Extremely Disappointing Experience - Safety Concerns…read more I visited The Mattress Factory about a month ago after speaking with Andres Ramos, Executive Vice President/GM, who recommended I visit the Oxford Valley showroom to experience the mattresses in person. At the showroom, Ron Stone assisted us for over an hour. He was very personable and thorough, and I clearly informed him multiple times that I have a high king bed. When delivery arrived, the box springs were so high that my bed was dangerously close to my ceiling fan. The delivery men were excellent -- by far the best part of this experience. They immediately recognized the issue, explained that the box springs were incorrect, and contacted Ron Stone on my behalf. Ron Stone called me later that evening, but his demeanor was completely different from our showroom interaction. He stated that the correct box springs would need to be ordered. I was supposed to receive them two weeks ago. Then Bob, the store manager, called to say they hadn't come in and I'd need to wait another two weeks. This week I was told the items were finally in and they were delivered today -- and they are still incorrect. Because my bed has a center support board, these box springs are not appropriate and could damage the mattress. I've already been at risk for a fall for over a month due to how high the bed was. I'm very tall and also have a bad hip, which made this situation especially unsafe. Additionally, I had requested that the bed downstairs be adjusted because it was also too high. Again, the delivery technician (Pete -- very kind and professional) tried to help, but the legs were broken and could not be adjusted. At this point, I am still waiting for a proper resolution. I have contacted multiple people at the company and currently have a call out to Chris, who I was told is the owner. I came in early, over a month ago, specifically to have everything resolved before my children arrived for the holidays. Today is December 19th, and I am still dealing with unresolved issues . I truly hope I can update this review with a positive resolution. As of now, however, I would not recommend The Mattress Factory to others based on this experience.

Sadly, the final experience was soured and a reminder that it is not how you start but how you finish. While we enjoy the mattress, we will not be returning when it is time to furnish the remaining rooms of our new home. Initially, our experience was positive when we walked into the showroom. We were greeted by a knowledgeable sales agent who immediately helped us narrow down several beds within our budget. As we were furnishing the master bedroom first, we were willing to treat ourselves and opt for a higher end mattress. The sales agent was courteous, patient and explained the ins and out of each mattress type. Overall the selection process and payment was not only painless but also an overall pleasant experience. That would be the high point as Matress Firm would go on to snatch a one star review from the jaws of a five star. The sales person, Albert recommended an adjustable base to accompany our matresss. We had some concerns as neither of us had any experience with an adjustable base. We inquired about the compatiblity with an existing bedframe and the additional height to the height of the mattress. The sales agent glossed over our concerns stating that the frame would work with slats which was correct and that the adjustable base only added six inches. Admittedly, six inches did not sound terrible and we were under the impression that the base could be returned. Feeling confident with our purchased we finalized the amount on the screen and walked out shortly after looking forward to our new bed! Delivery went smoothly with the matress and adjustable base delivered the next day. It was immediately noticeable that the adjustable base made the mattress sit solidly higher than our two nightstands. We would have to reach down to reach anything, and we knew before even trying it that the adjustable base was not going to work for us. We moved the unused base to our guest room and made note to schedule a return. When we called Matress Firm, the very next day we learned the adjustable base was not returnable per company policy. We thought this must be a mistake but upon checking our electronic receipt there was indeed a non-returnable clause that our sales agent conveniently forgot to disclose. This so called clause was never shown on screen to swipe my credit card or mentioned in the terms and conditions of the items being purchased. We reached out to both the store and the corporate support number, but were stonewalled. Albert who was out on vacation was to be informed to call us back. He never returned our call and tooo the coward way out. Faced with the prospect of eating a 500 dollar loss and stuck with adjustable base of which we have no use for, I'm thankful I paid for the purchase for with my American Express and that AmEx was able to reimburse us for the base. We would have rather had a sales person who was honest and less knowledgeable and/or friendly than a wolf in sheep clothing who speaks half truths to make the sale. We had already planned to spend the money and a large amount at that. There was no need to be vague about the return policy. As shady as this company is, it's amazing they went bankrupt and in debt while misleading customers and lining their pockets. Do yourself a favor, patronize any other mattress store if you can or if you must, ensure you have some form of purchase protection.

It was an excellent shopping experience. We were done in about 20 minutes. The owner, Glenn, knows EVERYTHING about mattresses. We walked into the warehouse and he asked if we wanted to look around on our own or wanted some suggestions. We asked for suggestions. He zeroed us in on three models, had very detailed info on each. (His website also has a lot of great info.) Great prices. Next-day delivery plus removal of the old mattress. Also sells sheets, pillows, metal bed frames, and mattress covers. Since we were moving from a queen to a king, that was all really handy. Also, he works with manufacturers to get flippable mattresses, which are hard to find now. He said that one-sided mattresses are basically like buying half a mattress. People will go to him specifically for 2-siders. He says he doesn't advertise because he gets so many referrals. We were so impressed with him, we actually called the next day before the delivery and asked him to throw in a second mattress to replace one from another bedroom. I felt fine just buying it over the phone because he's that knowledgeable. He also gave us a bit of a discount for buying two. "I'm a long-term operation," he said several times. He wants customers for life. Mattress is good so far. A little firm but it takes a while to break them in. Also, as Glenn pointed out, a mattress can always be made softer with mattress toppers but it cannot be made firmer. Highly recommend!

Frankly, I can't tell you if a "Paco Geppetto" or "Geezus of Nazareth" brand couch is better or worse than the inventory carried in their mainline store but to my eyes and especially, my derriere, they felt pretty good. Perhaps the Sultan of Brunei may have some quality issues but seeing as the two of us will never be confused, I can live with a reasonable compromise or two. And frankly, the pieces weren't self-destructing before my eyes like they do at a discount schlock-meister like Bob's.
