We were mattress shopping and had a list of stores planned to check out before we decided on what bed to by. I usually like to do plenty of research and shop around before making large purchases like a new mattress set, etc. This happened to be the first place we went to on our list. A salesman named Jeremy (super tall black guy) was very nice to start off and showed us a number of beds. When we had narrowed it down to the one we liked best in their store we thanked him and said that we want to read some reviews as well as check some other shops before we made a purchase. We were fully open about not intending to buy until we had done our research. He then tried to convince me to just use his computer right there to read some reviews that he wanted to pull up for me and I said no thanks, but I'll do it on my own at home before making a purchase. He did his best to use all the high-pressure sales tricks in the book on us like saying "you know, today's been a busy day, so I'll give you a special discount that's good for today only". He really tried to lay on the heat with sales techniques that were so used-car-salesman-like that they were actually funny, yet sad that he was serious with them. It just made him look really desperate to make a sale. When I finally had to be blunt with him and reiterate to him that we were not going to buy a bed that day and were going to look at several places before making any decisions, it was like flicking a switch with his attitude and is demeanor turned quite rude. We were actually taken back with surprise by how pitiful it came across. Needless to say that this is NOT the place we ended up purchasing a bed from. We ended up buying from Nebraska Furniture Mart because of their much larger selection and also because their salespeople were much more laid back and nice in general. They went out of their way to make us feel that there's no pressure with them and they won our business with good old fashioned quality service with a smile. Our experience was only with Jeremy and I do not mean to say that all the people at Mattress People are poor salespeople. I can only speak from my experience with one guy...which was negative enough to make me go out of my way to take time to write this negative review. If you go there, I would go out of my way to deal with a different salesperson...and if not, don't be afraid to just leave if he starts putting on the heat with his terrible sales practices. I have been in sales for many years and honestly have to say that this was one of the poorest exhibitions of high pressure sales I have seen for some time. read more
