My girlfriend and I decided we wanted a larger bed, especially with three small dogs insisting on sleeping with us. We had a Heirloom queen from Jerome's that we absolutely loved that costed an ungodly amount of money six years ago. They're even more costly now, especially the California King. And you better not hate it, because Jerome's doesn't accept returns. We fell in love with Jerome's Bordeaux California King, but the mattress alone costs nearly $5,000.00. We started watching YouTube videos on different mattresses. We enjoyed watching Ken, Gabriel, and Pablo's videos from, "Mattress Makers," San Diego based furniture stores. Was interesting watching them open up mattresses they removed from customer's homes when delivering their new mattresses. We were really sold on their entire manufacturing process. The natural latex foams, and spring designs, and the fact they make them as soon as you order them. With a two week, give or take, delivery date. They can also customize your new bed and install different types of latex foams to make one side firmer and the other side softer. In addition to, "Mattress Makers," many good reviews all over the internet, we decided to give them a shot. We arrived at the San Marcos location just before closing time. Being mindful of whoever was working was probably wanting to lock the doors and go home to their families. I was just planning on getting some quick information, and brochures, etc. We were greeted by a very familiar face. Ken Johnson happens to belong to the same ancient and charitable men's fraternity that I do. As matter of fact, he's a Pillar and well liked and respected member of our brotherhood. Yes, we are Freemasons. Even though he was about to close up shop, my girlfriend and I were heartily and genuinely welcomed in, he loved the doors and spent an hour with us figuring out what our needs and sleeping habits were. He zeroed in on two types of medium firm beds for side sleepers like us. We were ready to purchase, mostly due to, "Mattress Makers," were half the price of our favorite Jerome's Bordeaux mattress, and Mattress Makers guaranteed we'd love it or we could return it for a $289.00 return fee, which Jerome's didn't offer. After a couple of weeks we decided the mattress wasn't for us and we became willing to pay the return fee, and purchase the more expensive one we were already familiar with. Don't get me wrong. Check them out yourself. Mattress Makers have quality offerings and many satisfied customers. We decided to keep, and pay, for the free pillows and sheets we got with the mattress we returned. Quality all around. And the service we received, was on par, from the very beginning to the end when we had to make the uncomfortable choice of asking to return a product to a good friend we purchased it from. No matter where you live in San Diego, Orange, Riverside or even LA County, go in and see Ken Johnson at the San Marcos, "Mattress Makers," showroom. Whether you're buying or returning he'll make you feel good and treat you right. Arlene and I are older, and have hip and shoulder pain exasperated if on the wrong mattress for us. We're kind of like the old nursery rhyme Princess and the Pea, where she was so sensitive she felt the pea even after many mattresses piled up. Additionally, Ken has followed in his Dad's footsteps and is a professional Santa Clause around Christmas time! read more

Pablo was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful on my quest to find the perfect pillow. He let me try multiple options until I found the exact right blend of materials. I'm sleeping better than ever thanks to my pillow from Mattress Makers and I am no longer the princess and the pea! read more

I am still in process of getting medical advice. Ken was very helpful and knowledgeable.

We had a great experience working with Ken J. at the San Marcos location. He patiently helped us find comfortable latex mattresses for our master and guest bedrooms. He also took the time to demonstrate a motorized frame which was quite amazing to see. There was no sales pressure or gimmicky discounts. They are factory direct to the customer, so you will pay less than a comparable mattress from a famous brand store. I highly recommend learning the basics of mattress construction at mattressunderground.com before you shop for a new mattress, so you can make an educated purchase. read more

I've slept on a mattress from Mattress Makers for about a year now - here's my review. My mattress buying journey started out rough. Naive to the ways of the mattress industry, I visited all the large retailers and was met with overinflated prices, cheap materials, and scammy salesmen. In one particular chain store (*cough* Ortho Mattress *cough*) I talked to an associate who told me if I bought a mattress from them right then and there without visiting any other store to compare, he would give me a steep discount. The prospect of entrusting my nightly sleep to a mattress of dubious quality sold to me by a salesman of even more dubious morals was worrying, to say the least. The people at Mattress Makers are not that. The very first thing I noticed when visiting their warehouse in Miramar was that the guy who helped me out was not pushy - at all - rather allowing the quality of the product to speak for itself. I'd done extensive research on mattress construction and industry practices after my traumatizing experiences at the big name stores, so I knew that I wanted a genuine latex mattress without gimmicks. And Mattress Makers provided just that. Every single person I interacted with showed utmost honesty, and most importantly, showed pride in their craft. I want to emphasize the second point: these aren't alienated salespeople selling some anonymous brand's cheap foam mattress at a perpetual 80% markdown. Mattress Makers designs, constructs, and sells their mattresses by themselves. As for the mattress itself, it's incredible and I crave it any time I go on a business trip or otherwise have to sleep in a bed other than my own. It feels substantial and premium, just the perfect combination of comfort and support. If you care about a good night's sleep, support Mattress Makers. You will pay more for latex instead of polyurethane, but the mattress will last you forever and provide way better sleep over its lifetime. read more

Had a great experience with Mattress Makers and recommend them to everyone looking for a new bed. Wife and I were in need of a new mattress so we popped in. We got the full sleeping analysis experience, history and honest recommendations. Their prices were fair, had a nice warranty and were able to deliver it to me within the week. We were sold. After the bed frame arrived with minor damages, Mattress Makers were able to discount me for the inconvenience. They also offered to replace entirely in which I declined. And they took my old mattress to dispose of! Lastly, they were very helpful with swapping out my wife's side with a harder style mattress for free. They also helped me pick out a pillow with my custom choices. We have been sleeping like babies and are so comfortable during the night. No more back pain either. I'm sorry I don't remember if it was Pablo or Pedro but he took great care of me and my daughter, who needed the new mattress.

My mattress is still under warranty (which was very clearly explained to me upon purchase) and when I called to discuss a potential upgrade, I received no call back. Seems like their customer service has gone down the drain. read more

Mattress maker has the best costumer service. If you are looking for a great beds. Go there. This company makes all nature material and very comfortable. Today it is impossible to find a old Fashion Mattress, because of all the federal regulations of what materials to use in our mattresses everything today in our mattresses are all man-made material not made to last when I found Mattress Maker. I realize this is the place for me because they make their mattresses all natural there is no man-made product in their mattresses today. That's a big plus so I also have purchased a California king hybrid latex mattress and it's very, very comfortable. I love it. The mattress is made from all natural products. The actual material is latex foam, which is a a natural material plus they cover the latex with a cover that comes from the wool of sheep, so the topper is also covered with natural fabric go try their matches out they're great and they said we bought a hybrid latex, Calif king and they also offer outstanding customer service the cost of the mattress is quite competitive read more

Great experience from beginning to end with our mattress purchase and delivery. Customer service and communication is fantastic. Great product selection with mattresses made with a variety of different materials, including latex, which is supposed to be more durable than memory foam. Our delivery was extremely quick for a made-to-order mattress. read more

I can't say enough good things about MattressMakers.com! I have had multiple neck surgeries and procedures on my back. My attic is a graveyard of expensive mattresses of every major brand., totaling well into the 10's of thousands of dollars. I saw a video of Pablo and Gabe on YouTube so I called and spoke with Gabe. I ended up buying a Cartmel hybrid which consists of two different layers of latex and a third spring layer as the base. It took me almost 20 years to find a mattress that works for me and this is it! I waited over seven months to post this review so that I could be certain of the results. This bed is perfect! No sagging, it's nice and cool. This has been one of the best purchases I've made in twenty years! Mark Mc Buzzard's Bay MA read more

I just bought my second bed from here! If you're looking for a nontoxic mattress option, this is such a great local spot! I had to ship the bed out of state this time and that was no problem. Shout out to Kevin who made the experience enjoyable and made us laugh along the way! Thanks Mattress Makers! read more

Kenny is a legend. My partner and I went in this morning to purchase a new mattress and the entire process from start to finish was incredible. We've been struggling with our bed in a box for about 10 months now -- waking up with hip and back pain and poor quality sleep from our cheap memory foam mattress. We decided to do it right this time and go to the pros (which we should have done from the beginning). We were blown away by the quality of these mattresses and the quality of service from Kenny. We were taken on a journey to find our perfect bed and the whole process felt seamless and super educational. We ended up learning about our comfort preferences and picked the most comfortable mattress we've laid on in a very long time. If you're not sure where to start when shopping for a mattress, come see these guys. Not only do they know what they're doing, they will work with you to find the perfect fit, instead of trying to get you in and out like the other big box stores. We never felt rushed and would recommend them 10/10 to anyone who is looking to upgrade their sleep setup. Great local spot, and even better beds. Thanks Kenny! read more

I suffer with reflux which makes sleeping difficult due to the pain. I ordered a Remedy Rizer adjustable bed accessory along with the Remedy II adjustable bed. As a person who loves to support local businesses, this place was a great find. I inherited a mattress with my new condo and was okay to wait to get a mattress until I got poked by a spring. They had multiple levels of mattresses that fit different people's budgets and the seem like much better quality that the chain stores. They are definitely more comfortable than the Tempurpedic that the ex insisted on. 3 days in on that stupid mattress and I had buyers remorse big time. This place gives you a year where they will change out the padding so you love what you buy. Check them out before going to the ripoff artists at Ashley's or something like that read more

Overdue for this review of my favorite mattress store. We bought the firm mattress and have been very happy with the mattress. Recently, we were wondering how often we should be turning it. Maria was on duty and happily showed us the proper turn method and spent time with us talking about our evaluation and satisfaction of our current mattress, pillows, and general sleep wellness. I highly recommend her if you are thinking about getting a mattress that is custom for you. Of course, we love supporting a local downtown La Mesa business also!!! bonus! Thank you Maria for always being willing to help with purchases and your passion for providing a safe sleeping option from a local company! read more

Highly recommend!!! Having a home office/guest room combo, we needed a mattress that would be slightly shorter than a twin to use as a daybed. I found Mattress Makers on a search and watched a couple of their videos on their website. We went to their warehouse (which is very cool), picked out the mattress we wanted, set an appointment for them to come out and measure the space and they delivered before the time they estimated. The mattress was very reasonable, super comfy and is made with healthy materials. These guys are professional, friendly and seriously know their product. Super satisfied with their service and quality! I went in with an unusual request thinking most likely I would walk away empty handed. Instead the sales associates Daniel and Gabe were understanding of my needs and went above and beyond to meet my request. By far the best experience I have ever had buying a mattress. Most other mattress stores make you feel overwhelmed by the options and pressured to buy without considering the customer, but Mattress Makers provided a tailored experience that put me at ease. They even thought of adding straps to the underside of my mattress topper-- something I definitely needed but would have never asked or thought of! And the cherry on top was having a custom pillow fit to my preference, filled conveniently in store. Definitely will be back in the future! Thanks for all your help read more

It's been 1 year since we bought our 1st mattress from Mattress Makers. Our showroom experience was warm and welcoming. We were able to try out many mattress styles and Pablo was patient, friendly and helpful and made our kids feel right at home. Thanks to Mattress Makers, I feel like I now go to bed in a 5 star resort every night. My king sized mattress was customized to be firm on my side and soft on my husband's side. The wool mattress protector adds such a nice touch. I feel lucky to sleep in my bed... full disclosure, it did take a few months to get adjusted to the mattress and now it's just perfect!! Pablo did warn us about this and he was right. We were so happy with our 1st mattress, we bought 2 additional mattresses for our kids (conveniently done over the phone since we knew what style we wanted). From the showroom experience to the delivery guys who were courteous and brought a thank you gift along with the mattresses, we've had an all around great customer experience. Highly recommend Mattress Makers to all my family and friends. read more

It has been three weeks and we still haven't received the mattress we PAID. It was a nice shopping experience and the staff at the store promised the mattresses would be delivered within two weeks. We have been anxiously waiting. I called when the two weeks mark passed and the staff explained they had too many orders... really? Then do not promise two weeks and we would get the mattress from somewhere else! Now it has been three weeks and there is still no phone call for delivery scheduling. For other furnitures, you get charged when the furniture is shipped. This store charge you onsite and keep delaying the shipment. Is this their business model? read more

Mattress Maker is fantastic. I'm really picky when it comes to pillows and the owner Gabriel helped design a pillow that I love. Thanks again Gabriel!! 5 Stars!! read more

Simply a great experience. Watched their very helpful YouTube videos on what to look for and do while looking for a mattress. Other major mattress companies do not do this and attempt to rush the sale. Our salesperson had us test a number of mattresses while using open ended questions to determine our sleeping habits and needs. We actually settled on a cheaper hybrid and not due to price, because it worked for us. Kind of like selecting a good wine. Got a very good deal too since it was the July 4th sale weekend. Went with a California King with an adjustable base. They threw in free delivery and two pillows and paid the sales tax. Our delivery came four weeks later. The delivery guys were friendly, knowledgeable, and arrived on time, So far, we are getting some of the best sleep we've had in years. Follow up after the sale also extremely impressive. Well done to all! read more

Updating a 5-Star review from 2019 with another 5-Star review! I bought a mattress from Mattress Makers four years ago, and it's been great - the most comfortable bed I've ever had! A little while ago, the mattress started angling out on one side, which I'd never seen before. I called them about it and sent a few pics so they could see what was happening. They came out, took a look at it, identified the problem with the coils, and said someone would be in touch. I talked with someone within a couple of days, and they said they'd seen this issue two - three other times with their older coil system, and that they'd replace the coil system with their new model coil system for no charge. The delivery team just left after dropping off what is essentially a new mattress. The delivery team was right on time, clean, and nice/professional, and called ahead to let me know they were coming. Just great! Other companies might have tried to avoid the whole thing by saying the mattress was out of warranty or blaming the customer, but these folks stepped up, owned the situation, and made it right really quickly!! And they were cool and friendly the whole way through! Oh, and, I'll say again, the most comfortable bed I've ever had! Once again, one of the best experiences I've ever had with any company! read more

I have never gone mattress shopping before and since it's such a large purchase, I felt VERY overwhelmed. Daniel was so patient and kind with me as I came in multiple days to test out mattresses and ask lots of questions. He explained all the materials used in their mattresses and even had samples of what's inside. He was also very helpful and professional with me when I asked if a mattress was good for "adult sleepovers" haha. I ended up choosing the Soledad medium soft in a Queen size. I'm having a hard time getting out of bed for work because my mattress feels like a DREAM. It's exactly what I wanted and more since the mattresses last so long. I am obsessed with it and I feel at peace with this purchase. It's not hard to feel at rest when I have such a great mattress thanks to Mattress Makers. Thank you! read more
