linguini. The pasta came out separately with red sauce. Daughters salad was to have dressing on side, came drenched with dressing. We were so saddened by this. Never go back, So upset, we never took pics. We're there 2 1/2 hrs $ 277.00 before tip read more

I don't care what anyone says, but the food is probably the best around. There are always people flooding the bar and the dinning room no matter the hour. Traveling from out of town. For central PA the Italian at Mattucci's was okay. I had the chicken parmesan dinner with a salad and gnocchi. The portions were large, enough that I had gnocchi and chicken parmesan left over for a second meal. The chicken was a thick, nicely breaded cutlet, and the sauce was edible, but nothing too extraordinary. The gnocchi was slightly overcooked, but still had enough taste to get the job done. However, the salad left a lot to be desired, it tasted like (and looked like) it was straight from a store bought mix. The bread brought to the table was a cut loaf and was definitely not freshly made. The service was fine, but slow, even for the quiet lunch rush. The ambiance of the restaurant lacks, and it seems better times are in the restaurants past. read more

I used to go to Matucci's as a child every time we visited family in the Shamokin area. Mr. Matucci, with his snow-white hair and white apron, would stroll through the dining room and make sure that every single diner was enjoying themselves. To say that this place is "old school" is an understatement. The decor is sparse and the neighborhood depressed but that doesn't reflect on either the food or service. The pizzas are the BEST that I've ever had in my life and the antipasto platter overflows with delicious hand-sliced meat, cheeses, olives, etc. The fact that Matucci's is still in business after more than 40 years reflects on how incredible the restaurant is and has been. Every neighborhood needs a Matucci's...I just wish it was in mine. read more

Mattucci's Italian Restaurant sets the standard for Italian food in America. I am full Italian. While I am born here in the U.S., my family are all from the northern Italian Alp regions. My family immigrated to Mount Carmel like many other Italians from that time period. When we go visit in Mount Carmel, going to Mattucci's is the icing on the cake. Its amazing! It puts new meaning to home made cooking in going out to eat. I fly across the country and if I am nearby, I will travel hours to eat at Mattucci's. Everything if amazing! Just a note a second favorite place when visiting Mount Carmel was Cucina Di Marco. Another northern Italian amazing restaurant. But unfortunately it has closed. Next time I am in town I will eat at Mattucci's! Molto buono! read more

I had the New York Strip and the wife had the homemade ravioli. I guess I should have asked the price of the steak since it said market price. Well, I guess the market price for a "fair" cut of meat with little seasoning was $32 that night. My wife however, enjoyed her 4 large ravioli. That is the reason I gave them 3 stars. Other that that, the atmosphere is nothing to sneeze at... I will probably try a pizza on the way through, but will not make it a point to go there. This trip was due to a Restaurant.com certificate. Apparently, this establishment is known for their pizza... Guess I should have ordered the pizza .. **sigh** read more

For what it is, the food is on par with most local pubs. Decent beer selection. But the service is some of the worst I've had. Not slow, but not super friendly and, at times, downright gruff. Finally made it to the famed Mattucci's! Boyfriend's family has many fond memories here. His Dad called ahead for a reservation, just in case, though it ended up not being necessary this winter Wednesday. The hostess greeted us right away, sat us, and our wonderful waiter came to take our drink orders, and brought delicious fresh made bread with butter. Yum. The server was great, attentive, patient, answered our questions, made us feel very welcome. We each had entrees, two of us chose salads, basic iceberg with carrot & purple cabbage mix. One chose the soup which he loved. Usually I go for more vegetable dense dishes when dining out, but today I had Fettuccine Alfredo. LOVE the fresh pasta! The sauce was just right, how do they get it so smooth, and FRESH parsley on top! The Papa had the variety plate: sausage, meatball, two HUGE ravioli ( one meat / one cheese), with spaghetti and red sauce, he loved it. Mi amor had rigatoni with diablo sauce (just enough kick) and beautiful shrimp! There were leftovers all around, and we laughed at mention of dessert!!! read more

Yes , I believe it's been 15 years that I've been eating this food but the legend of this place goes back farther. I heard stories of it in my youth. I have never hard as good and consistently good food outside of grandmoms kitchen. I give Estella 6 stars by the way. I think Matucci could get six but they don't serve breakfast. I can't say this place is a pizza joint, but it has the best pizza around. It's not a fine dinning but try the veal, lobster and steak can't be better. It's not a diner , but soups salads bread and sandwiches are options. The is not a bar but has great beer and mixed drinks , wine and spirits.
